Shakti Arora is experienced with all shades of acting. He is great with expressions on screen but at the same time very cool to interact. He is always ready to listen and one actor who is successful still hasn't forgotten his roots. In candid chat with Just Showbiz he shares his journey and what more he is looking for in life.
From Dil Mil Gaye to Pavitra Rishta,Ye hai Aashiqui you have played positive and negative shade. Which one is more challenging to you?
At the time of Dill Mil Gaye I was very nave. That was my first show and I wanted to learn everything. So this cameo role appeared good for me. Karan Singh Grover, male lead of the show was very friendly and I have learnt a lot from him. He is not only very good actor but at the same time he is good human being. Then I did Agle Janam and got famous. It was negative role which was challenging for me. That was completely opposite of me. Portraying a character which was completely different was difficult because I had to develop those qualities and make others believe that character. That was quite an achievement, I must say. But now I prefer doing positive roles in future.
You have hosted 2 shows Gyaan Guru and Science wit Brain Cafe. How was the experience?
Experience was fabulous with both shows. Firstly I was confused whether to act or not as I was shy. I never wanted to become an anchor. It was scary for me. The thought itself of doing anchoring by standing on stage in front of so many people was scary. In school I never took part in any competition. My mom always want me to be confident. She wanted me to become anchor so that I gain confidence. So finally when the offer came up for Gyaan guru, I wasn't involved in any projects rather not giving auditions even. It was boring sitting at home. So I gave audition. Later on I thought it's difficult to handle this show. I prayed God not to give me this show. Within 2 days I got a call that production and channel people selected me for role. I was tensed as I was introvert. They trained me and gradually I gained confidence. In initial episodes I was uncomfortable and shy but later on I was good at it. Brain Caf gave me immense happiness and career satisfaction because I got a chance to learn science. I never imagined I will teach science to kids. In school I was bad in science. My mom laughed because she is from science background. She is Pathologist. I enjoyed thoroughly. That show did well, that's why we did season-2.
You are Tarot Card Reader too. Can you please enlighten us about this form of science?
I was always spiritually inclined and interacted in these sciences but never got an opportunity to learn these things. Later in my life there was a phase where I wanted to know answers about why these things happening in my life and how do I come out of it. To cut down my curiosity I learnt Tarot Card Reading. Tarot is nothing but a direction tool. It gives you direction where you want to go. The cards you pick tell current situation and what is unknown to you. Also why it has happening and guide you to come out. It gives you probable outcome. It will tell you where you are heading. If warns you about where your decisions might take you.
Coming from film back ground as actor Chandra Shekhar is your grandfather and Mr. Ashok Shekar as your maternal uncle, do you always wanted to act?
Yes. Since childhood I have seen my grandfather hosting parties and heroes arriving to his place. I used to take autographs and love the aura of the energy they carry with themselves. I have seen how press people asks questions. I always wanted that lime light but somewhere I knew that it's not piece of cake. When I was in school I tried my hands on acting and I failed miserably. I remember director scolded me a lot. I decided acting is not my cup of tea. I stopped thinking about becoming an actor. Then I started preparing myself in other genres like once I wanted to open a travel hub. Later on I felt that I have to enter into acting to satisfy myself. I gave myself sometime to understand well. In that period I got little bit of work but I continued. Later when people appreciated me and my work, I started taking acting as my passion. I realized that only acting will take me forward. After that I purposely focused on acting and develop the passion for it. Now I like acting and enjoy doing it.
Tell us something about your journey till today as an actor
I have learnt a lot of things. I have done loads of shows that people are unaware. I have done lot of small roles. I really struggled in this industry. Wherever I am right now in this industry it's all because of my hard work. I have not taken any support from my grandfather or uncle. I have achieved by myself. It's been a good journey. That struggle makes you humble and down to earth. We realize where our roots are. We enjoy success. It is very valuable for me. I believe that by God's grace I will do more bigger things in my life.
What is your dream role?
I don't believe in dream role. If I have to mention then I love Ranbir's role in Rock Star. I would love to play that intense character. I want to do passionate love story. I love Shahid's role in Jab We Met. I feel as an actor even if character is very simple and it has no larger than life characterization but with my acting I am able to make that character special and get people appreciation. That will be my dream role.
