
Mahavir Jayanti is celebrated on the13th day of the Chaitra month every year by the Jain community to pay tribute to the birth of the 24th Jain Tirthankar, Lord Mahavira!
Mahavira was born in Kundagrama in Vaisali and is known to have spread the message of peace and non-violence among all beings. He very much believed in a particular set of beliefs that are the main principles of Jainism.

Not keeping things that do not belong to you [ A s t e y a ]
Chastity - Avoiding sensual pleasure [ B r a m c h a r y a ]
Non-Attachment [ A p a r i g r a h a ]Another important belief he promoted was the idea of not accumlating bad deeds ( k a r m a s ) as they often become the main cause of human delusion and suffering which continues till one's death.

Various sectors of the Jain community, including the Digambars, Shwetambars, Sthanak, Vaasis, and Tera Panthis celebrate the event together.
Celebrations often include elephants, horse carts, camel carts, and a tableau on the life of Lord Mahavira.
This year, marks the 2, 612th birth anniversary of Mahivra who was born in the 599th BC.
