"Stop it! What are you doing!", she yelled, as she saw him throwing her stuff out of cupboard on to the floor.
"Cleaning my room", he said calmly continuing his work.
She ran towards him and pushed him away but he was too strong for her as he continued to pull out her clothes out of the cupboard. They both froze as he noticed the piece of cloth in his hand. Sanyukta snatched the bra from his hand as he gave her an embarrassed look.
"Excuse me!", she said, pointing her index finger at him, "Let me remind you that you are staying at MY house and this is MY room. Get the hell outta this room", she screamed.
"Ms Sanyukta Aggarwal. Let ME remind you that this is my BEST FRIEND's place. Not yours. Go to the guest room. I am staying here", he said, calmly lying on the bed, marking his territory.
She stood there clueless for a moment, trying to calm herself down but this guy was testing her patience.
He noticed her nose flare up in anger and muttered 'How cute' in his mind. He regretted saying that the next second as he was brutally attacked by this Now-Not-So-Cute lady with punches and kicks till he finally fell out of the bed as she victoriously stood there smirking at him.
That was enough. How dare you!, he muttered as he got up and pulled her by the arm.
"Behave like a girl first of all. If I say this is MY room then it IS my room. Got that!", he said, dragging her towards the door and shutting it on her face.
...
An hour later Sanyukta was in the guest room, arranging her things, her eyes boiling in rage. She sighed and walked towards the window. The city of skyscrapers looked mesmerizing at night, the myriad stars beaming at her, her eyes not blinking even for a moment. The view was so captivating that she couldn't help but admire the city of New York even after two years of being here. She could still remember the day she landed here, the 'over rated city', as most people stated. But tagging along with her brother, Ankit, was a horrendous mistake. Her brother, a jerk, who did nothing but sleep with a different girl each night, was a pain. It was fine with her till the time he didn't bring any girl to their apartment. It was even better because he was rarely at home but at his girlfriend's place who he changed by the minute. Everything was copacetic. Until. . .
Until He came.
Randhir Singh Shekhawat.
Ankit's supposed best friend.
She loathed him the minute he opened his mouth. Ankit had told her that his friend would be staying there for a couple of months for his research work. He was apparently well behaved and modest.
Yeah Right! She saw how well behaved he was! She consoled herself by saying at least she could share the rent with someone. Although her father sent her brother bundles of money every month he spent all of them in his parties or his girl friends and it was all on her to pay the rent. But how in the world was she supposed to stay here with such a man! She was almost murdering him in her head when there was a knock at the door.
...
"What are you doing here?", Sanyukta asked Randhir, who was calmly leaning towards the side, his arms crossed.
"If I have to live here with you, unfortunately, then I have to make sure that you don't cross my path", he answered.
Sanyukta curled her eye brows, clueless.
"Cooking and Cleaning. Your department. The Rent. I'll pay. It's not a girl's job anyway. Khush Ho Jao. Tumhaare paise bach gaye", he smirked as she widened her eyes at his audacity.
That was enough!
She angrily marched towards him, forcing him to take his steps backwards.
"Listen Mr Whatever your name is. Yes. It is really unfortunate that I have to stand you for the next 3 months. This is my House. Your best friend did not pay the rent. I did. Get that straight. Don't you ever try to boss around me. The rent will be divided equally amongst us. I absolutely don't want any favours from you", she paused to take a look at his bewildered face, "And I'll cook whenever I want and clean the mess that I create. Look out for your food yourself or else wait till I am in the mood. I hope I have made myself clear. Now if you may get aside, I need to go to the grocery store since there is nothing in the house that we can eat. And I am sure you cannot survive just on air, can you?", she completed.
He was astounded. It took him a moment to register what all she had said. He quietly moved out of her way and stared at her as she walked towards the living room and searched for the car keys. She rested her hands on her waist, unable to find them which didn't go unnoticed by Randhir.
"Should I drop you?", he offered.
"No Thanks. I'll take a cab", she responded with a scowl.
"Pay me that money", he said, taking his car keys from the table leaving her no choice but to follow him.
...
"So what do you do here?", he asked her, his eyes on the road ahead.
"MBA", she said, in a small voice devoid of any sort of warmth, turning to take a look at him as he nodded.
She was surprised by the fact that she actually accepted that he was good looking. Rather very good looking. But that doesn't change the fact that he is a jerk. Just like her brother.
"Just drop me over there", she said as she spotted the grocery store by the side. Randhir obeyed.
"I'll wait here. Just be quick", he said as she got off the car.
"No. You don't need to. I'll take a cab and..."
"I told you. I'll be waiting", he said, not looking at her.
She shrugged and was about to turn around when she remembered something. She took out her wallet and placed some dollars in front of him.
"Excuse me?", he asked, taking the notes in his hand and giving her a flabbergasted look.
"Just paying for the cab. As I said No favours from you! ", she declared and turned around, smirking.
For a couple of minutes he just kept staring at her walking towards the store, her pony tail swaying along with her. This was going to be fun! He thought, his lips curving into a smile.
