I was waiting for this scene to play out, and feel really glad about the way it did. 😳
In the kitchen carefully stirring her son's favorite soup ladling it into a bowl, Suraiyyah just like any mother busied herself concerned about her son's well-being.
She entered his room with the warm bowl of soup only to be surprised as Aliya raised a spoonful for Zain.
In that moment, the mother in Suraiyyah was hurt. There was someone already there to take care of her son. That someone she didn't like.
As Zain spotted her she looked down shamefaced, upset.
To Zain like always it had been his mother first, and even today, he picked her asking for what she had made. To me even if Shabana stood there, he would pick the soup made by her and not Aliya's. That is Zain.
Aliya merely nodded in submission letting Suraiyyah take her place.
Suraiyyah however is against Aliya and she had to add in a crisp tone. Banane se pehle ek baar puchh tou leti, Zain ko yeh Bhopali style chhezein pasand nahin hain.
This didn't sit well with Zain, as his concerned eyes looked at Aliya
She was hurt he could see..
and so he blinked at her his eyes comforting.
And she felt the weight lift off, as her eyes assured him with a soft smile :)
He smiled back, glad that she understood.
And he turned to his mother, enjoying the soup she had made for him so lovingly.
At the end of this scene I was left with no doubt that the day Suraiyyah sees Aliya as perfect for Zain. She would be as loving to her as she is to Zain. Like a Mother.
