I will give 2 instances

When Jalal recovered from tiger attack MA asked her who did she pray for? Rukayya said Shehenshah not Jalal - even MA said in mind that is the reason you are going to let Jodha get closer to him

While Jodha replied to HB she did not pray for Shehenshah she prayed for a son, a brother, a husband - so Jalal as a person is more important to Jodha


another instance was when Jodha had asked Rukayya would she love Jalal if he was not Shehenshah (something like this - I later watched this on youtube and voice was missing for bits) and Rukayya could not answer her.

Since Rukayya is married to a Shehenshah and LOVES all the BEK and trappings and power that go with it - she never bothered to or learn to love the person

While for Jodha - she hated this Mugal Shehenshah - it is only when she started to see Jalal as a person and respect and admire his qualities that she changed her opinion about him and started to love him.

So Jodha loves Jalal while Rukayya does not want to lose Shehenshah

Jalal gets lot of love as Shehenshah but he CRAVES being loved for himself, being wanted for himself

The scene before Jalal is to marry Ben - he is miserable, lonely and hurt and HB tells him when you will have a woman by your side who will love you as her husband and with whom you will feel safe and can confide all your innermost thoughts you will be happy.
Jalal has found ALL that in Jodha

While Rukayya is still on wanting the power the audha that comes from being Shehenshah's wife. Like you pointed out she was not upset about missing his company she was angry about somebody mistaking Jodha as his Khas Begum!

I'd like to add two more incidents..one, when Bairam Khan's demise news came to Jalal..he was broken, devastated like hell..Ruqu was very much present there but instead of pacifying him, she chose to look into harem chaos..not even for once she thought of wiping her best friend's tears inspite of knowing what place BK holds in Jalal's life..In fact it was MA consoled him, gave the shoulder he needed to cry on and also cried with him (note, MA killed BK)..but MA was upset seeing Jalal broken..anyone with a heart would have been into tears seeing Jalal's state at that point.

Another incident was, when Jalal was talking to his awaam during Jodha fake preggy track..how he was upset still screaming on top of his voice that a Shehenshah is never childless, his riyaya is his child..Jalal was trying to control his emotions..but couldnt hide his pain to Jodha..she was feeling every bit of pain he was going through..there Jalal was talking, here Jodha was shedding tears..Ruqu was also present but she was all smiley seeing Jalal's confident speech...here, Ruqu missed the pain hidden in Jalal's heart...she only took Jalal and the speech at face value.

Ruqu-Jalal lack the emotional connect...as I said before, they r habituated to each other..thats it!

Ruqu BEK toh bangayi par Jalal ki biwi kabhi nahi banpayi, hence Jalal always considered himself a loner and yearned for love and affection.

Agar Ruqaiyya Jalal ko ek boond pyaar deti, Jalal uspe baarish lootata..par afsos, Ruqaiyya pyaar karna janti hi nahi! She had the best chance to get his love, but she was always engrossed into her audha, rudba, taqat aur hasiyat and these all come being BEK.

Ruq finds it easier to agree to everything Jalal says than facing his anger while correcting him or maybe because she is too similar to him; whereas Jodha always tell the truth, even if he becomes angry. Ruq did not dig in deeper to find out if Jalal actually has no heart or not, she did not try to understand him or understand that he simply keeps everything buried. She understands Jalal at surface value and that is enough for her.

I agree, Ruqaiya never challenged Jalal; she never brought anything new to the table that he didn't already have. Jalal is someone who craves new ideas, intellectual stimulation, a challenge but Ruqaiya was never any one of those. She allowed him to remain stagnant; she never forced him to grow or to look outside himself and now he has found someone else who has done all of this.

But then again how could Ruqaiya? She, herself, was always on the same plane as Jalal. I don't know whether to chalk this up as to them being incompatible or to the fact that they simply aren't soulmates.
