Well, to me it seems that what Karan-Damini shared was child like love. That couldn't stand against anything.

Whereas his love with Nandani is more stronger and everlasting because even after marriage, Karan-Nandani couldn't forget about each other.

I wouldn't exactly call Tanya Karan's love, because that was more of a compromise on his part to move on. But when he did move on, Nandani came back into his life. But destiny had other plans for Nandani-Karan because Nandani went to jail.

Despite being 20 years with Tanya he couldn't forget about Nandani, even though Tanya tried hard to win his heart. But its always going to be only Nandani for him.

As for Damini, she fell in love with Gautam after being married to him, which was why she couldn't leave Gautam either.
