At dawn, Raavi woke up in Shiva’s arms. She instinctively checked his temperature and was relieved to know that his fever had gone down. It was 5:30 am in the morning and it was still dark outside. She knew she had to wake him up and send him home before the families woke up, but he was sleeping so peacefully. She decided to let him sleep a little longer. In the meantime, she got out of bed and freshened up. She went to the kitchen and prepared tea & breakfast and packed Shiva’s dabba. But when she went back to the room, he had already left.
When Shiva had stirred in the middle of the night, he had realized that Raavi was asleep on his chest holding his hand. He loved it and thought that if this was a dream, he would be fine if he never woke up from it. Pulling her closer in his arms, he went back to sleep with a smile. He was still asleep when he heard the door close. He opened his eyes and looked around for Raavi, but she wasn’t there. He checked the time, and it was almost 6 am. In an hour, Dhara and his mother would wake up and he wouldn’t be able to sneak back into the house, get ready, and leave for the store without being noticed. He got out of bed and went to the bathroom to freshen up. He waited for Raavi for some time before realizing that if he didn’t leave soon, there’d be a lot of trouble. At the balcony, he turned around to see if she was back, but she wasn’t so he climbed down the ladder and left in the darkness.
Raavi was upset realizing that Shiva left without saying anything again! She slammed his dabba on the side table and checked her phone. There was a message from Shiva!
“Chipkali, jaana padega! Baad mein baat karta hu!”
Raavi felt relieved seeing his message and replied, “Khaana kha lena! Agar fir se bimaar padd gaya na toh mein nahi rakhungi tera khayaal!”
Shiva had just reached his room when his phone buzzed. He read Raavi’s message and with a lot of hope he replied, “Tu aaegi khaana leke?”
Raavi was elated reading his reply, but she was afraid to have her heart broken again and replied, “Nahi!”
While Shiva was disheartened seeing her reply, Raavi’s heart took over and she messaged, “Saat baje dukaan pe…”
Elated to see Raavi’s text, Shiva checked his watch. It was 6:30 am. He quickly went to the bathroom and got ready. By the time he left, it was 6:50 am. He reached the shop exactly at 7 but Raavi wasn’t there yet. He opened the store and waited! After a few minutes, there was a knock on the back door of the store. He opened it and saw Raavi. She came inside the storage area and gave him the dabba and thermos with tea. Before he could say anything, she turned to go.
Shiva tucked his finger under her finger and said, “Thodi der ruk na!”
Surprised, Raavi looked into his eyes and his longing washed over her. Lost in the moment, she nodded and sat with him. He got two cups and poured tea into them. He also got an extra spoon for her, and they had breakfast together. For a while they ate Poha in silence, but Raavi couldn’t sit quietly for long.
“Tu ghar pe khaana kyun nahi khaata?” She blurted out.
Shiva stopped for a second and asked, “Tune chillar ko kyun bheja meri help karne ke liye?”
“Sawaal ke badle jawaab diya jaata hai!” Raavi said annoyed.
“Ha toh tu de na jawaab mere sawaal ka!” Shiva said coolly.
Irritated, Raavi said, “Sawaal pehle maine pucha tha!”
“Toh jawaab bhi pehle tujhe hi dena chahiye!” Shiva baited her.
Raavi gaped at him and angrily said, “Bukhaar utar gaya na tera? Gadheda… mujhe tujhse baat hi nahi karni!” and left.
Shiva saw her leave and smiled. He missed this fierce Raavi a lot! Seeing her in this jhagdaalu avatar again made his heart skip a beat and brightened his day! He finished the poha and tea and saw a packet of paracetamol in the bag she left behind. He smiled again and took the medicine and got ready for the day ahead.
When Raavi reached back home, she was miffed at Shiva, but she was also happy to see her Gunda getting back in his form. As soon as she entered the house, Prafulla came out of her room. Raavi was startled to see her. Prafulla inquired where she was coming from and Raavi got worried about getting caught. She stammered a bit and then said that she went for a morning walk. Prafulla believed her and asked her to prepare breakfast before leaving for college. Raavi nodded and went to get ready. By the time Raavi was done with breakfast and kitchen duty, it was close to 10 am. When she went to her room to grab her bag, she saw Prafulla sorting her wedding jewelry.
“Yeh kya kar rahe ho aap Maasi?” Raavi asked surprised.
“Aree tere sasuraal se mile hue gehne alag kar rahi hu!” Prafulla replied happily.
Raavi could tell where this conversation was heading but still, she asked, “Kyu?”
“Kyun matlab? Bechne ke liye! Waise bhi, yeh sab toh ab tere kaam ka hai nahi aur sone ka daam itana badh gaya hai ke yeh sab bech ke bohot paise milenge.” Prafulla said without any hesitation.
Raavi felt like she was just punched in the gut! She was so mad at Prafulla that she couldn’t form the words. Outraged, she walked to her and snatched her jewelry back. She put all of it back in the box and started to leave.
“Aree yeh kya kar rahi hai? Kaha leke ja rahi inn gehno ko? Bechne ja rahi hai toh chal mein bhi saath chalti hu!” Prafulla said getting up.
“Nahi. Inhe Shiva ke ghar wapis lautaane ja rahi hu!” Raavi said angrily.
Prafulla was perplexed hearing this and was about to rebuke Raavi, but Raavi interjected and said, “Kaki aur Dhara Di ne yeh gehne apni bahu ko diye the. Jab mein uss ghar ki bahu hi nahi hu toh inpe mera koi haq nahi. Issi liye inhe wapis dene ja rahi hu! Aur aap mere peeche nahi aaengi!” and before Prafulla could do or say anything, she grabbed her jewelry box and her bag and left.
Shiva was working when Hasmukh kaka received an urgent call. Dev and Gautam were at the counter when he came and told them that Suman just called and said that Dhara was sick, and she wanted all three of them to get home as soon as possible. Worried for Dhara, all three of them left quickly.
Raavi stood far away from Pandya Niwas contemplating if she should go through the front door and face Suman and Disha again or call Dhara to come out and get it. But then she decided against bothering Dhara because of her health and she didn’t want to see Suman or Disha. As a solution, she decided to sneak into the house, put the jewelry in Shiva’s wardrobe, sneak out. She knew that the kitchen work would be complete by now. Dhara would be resting in her room and Rishita would be at work. She went in the back of the house, made sure no one was watching, and entered the house through the back window; the same window that she had seen Shiva come through in the past. She checked the hall area where, just like she had anticipated, Suman sat with Disha facing the door. Raavi quietly and went into Shiva’s room. She put the jewelry box in the wardrobe and was about to leave when she heard a commotion in the hall. She peeked out and saw that Gautam, Dev, and Shiva were back and they looked worried.
Gautam, Dev, and Shiva came running and inquired about Dhara. Gautam was about to run upstairs to their room to see her when she came downstairs. Gautam and Dev went to her and asked if she was okay, and she assured them that everything was fine. But Shiva stood where he was and looked at Suman. He realized that she played him to make him face her and Disha. Gautam and Dev asked Suman why she lied about Dhara’s health.
Suman looked at Shiva and sarcastically said, “Aaiye! Itane dino baad darshan hue aapke! Itani der mein toh Sudama ko Krishna mil gaye the!”
Shiva’s anger and resentment started surfacing but to keep the peace in the house, he decided to leave.
“Shiva! Mein tujhse baat kar rahi hu!” Suman said angrily.
Still inside the room, Raavi could tell that Shiva was just a step away from exploding. Just then Disha stepped closer and held his hand.
“Shiva, sun toh le Ma kya kehna chahti hai!” Disha said.
Shiva felt disgusted by her touch and snatched his hand back.
“Tujhse kitani baar kaha hai ki mujhse dur reh? Itani si baat nahi ghusti tere bheje mein?” Shiva said as his anger took over.
“Ayee Shiva! Tameez se baat kar. Honewaali biwi hai yeh teri!” Suman rebuked Shiva.
Shiva was perplexed as he said, “Tameez? Tameez ki baat aap kar rahi hai?”
Suman was taken aback when she heard him call her “aap”. Shiva knew what she was thinking as he, too, was aware of the word “aap”. But he didn’t care if this hurt her because at this very moment, she didn’t feel like his Ma; she hadn’t felt like his Ma in a long time. A mother would try to understand her child; a mother would ask if her child was happy; a mother would listen to her child. But the woman in front of him didn’t care about him at all. All she cared about was replacing Raavi with some girl who literally came out of nowhere.
“Boliye! Aap ab mujhe tameez ka paatth padhaaengi? Tab kyun muh sil gaya tha aapka jab maine uss ladki se badtameezi ki thi, jo meri biwi thi?” he added.
In the room, Raavi was shocked hearing her mention. She loved this family since childhood and couldn’t see it falling apart because of her. She wanted to see them all together and happy forever even if she wasn’t a part of them.
Suman gave a nasty sarcastic laugh and said, “Wah bhai! Toh yeh saara naatak uss Markundi Gaay ki wajah se ho raha hai! Woh Maarkundi Gaay …”
“Raavi! Raavi naam hai uska!” Shiva said angrily shocking everyone.
Gautam, Dhara, and Dev saw Shiva’s anger getting out of control. Dhara signed Gautam to take Shiva away and Gautam nodded in agreement. Gautam and Dev went to Shiva, grabbed his arm, and started taking him away when Suman said, “Raavi! Woh Raavi jo teri izzat tak nahi karti, jo tujhe sare aam thappad maarti hai, tujhe kamzor kehti hai, jo tujhe chhod ke chali gayi! Uss Raavi ke liye tu iss masoom ladki ka dil todega?”
Shiva had enough now! Gautam and Dev could tell that he was about to explode and tried to calm him down, but Shiva released himself from their grip and said, “Raavi kyun karegi meri izzat? Maine izzat di hai kabhi usse? Kyun rahegi woh mere jaise jaahil insaan ke saath jisne bhare baazar mein uske character pe sawaal uthaaya? Aur usse beizzat karne ke baad khud hi usse divorce papers bheje? Aur itana sab hone ke baad bhi woh iss ghar mein wapis aayi! Dhara Bhabhi ka aur hum sab ka khayal rakha aur badle mein usse kya mila? Aapki zehrili baatein aur iss kalki aayi hui ladki ke haatho apmaan?” Shiva said out of breath.
As anger, guilt, and pain of losing Raavi took over him, he said, “Aur mein? Mein chup-chaap khada hoke tamasha dekhta raha. Har pal woh zaleel hoti gayi aur maine kuch bhi nahi kiya! Toh kyun nahi kahegi woh mujhe kamzor? Maine kabhi nahi lada uske liye aur issi liye aaj shaayad usse hamesha ke liye haar chuka hu mein!”
Raavi fell apart hearing him. She never stopped to think for a second that he could get hurt seeing her get humiliated. It killed her to realize that she never gave him a chance. Instead of fighting with him every step of the way, if she had just talked to him about their issues, things would have been different between them.
Suddenly Suman started clapping surprising everyone and said, “Wah! Bhaashan toh bohot accha jhaada tune! Par ek baat bata, agar woh Kaagdi ki bhaanji itani hi khaas thi toh rishta kyun toda tune uss se?” and before Shiva could reply, she said, “kyun ki woh tujhe kabhi samajh nahi paayi! Ek aurat hoke usse samjh nahi aaya ke jisse woh shaadi karna chahti hai woh uss se shaadi nahi karna chahta aur jisne uss se shaadi ki usse usne thukra diya!”
Inside the room, Raavi felt like she was slapped hearing such insults and fell on the floor.
Shiva exploded with anger hearing such disgusting words against Raavi but before he could say anything, Dev interjected and said, “Bas Ma!” shocking Suman.
“Ek aurat hoke aap kaise kisi ladki ke baare mein itani ghatiya baatein kar sakti ho? Kam se kam mera naam leke toh Raavi ka apmaan karne ki koi zaroorat nahi hai! Jo kuch bhi hamaari shaadi ke din hua usme sirf aur sirf meri galati thi. Raavi samajh nahi paayi kyunki humne uss se sach chupaaya tha. Agar mein usse bata deta ki mujhe Rishita se shaadi karni hai toh woh maan jaati! Aur aaj shaayad uski aur Shiva ki dono ki life theek hoti.”
Shiva looked at his brother with utmost gratitude and said, “Aur rahi baat Raavi se rishta todne ki toh woh maine iss liye nahi toda kyunki mere andar koi zeher bhara hai uske liye. Mein toh bas usse zabardasti ke iss rishte se azaad karna chahta tha. Woh toh samjhauta karke iss shaadi ko nibhaane ke liye taiyaar thi par mujhe samjhuate ki khairaat nahi chahiye thi!”
Raavi’s heart broke hearing him say this! She never knew what he was going through; that this divorce was just as hard for him as it was for her.
“Par aapne kya kiya?” Shiva continued looking at his mother, “mere toote hue rishte ka tamasha banaaya? Raavi ke upar itana zeher ugla ki woh saans tak theek se nahi le paayi? Aur aapki yeh masoom ladki …” Shiva turned to Disha and said, “Tujhe kitani baar maine kaha ki yeh nahi samajhti toh tu samjh, kitani baar kaha ke mujhse dur reh par tere dimaag mein itani si baat nahi jaati? Ek aakhari baar bol raha hu, kaan khol ke sun le aur acche se samjh le, mein tujhse kabhi bhi koi bhi rishta nahi jodne waala.”
With that, he stormed out of the house followed by Dev and Gautam. Disha also left as Dhara went back to her room. Suman, shocked and outraged, went to her room. Raavi sat on the floor curled up for a long time and then left through the same window she came in from.
