Oh, man you are so right! I forgot about this scene completely. Again, it was Abeer being slapped in the face with the truth of everything Meher has had to suffer from this divorce. Not only did it reflect badly on Meher in the eyes of "society" but also on his beloved Mummyji who was abandoned by her husband for absolutely no fault of her own, and that too, for another woman. And he can defend all he wants, but the act remains pretty meaningless unless he holds himself accountable for his role in the whole mess, aka always being around the house despite his questionable status as family member. It really does put a question mark on Meher's character, in the eyes of those who view the whole situation from outside, as much as I hate to say it, as someone who is neither here nor there.

I agree with the essence of what Abeer was trying to say- that unlike Shyam, he has always respected and loved his ex-wife and didn't move on in spite of getting a divorce legally

However, I do think he has been remiss in the same aspect as Shyam- he did bring their story out on national TV and even gave that interview wherein he gave his side of the story- which appeared to be painted with a rosy tint- that he was hopelessly in love with her and gave her whatever she asked for-love, marriage or divorce. This is actually true, but I think Meher came off looking like the bad guy from his interview. And he HAS taken some unwarranted liberties in the office to irritate her. using everyone's lack of knowledge about their relationship- the dart scene, for instance.

Yet I will still give him the benefit of doubt because he was the one who was immensely pained by the guys gossiping about Meher after she made the revelation public. All the acrimony he displayed was probably the result of coming face-to-face with her after such a long time. His old wounds were reopened and he lashed out in a fit of witless anger, perhaps. That's why after staying at Meher's house and personally interacting with her, and seeing her anguish, he's become more mellow and eager to appease her.

I have been thinking about this since yesterday and have come to the conclusion that I don't buy it. Does it really mean anything that he hasn't moved on after he friggin' divorced her? I say this because I would not have blamed him one bit if he had, and I don't think Meher would either. Shyam's biggest fault is that he didn't make a clean break and continues to treat his first family like crap - people do fall out of love and marry other people -- that's not the issue, but there are way better ways of handling it, especially when kids are involved. Does Abeer really have more of a claim to the family just because he didn't move on after he signed on the fateful dotted line!

In fact, if you think about it, his refusal to move on has been the foremost cause of pain and harm to Meher since they met again. This is a work of fiction and so we know that they are going to end up together. But I like the way they are showing how hard it is to get there, how many things can stand in the way and make true love irrelevant, strong as it may be. If Abeer had moved on, Meher might well have been able to as well. They would have had a cordial, professional relationship and old wounds would have healed eventually with proper closure, but because Abeer is most certainly NOT over it, he is pulling Meher back, deeper into this cesspool of feelings and the worst part is that he is acting like he has a right to do it. I would be far more sympathetic if he opened honest communication (which I fault Meher for not doing as well) but he has been using some pretty mean tricks to get his way: that's where I find it difficult to applaud a lot of his herogiri when it comes to Meher's family.

1. What do you think of the accident track?
The way I always see it is that shows that need to keep up the pace introduce accidents and kidnappings to hasten developments that could otherwise take months in real time. We have learned that Abeer and Meher are not over each other, Abeer uses humor and Meher indifferent silence as defense. Abeer needed to understand Meher better and get over his misinformed grudge - that happened... so what now? They need to make it almost work between the two before something comes and brings them back to square one -- that's how they extend the story. Plus, I am a sucker for emotional hospital scenes so no complaints!

2. I personally didn't like the Meher/Zeher joke- it was supposed to be in good humor but it seemed like one step forward and ten back. What did you think of it?

I kind of took it as part of the ongoing banter between Abeer and Bua. These two thoroughly enjoy their wordplay and it seems no joke is too crass between them! 😆

Brilliant post, as usual!

Thanks!
