Atleast a black female was cast there. But in India we have a Punjabi woman playing a North East Indian icon...

Okay about the dark skin, but Hollywood still needs to wake the hell up. Why the heck won't they get a trans. actor to act in a trans. role? I love Jared, I do, but I don't understand this.
And don't even star with Bollywood, this industry has no sense, very little real talent, and still dreams of winning an oscar. Losers. 😆 They should star by hiring some talented actors first, and then think about anything else.

Just for views...if Two States was Two Countries. If it was a story about White man in love with an Indian girl. Now imagine the conversation:
White mom: Aren't you happy that you got a smart boy as your SIL?Indian mom: About 90% of Indians are smart.White mom: Pardon me...about 90% of Indians are also filthy and dark.Imagine the outrage.

Bri,
Lupita was cast for the role in 12 Years a Slave, because the character warranted a young, black female to play it!It would have been applause worthy, if a black female was cast instead of a white actress like Sandra Bullock in a mainstream / big-budget film like Gravity.Hollywood is just as racist as Bollywood, when it comes to casting 'unconventional' looking actors in mainstream / popular films and roles!
Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Whoopi Goldberg, Whitney Huston, Viola Davis, Gabrielle Union, Forest Whitaker, Will Smith, Bill Cosby, Eddie Murphy, Queen Latifah, Kerry Washington just a few popular black actors who have had mainstream success.
Cosby Show a popular sitcom of the eighties was about an all-black family. Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was another one. The original Django was a white man. Django Unchained made a black man the star. The Sister in Sister Act could easily have been a white showgirl. The rival team in Bring it on could easily have been white kids. Many of Denzel Washington's or Will Smith's roles could have been white people.
I won't deny racism is prevalent in Hollywood. Black celebrities have had to work much harder to make it. They often don't get the best roles. However, Hollywood also has made a conscientious effort to give voice to minorities. When it comes to beauty Hollywood has recognized black men and women and other races as beautiful.
Bollywood on the other hand does have poor representation of minorities and is still stuck on a fair is beautiful. At least 50% of India is dark skinned. There are several communities in India with skin almost as dark as Afro. Yet we rarely have the darker people in movies. Forget mainstream roles, even within supporting roles and background dancers - finding the dark skinned people is a bit more rare.

Some major Hollywood racial slips
Khan Noonien Singh is a white guy.
Goky from Dragonball Z is a white kid.
The worst. There are so few black representative and black oriented films that Tyler Perry has to torture us with his movies.
