It seems more like a problem of generation gap. Varsha is not wrong, but Aai is only trying to be protective. Varsha should try to convince her mom that she will not do anything foolhardy or unsafe if her mom gives her permission for late night movies and stuff.

Archana leaving school at an early age to take care of her family and Varsha believing her mom is too overprotective is not out of the ordinary, this happens in real life. I don't think the show is sending out the wrong message at all.

even i agree.. like i feel really bad for varsha's character.. only because she's shown as being negative when she tries to break free just to watch movies.
and like i think archu's mom was being totally unrealistic when she dreamt of having a rich highly educated hubby for her daughter.

Well according to my mother in law she loves archana and my brother in law is single and has a good job making good money..if it was up to my mother in law she would love to have archana as a bahu and you know what reason she gives "archana ghar ka saaara zimadar changi tara lehti hain and saara ghar ka kaam bhi karti hain"..so according to my mother in law..as long as the girl looks good and she does all the housework nicely she wouldnt mind having her has a bahu...

Well, this is obviously wrong.
But if you think about it, showing that a girl is special when she leaves her studies to take care of her mom indicates that it is not expected of her and the norm is that girls should study and work. if they showed that a girl was special because she is bringing money to the household, that would reinforce the norm that a girls place is really at home. So the fact that Varsha, Vaishali and Manju are kinda not in the spotlight shows that studying and working is what girls should be doing normally. Isnt that a better message than showing that when a girl works, she is doing something out of the ordinary, or going against her normal role of taking care of the kitchen? I actually think this show is quite different, because in every other show, girls are shown as trophy wives who just dress up and stay home to look good, while their husbands work or take care of the business. This is one of the very few shows that actually emphasizes a girls education and income. I do realize that sometimes it seems to convey the message that its a ticket to a well educated husband, but I dont think thats overemphasized.

I do agree with you that Sulochana is kinda overdramatic and when she slapped Varsha for being with that guy, it was wrong. But honestly, I dont think she can be blamed completely because she doest have that bond of trust which she has with Archana. The situations in this serial is very close to what happens in my family with my siblings and I, so I can completely relate to them and thats one of the reasons I appreciate this show so much. Archana never broke her mother's trust, which is why even when that pimp came to their house, her mother supported her. she trusted Varsha as well, but Varsha was the one who broke her trust by lieing to go the movies. Since that event of that boy happened right after, it was more like a reaction to the previous event. It was very natural. Its true that Varsha is not always wrong and may want to live her life differently than her sister Archana. But then again, I was a little repulsive towards her character right from the start, because while her sister was taking care of the entire household, she never bothered to give her a hand. If she really thinks she is an adult and can take care of herself, why doesnt he make her own tiffin in the morning, or why doesnt she ever help out with other household chores? Just because she is working is not an excuse for turning a blind eye to her sister's pressures with household work. Its for these reasons that I am not completely sympathetic towards her character. If she was giving her 100% efforts to build a trusting relationship with her family, I would have agreed that Sulochana was wrong. But she seems to be easily influenced by her friends and the fact that she is taking advantage of her mother's trust by lieing about computer classes just doesnt make any sense to me. Her mother was wrong by slapping her and she accepted her mistake, then why the arrogance?

Shows like this show "working girls" have no manners towards their family and are not perfect but girls like Archana (first of all I don't think they exist) are so good in every single way-rem Saloni from Saat Phere.

I don't think these shows should portray working girls as not caring about their family. Like what is the need to show Varsha in a bad light? I know plenty of working girls that also take care of their family and have really good personalities.

Tomorrow if I become sick last thing I would want is my daughter to drop out of school because education is not only about finding a good husband who makes alot of money..its about not dependign on anyone to support yourself

what she, Sulochona, did is a sin! Savita said that right that she, Sulochona, did ruin her daughter's future by keeping her at home. But the irony is, they (the creators) always keep the JUST dialogues safely on a wretched

witch's tummy to vomit like curses! I call that thing, "Hosepipe (witches mouth) on karho, aur dho dalo (ahem!😉 Viewers ki dahi ho chukey dimag ko!)"

I totally agree with u all and what they are showing is totally crap. I think going for movie is nothing wrong. I'm also working women and unmarried like Varsha and when my mom sees this crap it really scares me.

imagine how a ghetto girl, who wants to make good, will feel when her mom/dad is watching this sort of craps and saying, "See! I'm not the only one!" (as I say myself while watching some mukka-laaths *@#%POW! @#%GAK!* on celebrity reality shows!😆😆😆)

reality shows/soaps have legalized some realities of our daily dozens, don't you think so?

See, even you don't like her. Do you love Manju! No way! Cos they were portrayed for being hated. Deliberately! Yes, deliberately! if we are asking for 'Vegetable-Peel-Pizza'😛, why should they bother to serve a pizza with sun-dried tomatos! If we prefer masochistic😭 why should they serve heavenly pleasure😊!

For the last time, people, Varsha is not negatively portrayed because she wants to go watch movies.
Remember Sulochana's dialogue "Mujhe tere picture dekhne sai koi aitraaz nahi. Bus 6-9 ka show nahi." So why is everyone hating on Sulochana for saying that? She is just looking out for her daughter, and again, not restricting her from watching movies, but from watching it after its dark. I think we should stop criminalizing her. About Archana dropping out of school, her mother never asked her to. She was ill, and Archana felt that she should stay home and take care of her mother. yes, we could probably blame Vinod for not giving the family a hand and sharing the responsibilities, but I dont think Sulochana is at fault.

Of course...It is sending out the wrong message...I mean aisa kahan hota hai!!!

The show is very very melodramatic...It promotes a silly image of women. Why did the leading lady have to go with her husband???

Someone like that in real life would have taken recourse to the judiciary and gotten a divorce...plain and simple.

And why did the leading lady's mum not let have her education? Were private exams that unheard of?
