I actually wanted to talk about this: what exactly does the saree symbolize for Babita?
Sarees, as far as I know, are a traditional Indian wear and require a certain amount of confidence to carry. It can be found in a variety of a designs and styles too.
Babita on the other hand, has been seen as wearing very simple salwar suits that don't have a lot of color, embroidery or designs. It's very monotone and in a way, devoid of life. It was very easy for her to blend into the background and not stand out in the crowd. It was another way for her to hide from the world and repress her true desires.
Even post divorce when she changed her wardrobe, there wasn't a lot going on. Muted colors, quite a bit of grey and brown, and very light embroidery.
It's post marriage that we're seeing her in deep bold colors. The suit, while it again covers her from top to toe, the sweeping gown still does its job of making her look quite elegant and regal.
