Sairat vs Dhadak scene aptly showed why regional cinema is more progressive than Hindi mainstream entertainment.

Sairat was a masterpiece. It touched upon themes of casteism and honour-killing without losing it's rustic charm, while having killer acting, direction, and music. And it did it all with two completely new actors. ❤️

Then Karan Johar took it up, completely Dharma-fied it, turned it into a glamourous love-story, and ended up with the mess that is Dhadak. And then people say Dhadak didn't work because Sairat was too popular. 😕

Dhadak earned some 70 or 100 crores..

my friend ( they don't watch anything other than mainstream Hindi movies) watched Dhadak and they were floored by story. I was like, did you even watch the original? Dhadak is a disgrace to sairat...

It was made pretty much only to bank on Sairat's success and launch Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khattar. Those two might even be good actors, but Dhadak has soured them for me now. 😔

It's all due to TRP. And the trend to keep shows on air as long as TRPs are good. I'm sure most serials do not have a definite story or defined characters to begin with and they mutilate it as per convenience. Also there's undue emphasis on glamour in most serials.

80s and 90s show were good cause they had no pressure from audience or TRP. Material on which it was based on, was quality material from celebrated writers of different languages, scholars and historians. Glamour and glitz was not an important factor unlike today. Story was the main hero. Those days are unfortunately gone.

If they are unable to create anything original, there's plenty of literature already existing in different languages. They just have to execute it well.

Mainstream Media is never going to be bold enough to challenge the norm, that's my conclusion. As long as as creativity is slave to popularism, it will churn out mediocre content ..

Glamour is the real culprit. People care about leads’ wardrobe and haldi function look, Mehandi look, falana look more than the story. Leads ko aschha look nahi diya. See the news about shows and you will understand the state of story of today’s shows. News readers also care about superficiality and Materialistic aspects than what’s actually being depicted on the screen.

Ekta brought it on. She ruined ITV. Komalika ka look is modern and hence she is progressive is what I have to accept. Doesn’t matter her absolute garbage thought process and how she is damaging other women. I swear when I read people say Ekta’s female leads were progressive, I want to pull my hair out.

Also, amount of articles regarding TV actors looks and clothing I get in my news feed is baffling. XYZ ke airport looks and Diwali party looks... And amount of people obsessing over it....

Earlier great directors like Girish Kasarvalli ji used to make literature based shows which were absolutely great . It was golden era of regional TV .

Now though all regional channels are acquired by Hindi GECs and Hindi shows are remade in regional languages. Even KZK comes in Kannada .

Only Mr. Sitaram is making sensible shows. His recent show isn't upto the mark though.

Remaking dubbing of stupid hindi shows is d worst part i remember watching naakuntanti based on 1 famous author's book forgt his name dt shw was also gud... used to watch kannada nd a bit few tamil shws as well mny yrs bk u cn say dt gd concept shows used to air nd nt much dragging... nw a days hindi shws quality hav gone dwn... regionl hs bn a bit bttr thou...
