Chapter 4

Countdown to inevitable..

Raavi hadn't seen him in two years.

Never in her thousands imaginations she thought she would meet him like this. Shiva was looking like he's seen a ghost. Raavi met his gaze and it finally snapped Shiva out of whatever trans he was in.

"Raavi?" he said, sounding strangled. "Tu...aap... Matlab tum?" He didn't know how should he address her. He never imagined they would meet like this. Whatever imagination he had... It was certainly not this. First thing he noticed was that she somehow managed to look even more beautiful. His heart was screaming from joy to see her again when he thought he would never be able to see her.. But he didn't know how would she react.. Her face was giving away nothing...

Raavi realized she was holding her breath, and let it out quietly. "Yeah... Me is project ke liye yaha aayi hu.. Humari company ki taraf se me ye project design karne wali hu.. "

"Tu... wow." He was so proud of her... His chipkali has done so good for herself.. "Teri kuch designs dekhi thi.. Bahut achhi thi."

"Thanks." Raavi swallowed a lump in her throat. Her bhootnaath was in front of her and she wanted to ask so much to him. She was so happy and proud of him that whatever resentment or negative feelings she held in her heart.. Just disappeared.. He had done so well for himself... How and when did it happen.. She wanted to ask... But could she? Could she maintain anything that was out of professional relationship with him? And it snapped her back to the reality. "Mene local tribes ke according kuch fusion designs taiyyaar ki h... Tum mujhe material dikha dete accordingly hum kaam chalu kar sakte h.. "

"Oh..ha, achha" Shiva had to blink to get back to reality... He still was in shock and couldn't believe it was happening in reality. He pulled out some samples out of bag, "Ye hi collect karne gaya tha.. Isliye thoda late ho gya.. "

"Jhooth mat bol, Tujhse bhooka nhi raha gya aur khate time tujhe aur kisi time ka pata nhi chalta." Raavi couldn't help himself before blurting out. She didn't know how to behave around him.. Some things were so simple and natural with him... Yet so complicated.

"Ha..me…" He scratched at the back of his head. "Tu jaanti to h.. Par sach me.. Samples bhi lene gya tha." He said with a small smile.

"They are some really good material," Raavi said, looking back down at samples.

When she left Somnaath, she thought Shiva left due to her and after hearing her departure he might come back to his family... She didn't know how much she could ask him. But the fact that he'd turned his life around gave her immense happiness and pride, she couldn't control herself but congratulate him. She always knew if he gave himself enough credit, he could do so much.

"Tune sach me bahut kuch achieve kar liya h Shiva," She said. "I'm so happy for you.. Kaha tha na tujhse... Apne liye jeene me, sapne dekhne me koi burai nhi h... Me khush hu tujhe yahan dekh kar." And she truly was.

"Janta hu. Teri un baato ko yaad karke hi yahan tak pahucha hu." A few moments of silence passed, both of them didn't know what to say. It was the last thing Raavi expected him to say. He thought about her words all these years? Shiva looked flushed and he was looking expectantly at her.

"Me ye material lekar jaati hu.. Tum yaha local workers ke touch me bhi ho na... Mujhe project ke liye kuch workers select karne honge jo embroidery aur local prints pe work kare... Me designs workout kar ke next meeting ka batati hu.. Tumhara number.. "

"Same h.. "

Raavi was not surely how she should behave around him. It was a very important project.. She have to be professional... There were so much past between them she couldn't let it come between her work... It was the thing she learned past two years. This was professional. She wouldn't let past feelings, bitterness or any other emotion let ruin this.

"Jab bhi next meeting aur workers ke liye milne ho call kar lena.. Aur kisi bhi cheez ki jaroorat ho to bata dena," Shiva hesitated after hearing her abrupt change in subject. "Theek hai?"

Raavi gave slight nod. She'd always imagined seeing Shiva again where it seemed like she hadn't spent a lot of time thinking about him. She might've indulged in a quick fantasy of their reunion, perhaps taking place at an event where she looked fantastic and would subtly be able to give him the cold shoulder.

She never imagined their reunion might be due to her work. And when she finally met she couldn't help but feel happy and proud... But it also didn't mean she forgot everything..

"Me call karungi?" she told him.

He looked happy... These two years seemed quite good for him... And he was in Somnaath that means may be he came back?... His family might have helped him do all this.. They loved him no doubt... And he worshipped his family..

He certainly cared for them far more than he'd ever cared for her.

"Theek hai me chalati hu.. "

"Theek hai" He nodded. "Kahi chhodna h?... Kyu ki me maal dekhne ja raha tha.. Raste me drop kar dunga.. "

"Nhi, me chali jaungi... Bas ye material aur design saath me attach kar du.. Baad me bhool jaungi.. Tum chalo.. "

"Theek hai." He paused, half turned to leave, "Tujhe khush dekh ke achha laga."

"Thank you. Me sach me khush hu." Her voice was quieter than she intended, but that didn't make it any less true. And then he smiled in the way she always wished he did - warmly, intensely, like she was the only one he ever smiled for.

And then he was gone with a hand raised in goodbye. Raavi blew out a long breath, trying to ignore how hard her heart had been beating that entire time, pulsing like she'd been sprinting, aching like she was out of oxygen.

Like she could ignore how it hadn't beat that hard for anyone else. Ever.

I read till chapter 4 in one go and I must say this is a very crisp plot. I love the way of story telling. I love how Shiva and Raavi’s characters have been shown to sort of grow together while staying apart.
