This is just speculation, but I feel like there must have been a reason that the TRPs, which didn't seem that bad to us were unacceptable to SP. My guess, judging by the way they promoted the show, the prime-time slot and how much was spent on producing it, is that it was pitched as a huge TRP puller to the channel. In order to make back the money they had spent, the show probably had to be a runaway hit, which it sadly wasn't and instead of sustaining more losses on the hope that it will pick up, they decided to cut their losses and end it. I feel like there are shows for which lower numbers are more acceptable, especially those which have high TRPs on low budget. That's why the old saas-bahu shows never end... they are low-cost and high return. And as much as I adore Asmita and Pearl, if the PH and channel wanted this to get huge numbers right away, they should have cast at least one really well-known face to have an automatic viewership in their fanbase. I love how idealistic they were, and I loved the show, but it was never going to be a huge success TRP-wise.
As for other channels, as someone who has a penchant for masochism and constantly gets invested in shows that are doomed because of their progressiveness, I can tell you that all channels are the same. They are all desperate for TRPs because that is what determines endorsement deals. I had terrible experiences for this reason with both Afsar Bitiya and Punar Vivah on Zee. They both started out amazing but the moment there was a dip in TRPs the channel bore down on them which resulted in devastating character assassinations and loss of story. This was especially devastating with regards to PV since it once had the highest TRPs on the channel and also managed to be a sensitive, complex and progressive show. When it went down, they didn't even take that into consideration and give the PH a chance to recover and because of that ended up killing a really important character (though not one of the leads, thank god!) and showing a lot of uncharacteristic regressiveness. It was so clear with that show when the channel started interfering. EDIT: When that happened, we were all saying how much better SP was than Zee, because at least they cancelled poor performers and didn't interfere in their shows. 🤣
In some ways, it's better when a show ends early, but it doesn't take away the sting of losing so much you had hoped to see... ðŸ˜
