His love for machines was there ever since he went to his mother's office and saw her working on a car's design. Intrigued, he used to go there every weekend just to see how the ideas were developed. Soon, he began to sit in an isolated corner in his house and started working on his own designs with the help of the books in their library.
When he announced that he had gotten into FITE as a Rank 2 student, his mother was shell-shocked. She knew the hard work required getting in and since he used to laze around whenever she was at home, she refused to believe him. After talking with the authorities, Renuka Sainyal was finally convinced her son had gotten in. Even then, she was adamant that she wouldn't let him go. Randhir, understanding that he couldn't convince his mother, ran away from home and being Rank 2, the authorities were more than happy to give him a scholarship. And now, here he was.
Randhir looked around the classroom, trying to spot any boy he could sit with. But just then, one of the professors came in and he sat in the first seat he found empty.
After greeting the professor, Randhir took his seat and finally noticed who he was sitting next to.
The first thing that caught his eyes was the blue streak in her hair. He scanned her from her feet to her head. She was clicking her heels and humming a soft tune. Dressed in a green kurti and blue leggings, she looked very innocent. But that blue streak wasn't letting him believe that.
Due to the noise cause by her heels, Randhir was unable to concentrate on the lecture. At least, that's what he told himself. As the professor left the classroom, Randhir too got up to go to the library as it was free time.
Just as he stood up, someone pulled him back down and it didn't take him too long to realize that it was the blue-streaked girl.
"So girls," she began, "it's not very often that we get sexy meat is it? It's good to know this college hasn't run out of testosterone. But what is a boy doing here? Aren't you all supposed to be sitting in your office and taking care of the family business? Your hands should be filled with money, not grease."
"Stop being so sexist girl. My mother is none other than Renuka Sainyal. I have every right to do Mechanical Engineering. You don't have any right to tell me what to do and what not to do," Randhir told the girl and glared at her.
"Oh but I can new boy. I can because I'm the Rank 1 and I have the authority and support to tell you what to do. You can either choose to listen to it or ignore it. Since you're obviously listening and ignoring it, I would give you a year to last in this college and then you'll be off. Also, Renuka Sainyal is you MOM so she is a woman and she would always support another woman and since you are so NOT a girl and I sure hope not too, she will surely support me," the blue-haired girl told him.
"Listen you blue-haired girl, I..." Randhir began but she interrupted him, "Agarwal. Sanyukta Agarwal. Rank 1. And if you dare call me blue-haired girl, I will make your life a living hell and I'm not even kidding."
"Then you have to stop calling me new boy too Agarwal. I have a name. Randhir Singh Shekawat. Friends and enemies, both call me Randhir. Basically everyone who knows me calls me Randhir so don't you dare shorten it or give a nickname," Randhir told her.
"Whatever Randhir Singh Shekawat," she said, emphasizing at his name.
Happy that his interaction with that egoistic girl was over, Randhir went to canteen and finally found two guys there. They became quick friends and soon found out that they had almost the same classes.
As they went to their next class, there were only three seats which were empty seeing that they had come in late due to not being able to find the class.
The two guys rushed to take their seats in the back of the class, leaving the seat next to Sanyukta the only one free. Left with no choice, Randhir once again took a seat next to Sanyukta.
She leaned in and whispered in his ear, "Addicted to me aren't you?"
"Oh just shut up Agarwal," he said and tried to concentrate on the lecture.
After two more Sanyukta-free' lectures as he called them were done, he headed towards the hostel where he had left his bags. Collecting the keys to his room, he picked up his bag to find that he was with the same guys he met in the canteen.
Since Randhir had joined a day late, he did not know about anyone and received some new-found information.
He learned that though Sanyukta was a first year student, she had been regularly visiting the college earlier too and had formed a gang of her own. Though she was offered a scholarship to join the college early, she wanted to be with people her own age. Due to all the connections, she was considered to be a bully and hence, no one sat with her. In fact, people now admired Randhir for sitting with her and not being bullied. If only they knew.
Not able to sleep as it was a new place, Randhir went out for a walk to clear his head.
He heard the shuffling of footsteps in the corridor behind him and turned to see a girl running with some people following her. The light was very dim but the blue in her hair shimmered under it. Suddenly, the blue disappeared and the others were left searching for her.
He suddenly felt someone's hands creeping up his chest. The person turned him and covered his mouth with her palm.
She engulfed him in a tight hug and told him to follow. Confused, Randhir just hugged her back and they stayed that way in the passionate hug for around ten minutes.
Sanyukta suddenly removed her hands and stepped behind with a smile on her face.
"Why did you just hug me Agarwal?" Randhir asked her with a startled face, his expressions making Sanyukta laugh.
"Don't look so alarmed. I haven't developed feelings for you out of the blue. I needed to hide and I found your body a pretty useful place to hide so I hugged you. Of course, no one would suspect that The Sanyukta Agarwal' will hug anyone so I knew I was safe." Sanyukta told him.
Randhir quickly pulled her into a tight hug and held her there for a few minutes.
When Sanyukta gave him a questioning look, he shrugged and said, "What? I thought someone was coming. You did say no one would suspect us so I just went ahead and hugged. Sorry if I was invading your privacy." Sarcasm was dripping from his voice and the smirk did nothing to hide it.
Sanyukta glared at him and strode off while Randhir sat down on a bench nearby.
Good? Bad?
