He clutched her soft wrinkled hands. They were so warm. So alive. She was still his... he could feel it. Then why wasn't she telling him that herself?
He stole a glance at her face the way he used to when he had first laid eyes on her. Only now it was much too painful to stare at her for too long.

He leaned back into his chair and shut his eyes and he felt the crystal liquid escape him. He felt all reason and logic elude him. All he knew was she was leaving him and he could do nothing more.
He opened his eyes slightly as he heard the echo of her laugher imbue his head. He ran his hands through her hair and planted a kiss on her forehead. He slid his lips from her forehead to her lips and kissed them tenderly.
His tears cascaded from his face to hers. As he kissed her, he felt her warmth escape her. He could no longer feel her heart beating along his.
He let go of her and edged away from the hospital bed as he watched her in sheer agony.
He felt a type of grief he never thought was humanly possible as he realized that she was gone.
He slowly climbed into the bed with her and closed his eyes.
He imagined a time when both of them were young and newly in love. Her smile still the same as it is now.
