Congratulations to the cast, crew and the avid viewers of Balika vadhu on completing 1500 episodes!!
Great work from the team who have taken up the initiative , which made this post in to the forum ! Thank you all for this extraordinary effort !
Balika Vadhu is a trend setting serial ! It has become a part of our lives ! This is a great moment for all of us !
We are emotionally attached to Anandi and other important characters of this serial ! All ages of people, irrespective of their social strata...all states...countries...continents...unimaginable ...the impact of the portrayal of the main character by young... beautiful girls ! We love her, adore her, appreciate her ,started imagining her as an integral part of our lives. Till now ... I think .. no other TV serial got such a huge fan following. Most of the credit should go to the actors who portrayed Aanadi's character so very well, giving a new meaning to a hapless child's life and her post- marriage metamorphosis, infusing dignity into that character, picking up the right issues for the good of the society, and imbibing the traditional sanskar...what not?...everything was put in place in creating a classic character. At one time I was unable to accept that it was a mere TV /BV serial's character... it was a part of me ... an important part...a good friend, a guide to many ill fated women...a social reformer. There is a lot to learn from that character! In our social circuit discussions... this serial was being considered as a subject for research in SOCIOLOGY... by many...including myself !
Why not ? This story consists of a woman's feelings, experiences and her tirade to win in adverse situations ... it assays the lives and limitations of their times of the Indian Women over a span of the last 60 or more years ! It narrates the plight and fight of an Indian woman from the olden times through the modern days.
All the female characters have a story to tell... and each of them is a case study in women empowerment ! !
If we review, Dadisa, the matriarch of old generation, herself was a crusader... who faced trauma and fought for justice in her own house, then went on to correct the social evils and at every stage asserted her independence and individuality for protecting her family ! Sumitra & Gehna of the next generation had their own problems to face, battles to fight to claim their day-to-day space in the house hold, even if it was with the regressive, tradition-bound old lady of the house... coming out triumphant at the end. But the real issues poisoning and strangulating the health of the society were (and are being ) taken up by present day youth, represented by the protagonist, Anandi. If a rustic girl's perspective of social equality was presented through that character ,--- a well educated professional's emotional insecurities were voiced through Gowri's character ---and a helpless woman's morality and her fight for her right to existence...Ganga , her tirade against domestic violence & cruelty is a lesson for such hapless women who are not rare to be seen even today!
Of course, we have the well groomed Nandus, Amols & Mannus to take us into the future with a ray of hope for coming across a just society!
As per me, this story of the Indian women in total...mainly of Anandi's is worth for a Nobel , Bookman or Pulitzer award. Yes...I am very much aware of the worth and value of these awards in the world literary circles ...but our own Balika vadhu is no less !
The child Anandi- Avika once while interviewing the then new Anandi, Praytusha on TV asked, whom the real Anandi loves most in the serial.? With a smile she said : Anandi loves everybody ...Dadisa...Ma ...Bapusa...Taisa...Tausa...everybody in the family... everyone in the village, but of course her Beend the most... she said with thoughtful eyes with a spark in them !
Anandi's life... her social reforms, Jaitser development, confronting the social evils, taboos...educating the villagers etc. including Dadisa ... everybody realized the real worth of Anandi' selfless social work and started appreciating... applauding wholeheartedly !
ANANDI is depicted as an ideal type.---an ideal bahu and an ideal patni. Her roots go deep. She is superior to any other character... compassionate ---with an ability to view any problem from others frame of reference...tender hearted...sympathetic towards others' feelings...having a huge love towards humanity ,forgiving others' misdeeds, chirpy, full of life ...spreading happiness in her village- in her house. She convinced others to change their attitude[whenever it was necessary] ----she tried her best to improve the lives of the villagers and of course the lives of her own family members time and again. She worked as an undercurrent to make things move fast towards women empowerment.
While the characters of Anandi and Shiv are well defined and modulated, Jagdish's character so far has been complex because of his inherent weaknesses as well as assertive audacity. Initially, the writer conceived a weak and susceptible character for Jagdish [ not anymore! ] so that he can mend it the way he wants to change the course of the storyline to take it further and farther !
Jagiya is a pampered kid-- then spoiled brat --arrogant male with high self esteem...but emotionally dependent...egocentric but with clouded intelligence. He is emotionally attached to Anandi..at all stages in all circumstances . Anandi is his weakness as well as his great strength too. That is the paradox in their relationship.
In the continuing story, by now, apparently the character of Jagdish has been defined.
We, the viewers never allowed the writer and director to overlook any important related social issue. They were expected to incorporate those issues and continue giving clear cut messages to the viewers! That has been the level of our involvement, which is not an easy task to any creative team !!
Some times I wonder whether we are giving too much importance to a fictitious character!?!-- but we are compelled to do so , because of the epic characterization by the writer and excellent portrayal of that character by the actresses!
The 6th and 7th Dec 2012. episodes are considered as one of the best sentimental and sensitive scenes of this serial !
A writer must be a visionary ..who can identify ...dig deep into a problem and who must be capable of solving it in a most articulate manner !The content , to visualize a character ...to bring that character to life ... how to tap her emotions ... in simple words a writer must be capable of creating and solving a problem efficiently !
A writer has to go through everything he wanted to say from finding the right words/scenes , giving shape to the ideas and linking them to feelings and thoughts ! He has to state something whole in the form of a character , an image seen in a flash out of a character's eyes ! Delightfully, we find the writers of BV to be all this and more!
SO many of us with admiration, at times with curiosity have seen the name of the writer PS and silently acclaimed his work !
One can dig a well ,a pond , a river, but it is impossible to dig an ocean with so many precious stones and with a world, full of life! Balika Vadhu is just like an ocean and the BV makers almost did the impossible!!!Popular TV show "Balika Vadhu", featuring Siddarth Shukla, Toral Rasputra and Shashank Vyas, completed a milestone run of 1,500 episodes.
The show, which went on air in July 2008, completed 1,500 episodes Thursday.
"It feels great to be a part of show which has always been a favourite among the viewers from the first day, and personally for me it's double celebration since I have completed 500 episodes with 'Balika Vadhu'," Siddarth, who plays the role of Shivraj Shekhar, said in a statement.
"Balika Vadhu" followed the story of a child bride, Anandi, which was then essayed by Avika Gor, who was married to Jagdish Singh. It showcased the hardships of a child bride and then went on to take a leap of five years after which Pratyusha Banerjee portrayed the character.
The show took a second leap of three years during which Jagdish, played by Shashank Vyas, had become a doctor and even Anandi had finished her studies. The leap followed Jagdish divorcing Anandi.
The story after that is of Anandi's re-marriage to Shivraj Shekhar, played by Siddharth. After the marriage, Toral Rasputra was introduced as the new Anandi and the actress says the show has changed her life.
"It's really a proud moment for me to be part of a show which has not only changed my life, but is also striving at bringing about a change in the society," Toral said.
"I would really like to congratulate the entire team of 'Balika Vadhu' on completing 1,500 episodes and here's wishing that it completes 1,500 more episodes," she added.
