PART 10
Life is a journey and when your path crosses with someone who starts filling all the missing spaces that existed in your life.A person who understands your every unspoken word, who knows your ever action and reactions, who becomes the answer to all your unanswered question, you realise you have found your soulmate.
Arnav and Khushi reached Gupta Mansion both dripping wet from head to toe.Life seemed to have come a full circle for them.5 years back he has taken the most painstaking decision of his life, standing at the same threshold, pring his fingers away from Khushi,he has let go of the one person who was synonymous to life for him.But today he was here again with his head held high to claim what was rightfully his, befitting the love and honour, the love of his life deserved.
Though his other half's thoughts were running on an altogether different paradox.Last time they have been here, she has come so close to losing him.She shuddered to even think about going back to live that barren life again,to be a body without soul,a heart without its heartbeats.
She had gone through it once, only because it was inevitable but seeing him after so long, feeling him ,Khushi knew that the only way they both could be was by being together. There was no other way they could ever be.
The moment she has seen him a spell has been created shielding them away from everything that existed beyond those secured walls of their personal heaven. Not wanting to jeopard the beauty and serenity of their togetherness, she hasn't probed Arnav for anything.
His presence itself reasserted the palpable reason and for all the rights and wrongs, she knew one thing. Her Arnav never went back on his word and what he has spoken sometime back. His words still ringing aloud in her ears."Khushi Arnav Singh Raizada".Their names joined forever in perfect symmetery ,the manner its meant to be.
Her grip incessantly tightened on his arms making Arnav aware of the turmoil budding inside her.Pulling her close,he uplifted her chin and cupping her face asked.
"Do you trust me?".
Khushi nodded her head vigorously in affirmative as Arnav weaved their fingers together.A servant opened the door for them and Khushi stepped closer to Arnav as she took apprehensive steps inside. They were greeted by the smiling faces of Vandana and Rohan Gupta and taking notice of their completely drenched forms Khushi's mother rushed to their aid as she supplied warmly.
"You both should change first ".
"I am completely fine but Khushi should change. She has a norm of catching cold very fast".
"Arnav. There is no need to be so formal and Arjun's clothes will fit you perfectly.Ill just get them".
Arnav had no option but to comply as he looked at Khushi who stood in daze watching the exchange of words between Arnav and her mother.Arnav ushered her to go through his eyes but Khushi didn't even budge from her spot.Feeling her parents gaze directed at them and Arnav squeezed her hand speaking only for Khushi's ears.
"Im right here".
And before Khushi could open her mouth in protest,Arnav looked at her sternly, his gaze that clearly spelled "NO ARGUMENTS". Reluctantly Khushi made a dash towards her looking back at him while climbing up the stairs.
Showering at a record speed, not bothering to towel dry her hair,Khushi rushed downstairs and halted at her steps as she took in the sight that awaited her.Arnav was casually sitting in the living room, chatting with her father as her mother poured the tea in cup and handed it to him.
After what happened last time, she has long ago lost hopes of her parents being so warm towards Arnav. She had convinced herself of this fact as she had waited each day for her parents to agree to their alliance. She started at them stupefied unblinkingly when she broke into a round of sneezing making everyone aware of her presence.
Arnav was by her side in a fleeting second as he took her hand leading her to the sofa.Sitting besides her,he reprimanded "Had your fun getting wet.Look at yourself Now.Here drink this".Albiet affected by the presence of her parents,he handed his cup of tea to her as a wave of concern and worry for her health rushed through him.
Vandana and Rohan Gupta though watched the scene playing in front of their eyes as they took in Arnav's worried form over their daughter's slightest discomfort .The guilt gawking on how unfair they have been to them. The past couldn't be undone but they could certainly make sure that their present and future never see any sight of troubles.
"Arnav Khushi. You both must be hungry.Shall we have dinner first?".Vandana Gupta suggested lovingly.
"SIR MAM.If you don't mind can we talk first?.Khushi must be going sick in worry".Arnav asked, relieving Khushi from her anxiety being his topmost priority.
"It should be Maa and Dad now Arnav".Rohan Gupta said firmly yet his tone was filled with warmth.
His statement was met with silence from both Arnav and Khushi. One taken aback by the sudden announcement while the other who was completely oblivious to the whole happening.Finding her voice Khushi stood up making Arnav get up from his place too, their hands remaining entwined as she whispered "Dad" asking the many questions in one word.
Her father walked forth as he stood facing them upright. It wasn't easy but after all that has conspired ,Arnav and Khushi needed to hear his next words as he braced himself and started speaking.
"I presumed,I was a good judge of people but never been in my life I had been so gravely wrong.I couldn't see past my prejudices and priding myself for knowing what was best for you,I ended up taking the worst decision of my life. How could I not see what a gem Arnav is.How could I turn a blind eye to the love like yours".
His voice filled with self berating at his worst error of judgement while his wife stood next to him offering her support. He paused to take a deep breath and continued.
"I knew you will never go against my wishes but I failed to see the enormosity of love you both had in your hearts for each other. We thought with time you will retreat back into your old self but you only grew aloof and distanced, lost in a world of your own.Seeing you this way pained us as well because your happiness mattered the most Khushi".
Rohan Gupta's eyes glistened with unshed tears remembering the time his daughter has forgotten to smile as he sat down dejected and Vandana Gupta completed for her husband.
"That night when you talked to me Khushi,it was as if you have put a mirror in front of us.Its not easy to accept your mistakes perhaps that was the reason it took us so long to see the truth that was always there in front of our eyes.We kept hoping that you would come along one day when in reality you belonged to Arnav. We don't since when but you do.Your each action, each gesture, each decision is related to him one way or the other".
Giving them both to take in the details,Rohan Gupta finally spoke aloud the words,Arnav and Khushi has been waiting to hear.
"I called Arnav the same night. All it took was your name and he landed into a round of questions. It was only after that I assured him,he heaved a sigh of relief. And rest as you can see he is here to be with you forever. You children taught us the real meaning of love. You have our blessings and I know what I did was unforgivable but still-----".
Rohan Gupta didn't get to complete his words as Arnav hugged him and spoke, his voice full of conviction.
"Parents never ask for forgiveness. They are only meant to bestow blessings and since you have given us that.We don't need anything else Dad".
His one statement marked the acceptance of the new relations in his life washing away the painful traces of the past. His faith, his unbounded love, the respect he portrayed in her parents decision 5 years back coupled with his utmost honesty and humblity and the values his own parents has imbibed in him finally bore fruit as Arnav finally got his Khushi in the regard they wanted it to be.
What followed was a heartwarming reunion as the proud parents saw the glimpse of their old Khushi once again. The happy tears that cascaded down her beautiful eyes as she hugged her parents, her face glowing with pride in awe of the man who stood inches tall among them.
As Khushi's father informed them about solemnising the date of their marriage, both Arnav and Khushi spoke at the same time that they both wanted a simple wedding and not a lavish affair.Their eyes met as their thoughts flew back to the day they have talked about it.
Khushi has remarked that whenever they get married, she wanted it to be simple with family and close friends present.Arnav though had picked up on it stating that she was letting go of all her dreams that a girl has for her wedding only because he didn't have any family to do the needful meant from the groom's side.
His statement has earned him a slap from Khushi who has literally pounced on him for building his own reasons.Blatantly announcing that she was "HIS FAMILY" ordering him to get it into his thick head once and for all.
Kissing the same spot she has slapped, she has dared him to repeat such words again alongwith making him understand that she didn't wanted her parents to spend host of money on her wedding nomatter how affluent they were.
Marriage was the sacred thread that binded two souls for lifetime and beyond. An occasion she felt was meant to be shared with only loved ones and create the most beautiful memories, not to announce an feast for the nosy relatives.
Her comment got Arnav laughing his heart out as Khushi went on mimicking some of the trademark lines and seeing her Arnav Singh Raizada has fallen in love all over again. Not that was new for them as over the years these two halves of one whole has found themselves falling in love with each other countless times.
A bout of coughing laughter bought the love birds out of their trance as Khushi blushed a crimson shade of red and looked at different directions while Arnav remained completely unbaffled and only grinned in response.
Settling down for dinner Arnav stated that he had to be back in States soon as he took a sudden departure and the date of the wedding shall be as early as it can get.He was met by approving glances from Khushi's parents and as he expected Khushi was looking downcase with a sullen face.
Not wanting to tease her further,he added that he had applied for her visa before leaving and thus it wasn't a matter of concern. Her face lit up immediately and she was about to reward him with the special look that was only reserved for him when she caught the teasing glint in his eyes affirming that her visa and all formalities were already been taken care of by him.
Realising she was being played at,Khushi was about to retort when her parents erupted into heavy laughter seeing her state with Arnav joining them.Khushi kicked him hard under the table with her leg making Arnav gulp the whimper that left him as she acted all nonchalant.
One after the other a variety of mouthwatering dishes were escorted to the dining table and Khushi's mother stood up to serve everyone.Arnav actioned Khushi to not say anything but Khushi being Khushi ignored his plea as she said to her mother.
"Maa ,Arnav always have light meal in dinners".
"Khushi its okay.Ill eat.Stop fussing".Arnav spoke hurringly not wanting to waste the efforts that has been so lovingly put into preparing the meal.
"No its Not.You have trouble sleeping that way.You won't say it but you are worn out with the travelling and happenings of the day.Give me half an hour.Ill prepare something".
And announcing so Khushi rushed towards the kitchen with a spring in her step feeling happier than ever, leaving Arnav awestruck at how without saying, she could pick up everything related to him.Cooking his favourite Dal-Rice with a fondful smile playing on her lips, she reminisced about the days, she used to cook specially for him, learning new dishes as they both rejoiced eating together in their escapeyard.
She was mighty pleased with herself as she tasted the food she has prepared.Glad she hasn't lost the touch as she has stopped cooking after he left,Khushi made her way out carefully balancing the dishes on the tray.
Serving Arnav, she took his place besides him helping herself with the same. Her parents could only smile warmly as they came fore to this facet of their daughter for the first time.
That night as they witnessed their bickerings, the unwavering care and the unadulerated love that oozed from their eyes for each other,Vandana and Rohan Gupta found a heavy burden being lift from their shoulders.
Their heart finally at peace in the knowledge that they were able to lead their daughter towards her real happiness with a man whose alike they could never find.A man who was now as much a son to them now as their own children.Blessing the couple with all their heart, they joined the easy banter that flowed across the table as an amiable and warm ambience surrounded them all.
