Part 8

Preparation for the engagement was going on in full swing at both the houses. Arjun and Purvi both wanted to take a break from the environment, both were feeling guilty for lying to their parents. In order to relax himself he went to manav's place where the atmosphere seemed very gloomy and sad. On asking the reason for such state the servants replied that they had no Idea.

"Manav uncle is everything alright. I mean after hearing that I am here ovi would have rushed to the hall but here its the opposite. Is everything fine with ovi", Arjun asked out of concern for childhood friend. Manav knew that not giving reply will increase arjun's doubt so he covered up saying that due to the flight and all she is tired and sleeping.

"come on Arjun, ovi ko chodo even I am here you can at least talk to me. By the way good to hear that it's your engagement tomorrow", tej entered the hall and thought of diverting the topic.

"oh yeah, I mean so soon all this things are happening that I am just shocked", before he could say anything more tej interrupted "but its love marriage than why are you shocked"

"no I mean I love purvi but we are in our last year and I think immature enough to handle this responsibility", he said with a fake smile and excitement.

Alia and Neil were given the responsibility to shop for Arjun and Purvi's dresses as they knew their best friend's choice. Alia had asked Purvi to join them after all it was her engagement and even Neil had asked Arjun about it but both of them had declined the offer. Alia and neil knew about the reason for not coming but what can they do when their friends only had created the mess, they looked up and as if reading each other's thoughts sighed and said "impossible". Both started to laugh and in the spur of moment alia held neil's hands for support from falling due laughing.

"mmm, sorry woh'..main'..mujhe'." alia started to stutter while neil smiled at her making her go all red

"its ok, I think we should leave for the shop", neil said to erase the awkwardness that had prevailed between them

Purvi was sitting in her room and was lost in some deep thinking when archana and sulochana came to her room. They both were worried due to purvi's lack of excitement in her engagement. Archana cupped purvi's face and placed a kiss on her forehead and lovingly asked her "why are you looking so dull purvi, any problem bachcha", purvi was not able to meet her aai's eyes yet she looked up and could clearly see the happiness that reflected in her aaji's and aai's eyes for her engagement.

"no aai, I am very happy'..bbut after today I will be someone else's amanat (belonging), and then after some months I will have to leave you and aaji" purvi hugged both her mother and her grandmom.

"pagli, every girl has to go to her sasural one day but that doesn't mean that you break all your ties with your mayika. This house will always be your house you can come whenever you want", sulo explained it to her poti whose face was glowing with happiness on hearing those words.

Arjun and tej talked for a long time and when the time came for Arjun to leave ovi descended from the satirs, her face was tear stricken and eyes were ready to pop out anytime. Arjun rushed to his friend to ask for such state

"hey ovi what happened, were you crying", Arjun asked "no Arjun just missing aaji so felt like crying", ovi said

"oh you scared me. By the way I should leave now, tomorrow engagement so'..bye take care", he hugged ovi and tej and greeted Manav before leaving.

Neil and alia had shopped for their respective friends and were quite happy with the dresses. Neil had come to drop alia home as it was quite late. Alia wished him and started to move towards the house when neil's voice stopped her.

"alia actually I had bought these dress for you, just as friend ok", he handed the bag to alia who out of curiosity peeped in to see what was there and was shocked when she saw the dress

"it's the same dress that I wanted to buy, but it's too expensive neil", she handed the bag and ignored to accept the gift, but neil who was adamant to give it to her placed the bag in her hand, both of them started passing the bag to each other when suddenly they heard someone say

"passing the bag khel rahe ho kya. From when I m seeing that you two are fighting like childrens. Aloo take the gift and in return you also give him something ok. Hisaab barabar" purvi controlled her giggle when she saw an embarrassed alia n a blushing (lolz) neil. Alia took the bag finally from neil's hand n ran inside the house, while neil just stood there smiling to himself.

"she is gone, now even you can go. And close your mouth. I think you two should get engaged immediately hmfff", purvi laughingly said and made neil blush like a love sick puppy. before the teasing session could continue he drove off from the place.

Next morning, the sun shone brightly and it glorified the fact that today two destined lovers were to be bound in a sacred bond.

Purvi woke up with the chattering of the bird and the noise of the vehicles, but more than that the loud voices were coming from her own house, as if suddenly remembering what day it is she rose to her feet and quickly went to take a shower. She came out of her room and saw her aai, aaji, alia and few other people running from one place to another. Archana was shouting at the decorators, alia was trying to call someone; sulo was busy preparing some dishes in the kitchen, few mohalle wali aunties were wrapping some gifts, some uncle were arranging chairs in their chawls balcony. Purvi looked at everyone with tears in her eyes; she moved from the hall, to the kitchen, to the balcony and silently prayed to god to keep her family happy always. She actively participated in the arrangements, which made archu n sulo happy, even alia was happy to see her friend enthusiastically taking part in the decoration.

The atmosphere was no less at the Kirdloskar house. Neil and tej were busy in preparing the shagun thaal, Manav was discussing something with DK, ovi who was sad with the engagement put up a brave face and helped tej-neil. Arjun came down after hearing some noises, after seeing the atmosphere he realised that it was his engagement day. He greeted everyone present there and went to his room. He took ashna's picture in his hand and let himself flow in the past memories.

Flashback

"Arjun, who was that girl with you", Ashna asked her 13 year old son who was huffing and puffing due to the basketball game.

"mom, that was Clare my classmate", Arjun said and went in his room to freshen up. Ashna followed him upto his room and arranged his clothes for him to wear.

"whatever you say and do, but this clare should be limited to friendship only ok. I want a Hindustani bahu. Did you heard me Arjun", Ashna shouted, Arjun who was laughing at his mother's fast paced mind and said "typical Indian mom" and replied to Ashna "mom, I am 13 please stop this shadi tamasha. And I will marry the girl you like. Ok"

Arjun smiled as he remembered those days. He traced his mother's face and kissed the photo "I am fulfilling your promise mom. Archana auntie's eldest daughter was your choice, and I am marrying her only. I know you are watching me and I am glad that I could fulfil your wish", he kept the photo back in the drawer and turned back to find DK standing at the door with his arms opened. Arjun ran to his father and hugged him like a small child.

Purvi was getting ready in her room. She was happy with alia's choice of sari, archana helped her in draping the sari while alia helped her in curling the hairs. She was looking really beautiful in the sky blue colour sari with minimal makeup, her hairs kept loose with curls at the end, a simple golden earing and a bindi completed her look.

she saw archana looking up at her with admiration and love, and knew deep in her hearts that getting engaged to Arjun for her aai's sake is absolutely correct.

"hai mein marjawa purvi. had I been a boy than I would have have definitely married you meri jaan", alia flirted with purvi to make the atmosphere cheerful. Archana laughed at alia's antique to make them happy while Purvi just rolled her eyes at alia "tu kabhi nahin sudhregi".

Arjun was getting ready with neil's help who was time and again thinking if alia wore the dress or not. Arjun was looking really handsome in the black suit, with hairs gelled for a mature look.

He was adjusting his shirt buttons when again neil murmured to see alia in that dress "one more time dude and you are out of this room and no entry at the engagement, than you won't be able to see alia. So stop", Arjun said fully annoyed with his friend's romantic nature. Neil just made a childish face and held his ears asking for sorry.

The karanjkar ladies were waiting for DK and Arjun to come with pooja thaal in their hand. After sometime the cars came and DK and Arjun came out from one car, but the owner of the car shocked archana and sulochana who were feeling it difficult to control their emotions. Arjun came forward and Archana put the tilak on his forehead and fed him sweets. the guests made their way in the house, while archana stood there looking at the man standing in front of her.
