Dear Namita,

What do I say but thanks, thanks, and thanks again? I try my best every time, but when it gets past midnight it is not easy. Then I have this very time-consuming habit of polishing and fine-tuning the text; it comes from a lifetime of drafting political despatches and talking points for the PM and the External Affairs Minister, and earlier in my service, for my own Ambassador, and it is not easy to shake off! So I usually end up much later than Cinderella, and I am almost nodding. If you like my posts so much despite all of this, it is truly gratifying!

Yes, of course I have a soft corner for DK. Someone as effortlessly superior and so well bred is rare even in real life, and most definitely so in our TV soaps. So he is what one would call a pearl of great price. Even earlier in PR, I used to admire his invincible calm, and the way in which he used to dominate any group of which he was a part.

And yet, when he wanted to be assert himself, his voice would be as cutting as cold steel. I remember him telling Dharmesh, whose Bandra plot DK's firm had just then sold to recover the unpaid loan to Dharmesh, who is protesting strongly that DK cannot do this to him, "Main kucch bee kar sakta hoon". The voice was as low as ever, but it stung like a whiplash.

Naved Aslam, who plays DK, was seen in the successful Once upon a time in Mumbai (also an Ekta Kapoor prodction; it was really good), as Sultan Mirza (Ajay Devgan)'s right hand man, Patrick. Also in the art film director Ketan Mehta's superb thriller, Time Bomb (2005), which is being retelecast nowadays on Zee at 2230 hours on Sundays. He is an Indian intelligence agent there, and he is very good, as usual, always radiating intelligence and total control.

@red: you are spot on, my dear. I hope the silly girl has enough good sense to realise this!

Another fantastic write up dear Shyamala. I read it over and over again because I just love your style of writing, so classy.

Had some deadlines to meet at work so couldn't connect earlier but here I am. First I'd like to say a big thank you for appreciating my 'interview' post. Sorry if some of them thought it was the real thing but sometimes when I'm loaded with work I tend to do such things to ease the tension.

Well! I see you have the 'softie' for DK eh?

But I'm still mad at him for returning so late and still feel he could have given some indication to Manav over the phone from Australia.

Well, the best news is Arjun and Purvi are back together?

As for the Deshmucks, they can sort out their problems behind closed doors. They have washed enough of their dirty linen in public already. Savita spoiled the peace of the neighborhood the very first day she arrived in India. Purvi should change her last name to Kirloskar asap, the name Deshmukh spells trouble!

Dear Isha (though I really prefer the oh so cute bopop!),

Thanks a million again; you are so good for my morale!

No, I do not think Arjun Kirloskar is going to go slumming just to win over Purvi's parivaar, he would be totally out of place! I simply cannot imagine him and his 3 piece suits in a chawl bedroom. As for his love, as Janhvi would say, he would by now be feeling that he has no need to prove it to anyone, even to Purvi, having stood up (after a fashion) to a raging Manav and being slapped roundly on top of that.

Dear .Angel,

What can I say but thanks ever so much for your very kind words?

well, I do not suppose Manav would actually have hit DK; I cannot imagine anyone trying to even shout at him. But Manav was very ill-behaved in the whole scene. It only shows a total lack of breeding, all this shouting and screaming and shoving and slapping. Not only Savita, but even Archana is the same, though she was at the receiving end this time.

but man out of all that u had said this one in bold red had me rolling on the floor like a kidROFLROFL

and judging from Manav's bad behaviour towards Archana tonight I wouldn't put anything past him, so he could have.

Manav severs his friendship (and presumably his business ties as well) with DK. I suppose one should be grateful he does not slap DK as well.

Dear Laurie,

Thanks a million for the nice words; 'as usual' was especially reassuring!

No, I have not missed my calling, in fact this was my calling for all the 37+ years that I was a diplomat. The early years taught me the power of words well selected and of language polished to a fine sheen. Then again, I have always enjoyed playing with words. As you do, d'ailleurs.

I too am intrigued as to how she got to this park, unless Arjun SMSed her for an urgent meeting. I do not think DK would have got involved with convincing Purvi to meet Arjun, but I hope he will play the absolutely necessary mediatory role with Archana. It is not something Arjun should try on his own; he can't be expected to take any more thappads.

As for Purvi saying that she would not interfere in his life any more and would never call him again, that was just part of the plaintive appeal that preceded it, and I do not think it was serious at all. It is the sort of thing she said in so many ways during their last rain scene (one should really keep count of them. The D'Cold or Fluzet chaps must be raking in the profits with each new one!), and Arjun promptly shushed her and disregarded them totally.

I too do hope that the meeting tomorrow is at least warm and affectionate and mutually supportive, and Purvi does not make Arjun tear at his very wet hair with any more harangues. You never know with this girl; she has a strong sanctimonious streak in her. (Our) Archana's very convincing analyses and conclusions are most reassuring, and I am sure there will be no blow up of any kind.

On the balance, I think Janhvi's prediction is perhaps the most likely - Purvi will be warm and loving but will insist that Archana (and perhaps Manav as well) would have to give their blessings before she and Arjun can get married. That is ok. This is necessary for Purvi's peace of mind post marriage, as I had stressed in my triptych post, and I am sure DK can handle Archana.

Wonderful analysis as usual Shyamala. You may have missed your calling! 😉

I am certainly hoping beyond all hope that Purvi finally accepts Arjun like she did before. 😕
How does she get there if she wanted nothing more to do with him? Did DK get to her first? Did he extoll the praises of his knightly son and tell Princess Purvi of his gargantuan feat in the dragon's lair? 😆
She looked like she was walking up to him in acceptance - gosh I hope I read that body language right 😆
Purvi needs to confess her love for Arjun and accept this rishta soon. It's about time they face down their naysayers together and give Punni a great big hug before sending her to the dungeons! 😆
I also hope that the precap is not the end of Friday's show either 😆 That would ruin my entire weekend having to wait for ARVI bliss. 😆

Laurie,

Two points that got left out in my last one.

Firstly, for Punni, a dungeon would be too kind. She needs an oubliette. Do you know what that was? It was a very deep prison chamber, used by French rulers in the Middle Ages, that had no exit but an opening in the ceiling that led to a vertical tunnel. This ended in a trap door that opened into a room above.

Now this trap door was kept closed and covered by a square of carpet. When the prisoner was brought into the room above, he was made to stand on this square carpet. Then the trap door was suddenly opened by a lever. The prisoner fell feet first into the fetid prison cell below, and most likely his legs were broken in the fall. He was then oublie (forgotten) and left to die there (oublier in French means 'to forget', whence the name of this ghastly prison). It is awful to contemplate, but viciousness like Punni's probably justifies its use!

Secondly, the Arjun-Purvi meeting is likely to be near the beginning of the episode, not at the very end, as there is bound to be a lot of conversation.

My dear Archana,

A very big hug to a girl after my own heart (the hug emoticon just will not be adequate!). I loved the way in which you collated your facts, and then analysed them so rationally and logically before reaching any conclusions.

I am sure you are correct about the likely tone and the content of the meeting - with rain, soft music, a slow approach by Purvi (yes, I recognise the other, ramrod stiff posture and the official walk), no umbrella: such a long list of clues! Even Sherlock Holmes would have approved, not to speak of the ultra meticulous little Belgian, Hercule Poirot, with his insistence on 'order and method and the use of the 'little grey cells' with which I am sure you are abundantly provided!

I also loved your other, longer post: trailer trash is just right. The sad thing is that Manav too has degenerated to this level, and Archana as well, in that last horrible scene with Purvi.

As for Archana being as blind as a bat wrt Arjun, it is even less excusable than you think. As someone else pointed out on this thread, DK obviously backs his son and finds nothing to criticise in his behaviour in this matter. Archana should have realised that DK would never condone Arjun's indulging in any two timing of the kind of which she accuses Arjun. The DK factor alone should have been sufficient to make her pause and rethink before condemning Arjun so roundly. It shows the kind of foolish sanctimoniousness that is so very irritating. don't you agree?

Ok Shyamala...no longer have any doubts about the precap. I believe you are right...and here is why:

Watched it again..she is walking to him slowly (not briskly as if she has business which is how she walks when she does have something to talk to him about). Also she and all her emotions are totally open and plainly written on her face. Even in the previous rain scene she was prepared. She was waiting for him and even had her umbrella with her. She was there on business to convey what she had to.

However in the precap...she walks slowly...up to him...the romantic music in the background...all the pain and trauma of everything they went through during her separation just plain on her face. Getting drenched herself without a care.

In Arjun's confession scene she brought an umbrella then too. Because she was guarded and there for business (not spontaneously without a care). In her confession scene she didn't care that she was getting drenched.

Same thing again. Previous scene...umbrella...signifying planning and a purpose. Precap...no umbrella...no care for getting drenched...no purpose except to go to him.

Dear red123,

What a wonderful compliment! Thank you very much.

As for what you have asked me, I was a professional diplomat for 37 1/2 years in the Indian Foreign Service, the last 15 of which were as Ambassador in 5 different countries one after the other. Abhi located a rather neat page about me at http://www.flickr.com/photos/menik/2530924779/, and you might like to look it up when you have the time.

I have retired recently, and while I do continue with my professional interests in the National Security Advisory Board and other such bodies, I have started watching TV soaps too for the last 2 years plus. I stumbled upon this forum by chance a few months back, and got quite drawn into it.

It is a novel hobby for me, and I am enjoying doing something so different from what I have done all my life. Plus I am happy to have made some very nice young friends in the forum. Then today, you have turned up, with such a delightful comment. What more can I ask for?

Dear Jyoti,

That is a very plausible explanation. I very much hope that it is the correct one.

Shaymala,
that was funny...It atleast eases my stress for today.. i still have a way to go before tomorrow's episodes and then i have wait for the written update too :(...
anyway, i had edited my post later to add:
your summary got me thinking..maybe purvi walking towards a waiting arjun is symbolic of him telling her in the previous rain episode.."maine apna haath badaa liya..ab tumhari bari hain"..so, maybe that is her way of extending her hand..

am i hoping for too much???

what do u think?
