Dear Esha,

You are very welcome. These days, with all the general doom and gloom in PR, one needs all the laughs one can summon up.

The strange thing is that Ovi looks quite neat sometimes, as in those mini skirts and tops. The evening outfit yesterday seemed to have been specially selected to make her look her most unattractiv. As for Teju, who is generally perky and casual, yesterday her hair looked as if she had been dragged backwards thru a bush. I do not know whether the rule at such parties is that all concerned must look their worst!

Shyamala.

Dear Shyamala, your post and analysis is very good for the present PR track. I am hoping to see the light end of the tunnel that is a very long tunnel, and tired of it.

Part of me is hoping that Purvi does sacrifice her love for Arjun. I don't want Purvi with a guy that can't stand up for her! I want her with a strong supportive guy! She's a great girl she deserves the best and that has definately not been Arjun.

Pagalpinky, I don't want Purvi to "sacrifice" but I want her to roundly tell Arjun off and leave him to his fate and move on with her life. He can stew in the mess he made and try and get out of Ovi's clutches if he can. Purvi should not be involved in it at all. Maybe Purvi can move far, far away, resign, get a job at a rival company and show the Deshmucks the stuff she is really made of!! Wishful thinking as I realize the CVs probably have other plans in store.
PS: I like your profile name :)

No, Janhvi, it would not have helped even if Arjun had been there, and he had burst the bubble at once, as he would have. The mess for Purvi would have been exactly the same, and she would not even have had the consolation of seeing both her parents support her so warmly and unquestioningly.

Now she feels only a guilty twinge in her heart. If Arjun had revealed the truth so publicly and in such a blunt and unvarnished fashion, Purvi would have had to face the angry glares of so many pairs of eyes, and she would have shrivelled up and died inside.

No, Arjun could not have kissed her hurts and made them well again, neither if he had come clean at or immediately after at the engagement ceremony, nor if he had done it yesterday.

In fact nothing that Arjun could have done would have prevented this disaster from happening once he fell in love with Ovi's 'sister'; that too a sister without an ounce of self-interest or selfishness in her. It could have been foretold right then that, like a Greek tragedy, this, and precisely this, would come to pass. But, as I wrote in my response to Namita, if Purvi had told Manav about Punni's wickedness, at least yesterday's public humiliation could have been prevented.

Now I do not see how this love story is to be prevented from degenerating into the standard issue TV melodrama. It was perhaps too much to expect that such a fresh, appealing romance would actually last till the end.

We just have to accept this and hope that something can still be salvaged from this shipwreck. For starters, we shall see what Purvi does, as she will, to stop Arjun in his tracks, and how he reacts to that.

Shyamala

Shyamala, Purvi might have gotten a warm fuzzy feeling when her parents stood up for her but the warm fuzzy feeling came at what expense? I don't think she was in any frame of mind to appreciate her parents standing up for her, it in fact did the opposite, made her feel guilty and want to crawl into a hole. Purvi knows as Punni so rightly puts it that there is something between Arjun and her.
The matter will out anyway so why not Arjun shoulder the blame? If he had been present, he could have softened the inevitable blow by taking on the responsibility for the alleged affair, explained that Purvi did not know of Ovi's existence, that he was solely to blame, he was the one that hid the fact from Ovi and Purvi but that he unknowingly fell in love with the wrong sister.
I saw your response to Esha (or namita) that even if Arjun had revealed their love on the day of the engagement, Purvi would still have been called a gold digger. Tongues would have wagged but minimally if he had not gotten formally engaged to the wrong sister. Even if there was no Ovi ever in the picture, there probably would be the likes of Punni and Manju who would still call Purvi a gold digger merely because of the difference in class and status between Arjun and Purvi. Also, sourgrapes on the part of Punni.
It is a royal mess and the mess is not going to disappear, it is going to get murkier and uglier now if Arjun does decide to tell all. Purvi will be left feeling guilty that she didn't live up to her parents' high, unreal expectations/standards and will have more people pointing fingers at her. Before the engagement, it would have been "the rich AK fell in love with his poor efficient employee", now it is "the poor employee enticed her sister's fiance with her efficiency". I would rather have the former than the latter.
Arjun is the only one to blame for all the agony that Purvi is suffering and will suffer in the future. She really needs to give him a kick in the seat of his pants and send him on his merry way. He can strain, he can stretch to get out of Ovi's clutches but that is his business which he got into willingly by agreeing to marry her in the first place, no, not in Mumbai, but in Canada. You make your bed, you lay on it, just desserts for AK.

Wow! one would think that Arjun K was the only eligible bachelor in India.I frankly feel that Purvi should have found a temporary boyfriend (an old college mate or someone) who could have made that Arjun declare his love asap. He was so confident that Purvi was going nowhere, will be sitting there in the wings for him for eternity, that he just kept finding one excuse after another for 6 weeks to prolong the matter. Why, just why did he have to keep telling Purvi that he was going to tell Ovi, when he was not ready. I even remember Purvi telling him with tears ( I think it was in the darkroom where he had pulled her into) that she had no one to share her problems with but he didn't care. He could have just told her, that he'll wait for DK(where in the dickens is he?) to come and reveal everything to all. She'd atleast have had some hope. This "I'll tell Ovi, I'll tell her right today, I'll tell her at the party, I don't care what happens, I'll tell her at the dinner table' has become a big, big joke. I don't know when Purvi will be able to trust this man again.

Janhvi,

Maybe you are right and if Arjun had been there AND he had been able to explain things away so coherently and convincingly (both BIG question marks), the situation could have been salvaged to some extent.

I am not sure, however, for now that the Ovi-Arjun engagement has been going on for so long without any hint that anything was wrong, the reaction from Manav and Ovi would have been almost equally strong and negative, and that would have affected Archana's reaction as well. After all, Purvi hs been hiding all this from her for weeks now. And all these accusing looks and words would have made life very difficult for Purvi.

She could at least have told someone about Punni's wickedness and its likely future consequences, and thus headed off the ugly scene at the birthday party. I note that you have not touched on that at all, for obvious reasons! Instead, she goes about trying to make the Arjun-Ovi relationship even more cosy than it is, thus ensuring that the mess is even worse when it all comes out.

Janhvi, it is all very nice and simple to keep bashing Arjun and feeling morally uplifted about it, but how is any of this going to help? It is all so predictable, and you are beginning to sound like a public prosecutor in full flow against the accused (along with about 95% of the forum, I hasten to add), and all of you are so splendidly in sync in your fulminations that you would put the Westminster Abbey choir to shame. Where does any of this get you, except to prove that misery loves company?

As for me, I am fast losing interest in your precious Purvi, who had never been at a loss of words when fighting with AK but now cannot find two words to defend herself, and instead looks at Punni like a rabbit transfixed by the headlights and ready to be run over.

Also, I must add, in Arjun Kirloskar. I wrote that last cul de sac post only because someone sent me PMs and insisted I should, but what good will that do either? I have sore eyes from a bad bout of conjunctivitis and all that typing, and even this, of course, is doing it no good. I do not know why I (nd you, for that matter) sit around arguing about points in a lousy, third rate serial that, in the final analysis, do not matter a hoot, for things will go their own ugly, illogical and unappetising way in any case.

For starters, Monday will bring another shouting match between Archana and Manjusha. WHY does Archana have to beam all over her face as soon as she sees Manjusha at the door, and fall all over herself to welcome her? Anyone with an ounce of brains would have known at once why she had come, and braced herself for what was to follow. But not our Archana, and Purvi is fast becoming Archana Jr.

Ah Shyamala, you disarm me! Yes, why do we sit here and argue? 😆 Because it is fun?
Actually, I forgot to address the Punni bit, Purvi should have confided that bit of information, not to Manav as someone suggested but to Arjun. She intended to tell her mother (not sure if that would have done any good at all) but then the Savita/Ovi/Teju fiasco happened and Purvi probably thought she had time as Punni had told her she wouldn't tell as long as Purvi kept mum. Stupid to trust a snake but what can I say!
Cementing the relationship between Ovi and Arjun, I am against that too but Purvi is probably indulging in that nonsense because she has already made up her mind to give up on Arjun.
And please don't get me wrong, I loved Arjun Kirloskar all through except he has failed to deliver every single time ( I know the CVs have his hands tied, nevertheless, it is frustrating to watch a hero fall to such dismal depths of inertia day after day. I also know it is useless to keep writing any of this with the hopes that it will change the way the CVs script the story, they go on their merry path of reasonless idiocy, unfortunately)
Best thing that could have happened would have been if Punni had not disclosed the truth and Purvi could have given up on Arjun for whatever other reason. Arjun could have then either gone along with the world's plan of his marrying Ovi or he could have waited for his dad to set things right and then tried to re-woo Purvi.
Of course, the drama would not be as sordid then and there would have perhaps not been as many inflamed or conflicting opinions amongst the viewers😔.
As for the rabbit bit, a guilty conscience pricks the mind, and Purvi is suffering from a major bout of conscience. It has effectively tied her hands and silenced her tongue.
I love your writing by the way, and your patience and logic in dissecting the episodes, so I am glad you got those pms! 😉

Hi Shyamala
A great post and very well written.
I just hope that Purvi picks option 2. She has so much to lose if she picks option 1.
Arjun came into her life for only a couple of days. She had spend many months in agony with this man in her earlier days of his arrival in India. She has longed all her life to have a father in her life and now that she has a person like Manav, how can she sacrifice her parents over a man she knew only for a couple of days.

Dear Tulsey,

Thank you so much for the nice words.

You can relax, for I am quite sure that Purvi is right now going to choose option 2, but then that will not be the end of the story.

I am not sure she can whip Arjun into line. He may have had his own stupid reasons for waiting till now before he came clean, but he obviously never had any idea of giving up on Purvi. Now that he feels he can afford to enlighten Ovi about the facts of life, and DK will also materialise any day now to hold his beta's hand, that end is not going to be at all easy for Purvi to manage. The two of them will let the cat out of the bag very soon now, perhaps as soon as Arjun learns about what happened to Purvi at the party.

Then Purvi will be really in a fix. She will either

a) have to lie like a trooper and deny that she ever was in love with Arjun, which will hardly carry any conviction with Arjun insisting on the opposite. Everyone will think she has lost her nerve and is trying to clear herself by denying everything. Or

b) she will have to keep quiet, exactly as she did at the party.

Incidentally, as you can see from my post to Janhvi above, that rabbit in the headlights act got my goat, whatever Janhvi might say about a guilty conscience paralysing her tongue. She is not a Raja Harishchandra ki aulad, and she owed it to Archana to help her and do her bit to spike Punni's guns, even if it called for brazen lies.

In this option, she must let the storm break and rage all about her, and wait for Arjun and DK to prove to Manav, Archana, and the rest that she was never at fault and has not intentionally done Ovi any wrong.

This is probably what is going to happen, but still there will be a lot of bitterness lingering, and several of Purvi's relationships will be scarred permanently, and this the more if Ovi reacts violently.

The only smooth way out of this mess would be if Ovi decides that AK is too large a mouthful of Dead Sea fruit for even her to chew, and voluntarily gives him up. The chances of that happening seem to be as large as of a snowflake surviving in hell.

Shyamala
