Bollywood Recap: Student of the Year

Welcome to St. Teresa's! Here we meet our leading trio - not through narration - but through song. How un-Bollywood like ...

Based on these intros, this is either: a) High School Musical - India edition

b) Toddler pageant show

c) Or something more sinister

Since those intros made no sense whatsoever, let me translate.

Meet Shanaya: pre-pubescent rich girl, spoilt, attention seeking

Her boyfriend is Rohit, aka Stereotypical Bad Boy (SBB). He fights with his dad

He's a playa playa

SBB is filthy rich and rules the school ... until one day this guy shows up

Meet Abhi: a "middle class" guy who got into the elite school on a scholarship

SBB does not care for the new dude

He already has the whole school charmed

And he eventually charms the pants off SBB

And thus starts the greatest bromance of all times " complete with macho hoodies

Sports, parties ... and, let's not forget, deeply sensitive bro-hugs

But, while SBB and Abhi hit it off, things don't look so bright for Shanaya

Her boyfriend (in typical bad boy manner) is all over the resident mean girl

Hey, hey, where have we seen this chick before? That's right! The cute lil girl in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

Good luck trying to watch that movie again

Determined to best the man-stealing hussy, Shanaya goes for a makeover ... which isn't quite successful

She burns up the dance floor

And even flirts with Abhi to make SBB jealous

Charming ... SBB gets worried, for a millisecond, but he trusts his lover bff Abhi

But then! Our genius director decides to insert a story into the fashion show

Abhi's beloved grandma becomes ill, and the trio camps out at the hospital

Shanaya supports Abhi as best as she can

Who wouldn't fall for that? Not Abhi ... he falls head over heels

And you guessed it " straight into a dream sequence. Set in snowy, cold mountains with a scantily clad heroine (woah, creative)

Even Shanaya starts feeling the fuzzies " cos hey, what girl can resist the dying grandma bit?

And they kiss! SBB catches them! (of course ...)

SBB severs his romance friendship with Abhi, and the two duke it out for the coveted Student of the Year trophy

Dun, dun, dun ... The competition involves exams, sports (where, for equality, girls and boys race together)

There's also a dance competition ..?

Oh, and let's not forget, a scavenger hunt " typical academic challenges

Abhi and SBB are neck-and-neck, and it's down to the two of them in the final race. In a moment of bro-love, Abhi decides to lose the race

Realizing Abhi's sacrifice, SBB decides to give up the trophy " instead of, you know, reconciling with his bff

As if this wasn't enough drama, some dude starts ranting about the unfairness of the entire competition (so the director actually knows how ridiculous it was?!)

Cut to: 10 years later

That's right. The boys hold a grudge for that frickin' long and reunite only to see their ill Dean (who everyone hates) ... okayy

Shanaya is blissfully (?) married to Abhi

SBB has apparently become a hobo. He confronts Abhi, and it looks like it's gonna be vicious ..

Time's up .. let's resolve a 10 year grudge in 30 seconds

Our besties hug it out, and all's well in trio land again

Maybe a little too well ... ;)
