SRK, Vidya Balan also earned a nomination in the best debut category when they entered Bollywood, inspite of having TV experience. If we go by that logic, most actors in Bollywood today, have a theatre/TV background. What do we do then? Who do we nominate in the best debut category?
Again, as I mentioned in my post above. Vidya Balan also got the Best Debut after she had already been in a Bengali film. And there was a mini "controversy" over that. But as you can see, from the Debut nominations post-Vidya, the category is clearly meant to mean Best Debut in Bollywood. TV actors and South Film actors have all been nominated in the past. This is not the first time, nor will it be the last.
I never said people with prior experience shouldn't be nominated. I just said that if you point to South Actors, then we should also point to TV actors who are leads and have been popular in the public eye. Theatre background is different because they are not in a mass media platform.
There are previous examples of tv actors, just as there are previous examples of film actors. It's not new this year. Dhanush may have a lot of film experience, yes. And Sushant only three years, but again...if you compare it with previous nominations there is nothing so off about Dhanush's nomination. Nether is there anything off about Sushant's nomination. Since in the past 10 years, after the explosion of television, seasoned television stars have been nominated for Best Debut.
My point of contention is that you can't just complain about one but not the other.

Most of this post is just repetition, but since the reply was to me, I wanted to address it directly as well.
