Some of the sacrifices I can think of off the top of my head are:
1. He lost the choice to choose his own wife. Even though he respects Dhara, he was emotionally pressured to accept because he knew everything that was happening. Had Raavi come up as a match outside of the marriage hall, I don't think he would've accepted. Maami and her family are the exceptions to the rules Dhara taught Shiva.
2. He lost his bachelorhood years. Despite being a few years younger than his brother, Shiva was married at the same time as Dev. The 20s is a time of immense growth and development. I am definitely not the same person I was when I was 21-22, and I think if he hadn't married Raavi, GauRa would've allowed him to take on more responsibility at the store. He could've traveled. Meet new partners especially as GauRa start a family themselves. Now, he is expected to take care of Raavi whether he wants to or not.
3. He lost the ability to enjoy his own wedding rituals. Dev and Raavi were able to celebrate every ritual possible, but Shiva and Rishita had not. For Rishita, at least she married someone she loved, but for Shiva, that is not the case.
4. He lost some of his dignity. He was treated as a commodity of sorts. Dev wasn't available but Shiva is! No one stopped to ask him how he felt. He was just handed the wedding clothes and was told to perform all the rituals. At least Raavi had time to prepare for the idea of getting married, Shiva did not. He woke up that day expecting a bhabi, not a wife. Worst of all, all that drama was aired to the town to see.
This ❤️❤️❤️
I will be honest.i have always had a soft corner for raavi.her pre wedding scenes, her innocence while writing her diary and dreaming about dev, her happiness when finally her marriage got fixed with Dev, her excitement when she was getting ready as a bride, her crushed dreams and hopes when Dev removes her hands from his.💔
As much as I acknowledge raavi's pain, Shiva's pain can't be ignored.the only difference is raavi's pain was acknowledged by both the families, her cries were heard, she was symphatized with.but what about shiva? He suppressed his whirlpool of emotions under a stoic exterior.he was expected to be the saviour, he was expected to provide raavi with warmth, comfort and love, he was expected to apologise and understand.why?this reminds me of dhara's dlg after the wedding
"Bechari ka dil toota hai "
Shiva was given the responsibility of " fixing" her heart by the family. The heart which was brutally broken by dev.and yet we get dlgs from dev like
"Main? Mai kaha kuch karta hu ?"
Because playing a prank on your bhabi is a far greater sin than dumping a girl at the altar.🤷
And after all this, all he gets in return from his family is threats, abuse and ignorance.
Not one hug of reassurance
Not few words of comfort
Not one look of pride
Not a single effort to understand him
I don't know what the intentions of the makers are. They are trying to make us feel for shiva, maybe.they are trying to highlight his pain.but in the process they are making us hate the whole family.
