Chapter One:
Zain was now in their room resting on his bed as Aliya was downstairs preparing a special healthy vegetable soup for Zain. Mixing up all the ingredients in a boiling pot she finished up and put it in a bowl and placed it on a tray. She took the tray and walked up the stairs, silently entering their room. She put the tray on the night table beside the bed and tapped Zain. "Zain. Wake up."
"Hmm" Zain said weakly.
"You should eat dinner."
"Huh. Oh yeah." He struggled to get up so Aliya placed her hand behind his back helping him sit up right. She fixed the sheets as Zain crossed his legs beneath them. Aliya took the tray from the bedside table and sat infront of Zain placing the tray on her lap. "Mamu ki bhanji. I can feed myself." Aliya didn't respond. She didn't really have the words to respond. She simply took the spoon and mixed around the soup. Taking a spoonful she blew it to cool down and brought it up to Zain's mouth.
"Open." Zain looked at her utterly confused. She didn't argue or say anything back. Just 'Open'. He opened up his mouth allowing the spoon to enter his mouth. The soup was warm and perfect. Tomato soup with all fresh vegetables. Zain closed his eyes and enjoyed the perfect taste of his dinner.
"Mmm." The groan slipped out of his mouth. It was so good that he couldn't resist. He then opened his eyes to Aliya slightly smirking as she looked down at the soup, swishing it around with the spoon. Her smile made him feel a bit better. She seemed to act like a dead robot lately. Walking around serving him but emotionless. This whole accident had hit her hard emotionally.
*1 hour later*
Aliya had now finished feeding Zain and cleaned up the kitchen. She went back into her room to see Zain once again fast asleep with his blankets everywhere but on top of him. She went over and fixed it once again. Before she could move away, Zain had caught onto her arm unknowingly in his sleep. She looked at him in shock. Holding her hand, her heart raced. She tried using her other hand to set her hand free but his grip was too tight. She gave up and sat on the floor beside the bed, still holding on to his hand. She looked up and Zain's face; there were scratches still all over his face from the accident. Her eyes began to tear up. She placed her head on the side of the bed and began to cry.
"I'm so sorry Zain. This is all my fault. If it weren't for me, you would still be healthy. Because of me you could of been dea-." She began to cry even more, sobbing into the blankets. All of a sudden she felt a hand on her shoulder.
"Aliya" The voice sounded exhausted but concerned. She picked her head up to see Zain staring right at her.
"Wo" she released her hand from his and cleaned her tears from her face. "I'm sorry, I woke you up." She stood right up and was about to walk away when Zains hand found her hand again.
"Aliya" She stopped. In fact in felt as though her heart almost stopped. She turned around slowly, still having tears run down her face. Zain pushed himself to sit right back up. "Are you okay?" She wanted to hide her feelings and say yes, but she felt too weak to lie.
"No." The room was silent with the breeze as the only sound. Zain's weak grip got a bit stronger.
"Sit." He gestured right in front of him.
"No I'm okay Zain. You should sleep." She tried to let her hand go but he didn't allow her.
"Are you really going to make me fight with you now? Just sit." Aliya agreed. She didn't want to fight with him when he was weak and tired. "Okay, now tell me what's happening. You've been acting so strange lately and crying at night. What's wrong?" Aliya took a deep breath in.
"I just. I - it's my fault that you got hurt Zain. If it weren't for me -" She looked down, not able to look eye to eye as she poured out her tears.
"Aliya. You know this is none of your fault. Stop blaming yourself."
"That's easy to say, but we both know it was my fault."
"Enough with blaming yourself Aliya. Stop thinking this was your fault. It was destiny and nothing else. You nor I could stop it." She looked back into his eyes. He picked up his hand and cleaned her tears. They stared into one another's eyes. Full of pain and emotion. Noticing Zain's hand on her face and one tangled with her hand, Aliya looked away.
"You should rest." Zain came back to reality.
"Uh - yeah." Untangling their hand from one another Aliya got up and helped Zain get back into his sleeping position. She put the sheets back on him and switched off the lights going back to her side of the bed. She laid down the wrong way staring up at the roof. There is something about him that she doesn't quite get yet.
