Part 4

Mini stepped in nervously in Neil's house. It was a decent duplex bunglow with terrace garden and small lawn. Mini's eyes touched every nook and corner of the house trying to identify something...anything but after a while she let out a sigh in disappointment and gave up.

"You redecorated this house after the marriage. Hope, by spending time here you will start feeling familiar with everything." Neil said with his eyes shining with hope.

Mini had no heart to quash them so soon by telling that she neither found anything familiar nor she admired that simplistically done decor of the house. It seemed too basic to her. She is the one who prefers some pomp and show and all those artifacts and expensive cutlery. But as Neil said, if its really decorated by her then it again made her wonder about how drastically her life and preferences have changed.

"Dont stress yourself too much. You will get use to it in some time." Neil encouraged her when she was staring everything with those confused expressions.

"You must be tired. Why dont you take some rest. Its almost evening, till then I'll make something for you. You must be hungry as you didnt have anything for lunch." Neil said while opening the door of one room for her.

"Um...uh...is this supposed to be our...I mean is this our bedroom?" Mini asked nervously. She was embarrassed to ask this question, her cheeks turned pink at the idea of 'shared room' like between a couple.

The first genuine smile crept on Neil's face after that accident as he noticed her cheek's tint and understood her nervousness.

"Yes its our bedroom but for the time being it will only be your room. I have shifted my stuff to the guest room to give you space."

Mini looked up at Neil. She wanted to say she was so grateful for this gesture but she didnt know how to put it in words. Things were still awkward between them. She gave a half smile instead.

As Mini entered into the room a big photo framed in beautiful wooden frame, hung above the bed welcomed her warmly. The photo emitted warmth, coziness, comfort and love all at once. She was there in Neil's arms, both were sitting, lost in each others eyes, in a scenic backdrop of Manali. For few moments Mini couldnt take her eyes off from the picture. It was for the first time she could see or even feel that how much ever she has changed in these few years but she truly was happy with this man.

A call from her father Ashok broke her chain of thoughts. "Hello dad, mom. Have you guys reached home?" Mini inquired.

"Yes, we have reached beta. But tell me how are you? Are you safe? I hope that man is not troubling you otherwise I'll just..." Ashok almost threatened.

"Dad, I am ok and Neil is treating me well. I am not a kid anymore. I can take care of myself. You dont worry about me...ok?" Mini assured.

"What was the need to stay there? I am telling you again, I will make arrangements, come here from next flight. We will sort everything from Delhi." Ashok again tried to persuade her.

"Dad, we have talked about this. I dont want to discuss anything now. Now I am feeling tired, I want to take some rest. Bye." Mini answered swiftly and cut the call before her over protective father could again start his rant.

Mini came outside after sometime only to find Neil in the kitchen. Before she could ask he turned with a tray of refreshments and tea for her.

"Tadaa! your favorite chocolate pastries and french fries with cinnamon tea."

"Wow! smells delicious." Mini exclaimed and almost ran towards the kitchen. She took handful of fries and stuffed in her mouth like some kid. "Mmmm, its amazing." She muttered with her mouth busy in chewing. She then picked up the chocolate pastry and started licking the cream first then she aimed for the cherry on the top and lastly eat the base part relishing on each and every morsel.

Neil just kept looking at her lovingly. He wanted to drink in that moment. Since that fateful accident, this was the first time he was witnessing his Mini wearing her childlike smile without a care in this world.

"I cant tell you, how relieved I am that at least few things hasn't changed." Mini laughed hinting towards her love for french fries and chocolate pastries.

"Thanks for all this." Mini said as she took the last sip from her cup.

"No, thank you for staying." Neil replied.

Mini smiled in reply and Neil also did the same. After that both went silent as they didnt know how to take the conversation forward. There was this awkwardness settled in between them and none of them knew how to break this ice.

"So...would you like to take a look at the whole house?" Neil said not getting any better idea. He never imagined he would face such situation in front of his chatter box of a wife. She was always the one to talk and he was more of a listener.

"Yes, why not...lets go." Mini answered to kill the silence.

Neil showed her around the whole house and kept telling her stories behind each and every interior decoration idea like why they chose to paint the house in white, from where they brought curtains, who fought over the furniture etc. and Mini struggled all throughout to figure out the life she was sharing with Neil here and try to imagine her with him in this house as a couple. It was difficult but the way he spoke about them was enough to get an idea that they had been happily living in their small bubble of happiness however the thing which kept disturbing Mini was, when everything was fine then why she cut of her ties with her parents?

Yes. He loves his daughter but there is something which made Mini leave them. He has got some affair ? Or was he rude to bubbly ? Neil will not say until mini herself finds out I think.
