Raavi didn’t go to college right away. Instead, she went to the beach and sat down in a secluded area. Her mind was spiraling out of control. She hated herself! Why hadn’t she told Shiva that she wanted to spend the rest of her life with him? He would have brought the world to her feet if she had revealed her feelings. He would have gone to the ends of the earth for her if she had let him know how much he meant to her.
“Mujhe samjhaute ki khairaat nahi chahiye thi!” he had said breaking her heart. He wanted to be loved and accepted! She blamed herself for the silence between them. He was waiting for her to say something! He had asked, “Tujhe kya lagta hai? Mein kiske liye taiyaar hoke aaya?” on the day of the couple’s competition. He had tucked her hair away softly and looked deep into her eyes waiting for her answer. But her heart couldn’t trust that the man who questioned her character and divorced her so ruthlessly could change for her. She was so afraid to get her heart broken that even when a tiny glimmer of hope appeared, she quashed it to protect her heart. And that was her biggest mistake, she thought. Loving someone required courage and she had turned out to be a coward. And she loathed herself for not taking a leap of faith to protect her love and her relationship. Now, sitting alone on the beach, she relived their moments. Only this time, she saw what she hadn’t looked at before; the love and longing in his eyes for her. As heartbroken as she was, the events of the past two nights, however, healed the broken pieces. This time when a tiny ray of hope appeared in her heart, she let it fill every corner of her being. Shiva had come to her and Raavi was determined to never let him go!
Shiva was so angry that he needed to continue working to burn all the energy. Gautam and Dev were worried for him because they finally understood what their brother was going through and how much he was hurting. Gautam walked up to Shiva and made him stop shifting boxes.
“Gaumbi please mujhe akela chod do!” he said.
But Gautam didn’t listen. He took the box from him and put it on the floor. When Shiva angrily bent down to pick it up, Gautam forcefully stopped him and when Shiva tried to push him away, he hugged his baby brother tightly. Shiva struggled to free himself for some time but then gave in. He hugged Gautam back just as tightly. For the first time in his life, Gautam saw Shiva so broken and dejected! It broke his heart because there was nothing he could do to protect him. Dev, too, felt guilty for not understanding Shiva as he joined the hug. After a while they stepped back and sat down with Shiva. Shiva was looking down, not meeting their eyes. Gautam gently put his hand on Shiva’s head but just then a customer came, and they went back to work. A few minutes later, Shiva’s phone buzzed. And it was Raavi!
“Breakfast khatam karke medicine li?” She asked in the message.
As mad as he was, seeing her message comforted him as he replied, “Haan! Tu college pohoch gai?”
Raavi saw his reply and wanted to tell him that she wasn’t at college and that she heard everything, and that she wanted to come to him but instead she said, “Haan.”
Shiva saw the reply and was about to put the phone aside when it buzzed again. Raavi messaged, “Raat ko milte hai!?”
Shiva read the message and it filled every corner of his heart with joy as he replied, “Haan!”
Raavi read the reply and smiled and her smile brightened reading his next message, “Mujhe baingan khaana hai!”
“Theek hai!” she replied making him smile.
Feeling pleasant and light again, both Shiva and Raavi went about their day eagerly waiting for the night!
After college, Raavi got back home around dinner time. When she saw Prafulla, she could tell that she wanted to argue about the jewelry so to avoid the fight, she took out her phone and started scrolling through her messages and started walking towards her room without making any eye contact. Suddenly Prafulla stepped in front of her and snatched her phone away accidentally dialing Shiva and threw the phone on the couch.
Shiva was in the storage room at the store when his phone rang. He saw it was Raavi and picked it up but before he could say anything he heard, “Maasi!”
“Chup! Tu saabit kya karna chahti hai Raavi?” Prafulla yelled at her making Shiva’s blood boil.
“Maine kya kiya?” Raavi asked Prafulla.
“Aree wah! Ab badi bholi ban rahi hai? Jab se talaak leke wapis aayi hai tabse har pal ghar se gaayab. Aur jab ghar mein hoti hai toh muh chadhake ghumti hai aise jaise humpe koi ehsaan kar rahi ho!” Prafulla said angrily.
“Nahi! Mujhe toh naachna chahiye na. Party karni chahiye ke mera divorce ho gaya. Mera Rishta toot gaya.” Raavi replied sarcastically and went to get her phone, but Prafulla blocked her.
“Uss jaahil ke saath rishta tootne ki itani takleef kyun ho rahi hai tujhe?” Prafulla said outraged.
“Shiva! Shiva naam hai uska Maasi! Aur yeh woh hi jaahil hai jo aapke liye yeh …” Raavi pointed to the gold bracelets and continued, “… sone ke kade leke aaya tha apna hissa girwi rakh ke unn kangano ke badle jo aapne churaaye the uski Ma se! Kisi rishtedaari se na sahi kam se kam insaaniyat ke naate izzat karo uski!”
Shiva was stunned hearing Raavi’s ardent defense of him. He always thought that she never valued him. Even after she told him that she wanted to make new memories with him and start with friendship, he had pushed her away. If only he had trusted her and not get insecure, their lives would’ve been very different.
Prafulla was ready to spit fire now as she said, “Ae chokari, tu kya uska aur uski Ma ka bachaav kar rahi hai? Uss budhiya Suman ne teri itani beizzati ki, tere ghar mein hote hue bhi uss dusri ladki ko teri jagah di, aur tera Shiva chup chaap khada maze leta raha! Uss Ma-Bete ke liye itana pyaar? Uske liye tu mujhse ladegi?”
“Haan ladungi! Kyun ki aap galat ho! Aapko pata hai mere saath yeh sab kyun hua? Kyun ki Shiva ne mujhe kabhi apni patni maana hi nahi. Mein hamesha se uske liye uski maami ki behen ki beti hi thi. Hamaare rishte mein aag aapki wajah se lagi thi maasi…” Raavi said and then disheartened she added, “Aur usme ghee maine daala Shiva ko har pal galat samajh ke!”
Hearing Raavi say these words broke Shiva’s heart! She never knew that he had stopped thinking of her as his maami ki behen ki beti a long time ago. He never told her otherwise; never talked to her about what was bothering him. If he had just talked to her instead of fighting with her every step of the way, they could’ve been a real family.
Dejected, Raavi sat down on a chair and said, “Aur rahi baat kaaki ki, toh woh toh Ma hai na Shiva ki! Apne bete ki khushi ke liye unhe jo sahi laga unhone kiya! Par aap? Aap toh meri Ma ho na? Aapko mera dukh nahi dikhta Maasi Ma?” Raavi looked Prafulla with tears rolling down her eyes and Prafulla took her in her arms.
Raavi hugged her tight and cried, “Mein fail ho gayi Maasi Ma! Mein apna ghar nahi basa paayi! Mein apna rishta nahi nibha paayi!”
On the other end of the line, Shiva, too, fell apart. Even though he wanted Raavi to tell him her feelings, he never tried to understand her unspoken pain. He could hear her sobs and couldn’t tolerate it. He hung up and sat down on the floor hugging his knees as he couldn’t stop his own tears from flowing.
“Sshhh! Chup hoja Raavi! Kyun un logo ke liye aansu baha rahi hai?” Prafulla tried to console her.
“Mein Shiva se bohot pyaar karti hu Maasi Ma!” Raavi let it out.
Prafulla stepped back and looked at her. She cupped her face and said, “Tu paagal ho gayi hai? Itana kuch hone ke baad bhi tu uss se pyaar karti hai? Woh tere pyaar ke laayak nahi hai Raavi! Woh toh uss Disha ke saath aage badh raha hai! Beta bhool ja usse. Apne baare mein soch. Apne aane waale kal ke baare mein soch.”
Raavi wanted to tell her that Shiva wasn’t going to have any relationship with Disha but stopped herself. She knew that if she needed to make a fresh start with Shiva, the less their families knew about them, the better it would be.
She hugged Prafulla and said, “Maasi mujhe thoda waqt do please! Thodi space do!”
Prafulla agreed but on one condition; Raavi wasn’t allowed to mope around the house. Raavi agreed and asked Prafulla if she could make Baingan sabzi! Prafulla told her that the dinner was already done but Raavi insisted that she wanted to make Baingan sabzi and have that for dinner instead. Prafulla agreed and got up to go when Raavi hugged her from behind and said, “Sorry Maasi Ma!”
Prafulla kissed her forehead and left. Raavi took her phone and excitedly went to the kitchen to prepare Baingan sabzi for Shiva.
