Chapter 1
Mumbai
Singhania House
Bani Singhania stretched lazily on her big, four-poster bed. It was seven o'clock in the morning and it seemed like the city had woken up. She could hear the Mumbai traffic sounds in the distance, the big house she lived in, made the outside world feel like a stranger sometimes, she could only hear faint sounds of the cars and the horns beeping, seems like the world has also waken up. It was time for her to wake up and make a move as well.
She grabbed a quick shower and walked into her room, wrapped with a towel, and hair wet and freshly washed with her favourite shampoo. The room expressed Bani very well, photos of her loved ones filled up the walls, though these loved ones were only her friends who she loved more then anything in the world. It will be highly unlikely to find a picture of her family on the wall. As far as Bani was concerned they did not exist, it was bad enough that she had to live with them. Seeing her so called family at a daily basis did not help matters, though then again she did not have a choice. The only person who she did not flinch at the sight of was her cute and adorable governess, Maria. She was appointed by late mother. She was one of the most loveliest person god could have made, so full of love, it made Bani even proud when she knew that all that love was for only her. Maria never had a family as she had dedicated her life looking after Bani and working for Singhania House.
Maria is a little, plump looking woman, in her late forties. She made sure Bani had her breakfast, her lunch and her dinner on time, she woke her up and looked after all her needs. Bani made it a ritual that whenever she was in Mumbai, she would go with Maria to the Sunday mass at the church. She did not really believe in god, but just seeing the smile on Maria's face made her Sunday more worthwhile. They only people that had any importance in her life was her governess and her wild friends, who always made sure Bani would loose herself in a world of fun and partying.
Bani's mother died of an illness when she was just a child, to be honest she does not even recall a moment that she spent with her, something that pained her very much. Just one memory of her mother could have made a huge difference, to remember her smile, her voice her touch, but nothing, she could remember nothing. She would sometimes look at old albums, and try moving her mind back into the past, but no luck. She wondered when she would learn to give up on this.
Bani lived with her father, his second wife and their daughter, she had a younger stepsister Pia. Whom Bani has never got along with. They tried to avoid each other, the only way not to get into an argument. It was very formal if they had to talk, on the dinning table: "could you pass me the water." When Bani was 18 years old, it had been a couple of years since her mother had passed away, she saw her father with a women in a restaurant, she had gone there with her friends to grab a milkshake, before they were going to go to the bowling alley to spend the day. She did not say anything, thought it might have been a work colleague. The same women was the invited home for dinner that very same day, and Bani was told to be on her best behaviour, and speak politely to the guest. She did as she was told to do. That time it was the last time she ever obeyed her father, after that day, whenever they met all hell could break loose and they would never have a civilised conversation. He had taken her to his study that evening when the women had left, just after she had her dessert. Bani was is a very good mood, as the chef had made Bani's favourite dessert for after dinner. Apple crumble with cream, only her mother used to make the best desserts ever. She missed that.
He made her sit down, and tried to explain to an 18-year-old child that he will be marrying another women. Bani stared at him in disbelief, slowly but eventually anger and hatred started building up form within her, she stood up and walked towards the door to leave. He came to stop her, and held her arm and stirred her towards the chair, she grabbed the vase, picked it up and throwed it into the glass cabinet, all the glass fell and scattered every where, water splashing all over the expensive carpet. Her father moved away in disbelief. What had he done?? She turned around and looked into his eyes with hers, which were wet with tears, pointed a finger at him whispered in a strong yet harsh voice,
"Don't you ever touch me! Don't you ever come near me, DON'T you DARE. Let me make one thing very clear to you Mr. Dixit. From this day on you have just lost your daughter, me and you don't share a father and daughter relationship. You go ahead and live with your new family."
Bani had heard the servants whispering that same morning about her father and his mistress, but she had ignored them, Maria had told her it was a lie, though she did look into her eyes when she said that, but Bani did not ask her anything else.
She opened the door and ran into her room, closing it and crying her eyes out, feeling very lonely and wishing she could go to her mother. Few weeks passed, she ignored her fathers attempts to pacify her, and talk to her, but no luck, she was as stubborn as they could get. He went ahead and married her. And then the day the woman was moving in, a girl, who looked like the same age as Bani, also came into the family. Her new stepsister, apparently her father had an illicit child with his mistress too. Well that just complicated things even more. Her father is still paying for the biggest mistake in his life something which he thinks could not have been avoided, he had his reasons. Mr.Dixit is the one and only reason why his eldest daughter, does not like to be associated with him, and had has changed her name from Bani Dixit to Bani Singhania. The day he decided to get married again, was the same day Bani changed her name, and has began to use her mothers maiden name. Her father was nothing, he married Bani's mother for wealth, and he got that, according to Bani now he was going to get his well-deserved hatred.
The cold wind blew her hair, she had changed into a pair of old jeans and a black hoody, put on her cap and placed her frameless glasses on. Her expression was hard and she hated remembering the past, but it only helped her to strengthen her goal, to create hell for the Dixits. Unfortunately she had to work with him at Singhania Hotels, and would see him everyday, but that was very professional interaction, but right now, she was going out to meet her buddies a day of fun and some shopping. Any thing to be Far Away from this house they call home, and she walked out of her room.
Behind the curtains stood Maria, looking just as disturbed, like she would every morning, seeing her baby, with that same expression she sees every new day in her eyes.Like always revenge could be seen in Bani's eyes. Maria only wonder when someone will come and make her want to fall in love with life all over again. Who ever that person is, she just hoped he would hurry up. Maria knew that Bani wasn't like any other girl, she had faced alot. Though today she will have a good time she thought to herself, her friends always make her feel great. For now let her enjoy each special moment.
