Poor Ashutosh Gowarikar was pilloried for just one thing, that he called the Rajput princess Jodha, and said that she was a Kachchwaha princess. They hated the idea of their girl actually falling in love with the Mughal emperor. It would have been all right with them if she had been a suffering sacrificial lamb!
Plus, there was not a squeak out of them when the colourised version of the 1960 classic, Mughal-e-Azam, was re-released, with a very substantial Durga Khote as Jodhabai, about 10 years ago (Jodhaa Akbar was released in early 2008, five years ago).. So it was clear that it was all a publicity stunt.
The Karni Sabha of Rajasthan took it upon themselves to seek a boycott of the film in that State, and the loss was only of the potential viewers there, for they lost out on seeing such a lovely film on the big screen. And it was perfectly clear during the TV confrontations that the Karni Sabha chap had never seen the film!
If it had not been for all this ruckus, that wonderful film, a labour of love by all concerned, would have made more money. It used to rile me no end to see the ever patient Ashutosh Gowarikar explain to the Karni Sabha peopleon TV that there was no intent to defame anyone.I could have told him to save his breath. Sweet reasonableness is not always the answer, especially not against motivated malice..
Incidentally, I got hold of his e-mail id thru the film critic Subhash Jha, and sent him a warm letter of praise and congratulations on Jodhaa Akbar, and he SMSed me and then called to tell me how delighted he was to have his film loved so much, Poor chap, that must have been balm to his bruised soul!
As for Ekta, she has put up a disclaimer comprehensive to cover any and all objections. The problem is that the names Akbar and Jodha are not protected by copyright! The best revenge the viewers can take on her is to make this show flop, like her Mahabharata.

Kools - I agree on utilization of Teju and Sachu...Sachu's character can be used in so many dimensions...the soham-sachu bit, sachu against purvi, sachu's attachment to savita...and teju can have such a twist by being totally against purvi because of ovi's fate...her standing up to archana's motherhood skills cuz of how she grew up without her mother..she should not be so totaly accepting and understanding of archu...show her more realistic,...show her questioning archu n her favoritism...show teju and sachu against soham like their dad...so much to show...but alas, just one of the bhajan mandali...
Shyamala aunty and kalapi - lovely posts on Akbar jodha...loved reading them...and I hope the historians sue EK for her distortion of facts...I remember the uproar and lawsuit during Gowariker's movie...EK is twisting history to suit her warped ideas...She should really quit TV.
Varsha di - first one is manav and second one is tommy, since he is not getting any these days! But soon to turn to no.1 as rain and purvi is going to be combined ;)
This show is beyond comedy also now. I find nothing to laugh at except KC...even the boied potato look makes me want to slap him...and naggy dear's dressing sense and constipated looks do not make it any better.
new show we should discuss and watch. To hell with PR.
