Is it me or do you guys feel that shows like this are sending out wrong messages. They seem very bias about working girls. Shows like this show "working girls" have no manners towards their family and are not perfect but girls like Archana (first of all I don't think they exist) are so good in every single way-rem Saloni from Saat Phere.

I don't think these shows should portray working girls as not caring about their family. Like what is the need to show Varsha in a bad light? I know plenty of working girls that also take care of their family and have really good personalities.

Tomorrow if I become sick last thing I would want is my daughter to drop out of school because education is not only about finding a good husband who makes alot of money..its about not dependign on anyone to support yourself

its really wrong to show such scarp in TV serials. I dont get what so bad in watching a movie in theater. Sulochana make such a big issue of it and never allow varsha to atleast make small decision of her own. then obviously anyone for that matter will rebel. She is not a small girl to whom sulochana gives a lolly pop and say this is good and rest of the things are bad.

May be this may happen in small towns where people are staying from years and everyone in the town know each other and parents may thing if their daughter are caught it will be shame. But city like mumbai i dont believe what they are showing in Serial is even 5% true to the mumbai life style.

I heard Mumbai does not sleep but in this serial looks like all are sleeping.

Even i agree that it wrong to show that working girls behave like that but i think in this case even Varsha is doing wrong things by listening to her friends saying even though she is wrong

I totally agree with u all and what they are showing is totally crap. I think going for movie is nothing wrong. I'm also working women and unmarried like Varsha and when my mom sees this crap it really scares me.

Well, i think instead of down right saying it's wrong, we should look at the situation. Varsha got leave to be with her aai who we can assume is heartbroken. Instead the boss finds her in a movie with friends. I think everything he said was in a fit of anger. As it is, he was trying his best to be understanding before. I think depending on his character, he may regret it later.
Varsha being rebellious is due to her aai being so protective of her children that sometimes she forgets they may feel suffocated. If Varsha is a working girl, her mentality would be different as well right? I think all the replies raised go points. 😊

I dont quite agree with you guys. While I agree that these soaps always exeggerate certain things, I dont think the core message is wrong. The issue is not working girls versus non-working girls. It is about the personalities of the two girls (Archana and Varsha) which really has nothing to do with whether they work or not. The fact that Archana had to give up her studies is constantly portrayed in the show as a sacrifice, and not as something that is required or encouraged, meaning it is NOT the ideal, but because it is a sacrifice the girl has made, the mother has a real soft corner for her. When someone does something out of the ordinary or unexpected, the person is obviously admired. Above all, it is Archana's personality, the fact that she never lies, that she cares about her parents feelings and that she is a well mannered girl is really what is highlighed in this show, which can also be the characteristics of a working girl. So when Varsha is shown in a bad light, it is not because of the fact that she is a working girl, but because she can succumb to peer pressure very easily and she lies to her parents. Sulochana doesnt have a problem with her watching movies, but watching movies at night. (which is a concern any mother would have for their daughters) So if Varsha ends up lieing to her mother just to be with her stupid friends who can respect her curfew and sacrifice their night show for her, then her choosing her friends over her mother is obviously wrong. Remember Vaishali is also a college going, soon to be working girl, and she is shown to be more considerate than Varsha. So I dont think its an issue of working versus non-working women, but how considerate you are towards your family and others.

yes but u see when archana came home with manav after he saved he from teh brother sulochana was sympathetic to her but tht nite when varsha came home with tht guy cuz he gave her a ride home they thru a hissy fit... this was wrong wihcih varsha did point out!
but what i mean is the soap sending out a wrong message is not about working and non working girls but that if a girl sacrafices for her family she is noted as a great person but if a girl is doing something to make herself independent like working and therefore not makign rotis at home she is nto considered special.
This is a wrong message that in order to be loved by elders (whether your inlaws or your own mother) the woman should be at home taking care of the family over working and bringing home the bread.

Yes it is important for the girl to be able to do housework but it is more improtant for a girl to be making money to make ends meet!
This is the mentality that India needs to get rid of that a woman should be at home to be considered great and a man should be working outside.
If I became sick and one of my kids had to stay home to take care of me I rather have my son stay home and take care of me cuz he can do any job later in life or go back to school later but for a woman its really difficult for her to be unedcuated especially in todays world!
