Oh thanks Varha...what a darling you are...
I will cook it tomorrow and let you know.
I love gujrati food....Many many moons ago, I used to work with a lady from Gujrat and she used to bring vegetarian Gujrati dishes for lunch. I used to take sandwitches which she ordered me to stop bringing and she would bring for me too.
She used to make Dhokla almost once every week just for me...I will take a dabba full home to enjoy...she was such a wonderful lady. I was single and she had 3 small kids, a hubby and inlaws and yet she used to feed me.....
I feel so bad that I never kept in touch with her after I left that work place.

Varsha, now that I know that you cook so well too, what is your recipe for Karhi. The Karhi that is made from yogurt (lassi) and besin. I know that Gujrati's make their authentic Karhi a whole lot different than Punjabi Karhi. 😃

Fantastic and very very useful topic .
I will do great research on it and will experiment a lot of these recipes .
When I have time I will put in recipes for either Kofta curry ( mutton or chicken ) and also Bihari Kabab ..people who don't eat beef can make it with chicke,...equally yummy ..
Also yakhni Pullao ... my grandma style ...
Oh yes , also Shami Kabab..I make them very good ..

I think you mean yakhni pullao ... some people call it Biryani as well. It is not spicy but it is a myghlai dish , very ver yfragrant rice ...we make it on Eid ..
What compliments it is Shami kabab, raita and salad .
I will post the recipe this weekend ...

My mom makes biryani from scratch. She calls it kache masale ki biryani. Its different from the usual biryani but veryyy yummmmyy! She boils the rice. Then, she adds some masalas nd ingredients in the chicken (uncooked) nd then she puts a layer of that nd then rice on top nd then puts it for dum.

I dont know the whole recipe so cant post it😳

Varsha its true gujju guys don't like to cook...however my family is different.
i am so proud to say that my grandfather was the one who taught me how to cook. when i was 13 both my parents were working till evening so during summer vacation my grandfather (dada) and i used to prepare meals. i have turned out to be an amazing cook, in case anyone is wondering 😉

my dad, dada, and even bro cook. Kala Tika to them😆
bro is a bit spoiled, his excuse for not cooking is why should i when there are 5 other family members who are better cooks than me....
