As a 20-year-old Ekta aspired to be a journalist and even had plans to enrol herself for a mass communication course with a foreign university. However, fate had different plans for her and she took over the tube.

As a rookie reporter she had interviewed Jackie Shroff. "If things had worked out I would have been working in the newsroom today. Back then, I was extremely enthusiastic about the film circuit and wanted to become a film journalist," she says.

Getting to interview the who's who of the industry is the best part of a journalist's career. She says, "My first and last interview was with Jackie Shroff on a film set. It was good fun!" In fact, her urge to indulge in gossip led her to produce Kandy Floss — a purely gossip-based show with different segments including fun interviews, fashion police and events…

Mom Shobha Kapoor too believes that Ekta would have made a good journalist. "She was very keen on becoming a journalist and break stories. Post that one interview with Jackie she got so busy with the shows that she never went back to her former career choice."
