Hollywood's John!! [22 May 2007] |
John Abraham, the handsome hunk of bollywood, is all set to play the main lead in a mainstream Hollywood film ' Luna' opposite gorgeous Rachel Weisz of ' Constant Gardner', ' Constantine' and ' Mummy' fame. This is for the first time that an actor from India will play a culture-unspecific lead role opposite a big Hollywood actress in any film. The film will be directed by Deepa Mehta and is based on the real life experience of Julia Hill. As Deepa Mehta explains about John's role in the film, ' John, who plays an environmentalist in ' Luna', is not an Indian, nor an American in the film. His culture origins are not specified. Unlike in Water, in this film, he won't be a man in a dhoti playing the basuri. This makes him bollywood's first actor to crack the West without playing the NRI or some exotic creature. He has a full fledged role opposite Rachel.' The deal was finalized only a few days ago and was announced by the producers at the Cannes Film Festival. For this purpose Deepa had flown from Toronto to Cannes where John Abraham was also present to promote his upcoming film ' Goal.' According to sources, John was very excited about the new project and thanks Julia Hill for giving her approval. In fact, the film takes its inspiration from Julia Hill's real life experience and hence before the announcement of the film with John, her approval was needed. She likened the looks of John to Antonio Banderas and loved her meeting with John before consenting on his name. Rachel will be essaying the character inspired by real life story of Julia Hill in the film. The script for this Deepa Mehta film will be written by two time Oscar winner David Ward. John Abraham has a very good working chemistry with Deepa Mehta and had worked with her in Water. John's character was very much appreciated by the critics in that film. The film was even nominated for Oscars from Canada for the foreign language category. |
