Again, as I mentioned in my post above. Vidya Balan also got the Best Debut after she had already been in a Bengali film. And there was a mini "controversy" over that. But as you can see, from the Debut nominations post-Vidya, the category is clearly meant to mean Best Debut in Bollywood. TV actors and South Film actors have all been nominated in the past. This is not the first time, nor will it be the last.

I never said people with prior experience shouldn't be nominated. I just said that if you point to South Actors, then we should also point to TV actors who are leads and have been popular in the public eye. Theatre background is different because they are not in a mass media platform.

There are previous examples of tv actors, just as there are previous examples of film actors. It's not new this year. Dhanush may have a lot of film experience, yes. And Sushant only three years, but again...if you compare it with previous nominations there is nothing so off about Dhanush's nomination. Nether is there anything off about Sushant's nomination. Since in the past 10 years, after the explosion of television, seasoned television stars have been nominated for Best Debut.

My point of contention is that you can't just complain about one but not the other.

****
Most of this post is just repetition, but since the reply was to me, I wanted to address it directly as well.

I sort of agree with both sides of the argument. Another example would be that Deepika Padukone got the best debut awards over Sonam however she had acted in a Kannada film before called Aishwarya.

Well, there is not much of a difference in the way Bollywood works and in the way all the other regional film industries work except the difference in the language. It's the film industry at the end of the day.Whereas, the television industry and the film industry are 2 different industries altogether.TV and films are completely different mediums. The way to go about a daily soap and a movie is very different. One can't really compare the 2 mediums as such since the methodology of both of them are way different from each other.

Having said that, I appreciate the fact that Dhanush had to learn a whole new language for Ranjhanaa and gave a brilliant performance in it.:)

by stating that TV and bollywood r quite similar, i meant that TV actors have a great reach towards the public just as a regular bolly actor has.. for example, every1 is aware of barun sobti and other top tv actors globally, but IF kolaveri di wouldnt happen would they know about Dhanush ? NO, no matter how similarly success ratio is measured in both bollywood and kollywood.
In that way Sushant gets an advantage given that he was the male lead of the topmost tv serial since say 3 years. ppl were aware and confident about his film career, he had an access to the ppl like u and me and many more who knew him since years whereas Dhanush got mocked even the day b4 Raanjhana had released, and guess what even after proving his caliber, his success is measured and rated as a virtue of being Rajnikanth's SIL. thats what is hurtful.

I myself never wanted him to win the best debut award, as the title falls short of his image and caliber, but then the recognition he got for his first hindi film, he deserved it.

and thanks a lot, its nice that u appreciate Dhanush's effort .. 😃

Once i used to hate dhanush like anything i used to think why did Rajni sir SIL is like this? but then i watched 3 in tamil(and i dont understand tamil) i coz i love the song kolaveri and he was so brilliant especially the last letter scene he was just outstanding i was so excited for Ranjhana Only for him.😳
Ok coming to the topic Yes its Unfair to nominate Dhanush with these guys i found it insulting to dhanush and i am not a fan of Sushant i dont like him.But i guess there is no soultion for this.If Dhanush Joins HW i guess he would be nominated for best debut award(if there is any).
BTW i loved The Acceptance sppech of Dhanush so humble and its incorrect to say that he was Rajnikanth's SIL so he got the award or getting movies on that note Abhishek would be winning the award too No matter you have Godfather in the industry or not its the Talent which lasts forever

I think it's unfair to them as artistes who have made their mark to be nominated as best debutante... I wanted Dhanush to get the award for best actor in Ranjhana... Farhan was good but the array of emotions and acting displayed by Dhanush in Ranjhana was superb... I think Filmfare wanted Farhan to have it and hence gave Dhanush the best debutante award...
