Interesting concept! Do continue soon. I thought both events occured on the same night, but the last bit doesn't imply that. Unless, you are planning to permanently break them as a couple be friends forever as they move on with their respective new partners. I hope not.

He continued walking when he heard a girl screaming from far. He felt extremely anxious as he followed the voice in a hurry. He spotted the girl near a tree, she looked as if she rose from the ground, her hands were dirty, she held her leg crying, leaves stuck on her hair, mud on her dress, she was in a poor condition. Had he been the old Shiva, he would have definitely laughed at her. The girl was wincing in pain as he stepped forward. She then noticed a huge figure standing in front of her, she looked visibly embarrassed. Shiva sat on his knees and with a small smile, he gave a hand. She saw him with wide eyes, gave a tight-lipped smile, and held his hand for support as both of them stood. She stood and adjusted herself while Shivaturned to the opposite side giving her privacy. When she dusted off the dirt, she tried to limp as she hurt her foot very badly. Shiva held her hand for support as she walked.

She was able to walk after some time, Shiva offered to drop her home as she wasn’t able to walk properly, she thought for a moment and let him accompany her to home. It was a 20-min walk with complete silence; Shivahadn’t asked her anything. The girl tried to speak to him but she chose to remain silent as he looked lost and uninterested. They finally reached her home, her elder brother was already waiting for her, he looked worried for her and rushed to give her a hug. The girl then said something to her brother. They were loud enough for Shiva to hear but he just couldn’t understand their words, he was staring at the house behind them absentmindedly.

It was not a very huge one but not a small one either, he felt his heart fill at that sight, it reminded him of his house, Pandya Niwas. The girl's brother waited for her and lovingly welcomed her; he missed his brothers as he saw the siblings speak to each other. The girl came closer and held his hands bringing him to reality. He looked at her and felt embarrassed for zoning out. He politely opted to leave but both siblings insisted him to stay for the night as it was too late, he didn’t protest and he was given a room in their outhouse right next to the house. He wasn’t going to sleep but his body ached. He sat on the bed wondering where his life was heading.

******

These three months were easily the worst phase of his life. He experienced sorrow and pain at its extreme, he was a broken soul with no peace. He closed his eyes. In him was a child who yearned for love and understanding from his family.

That day maami had come to his house with the divorce papers in her hand blaming the whole Pandya family for ruining her daughter’s life. The whole family stood shocked while Raavi looked unemotional, she seemed to be okay with it. Shiva’s decision was a huge and drastic one, he knew it, he also knew the family was not going to welcome that decision of his. But their reaction was worse than he imagined. Gautam had beaten him up, scolding him for spoiling Raavi’s life, never in his 23 years of existence had Gautam behaved in this way. He felt anger when he hit him, he could feel his brother venting all his anger in him. He didn’t stop even after others tried interfering; it didn't hurt much physically but it definitely had its effect mentally and emotionally. All of a sudden, he felt like a stranger to his family. Their coldness towards him made him feel alien, he lost hope. He worshipped Gautam just like the Bholenaath himself, but today his Bholenaath knew he wasn’t completely wrong. Only he knew what he felt. Despite this, Dhara had not given up, she tried her best in uniting them, she had forced them to speak through calls, she went on to emotionally blackmail him to cancel the divorce and apologize to Raavi. Shiva refusing her words, cost him his relationship with his Bhabhi. She refused to talk to him, she led and the whole family followed. Adding fuel to the fire, Rishita once said that the divorce was the best choice as no one deservedShiva. They were breaking him from inside, he was turning vulnerable, he showed he needed their love indirectly, yet all of them refused to acknowledge it.

Suman was the only person who could understand him even inhis silence. A month passed in the house, the pandya niwas lost its color, Shiva rarely spoke, nor did the family to him. The only savior was Krish, he could make people smile in their sadness, only he and Suman spoke to Shiva and he would end the conversations with a word or two. Dhara assumed that the family's silence would force him to apologize and bring Raavi home but his silence shocked her. She couldn’t believe that her Shiva would refuse her. He followed his routine, he would wake up, get ready, eat in silence, worked at the store silently, came home, and slept on the aangan with Krish. Gautam andDev spoke to him only about the store and he preferred that. Every corner in his house reminded him about her. He was not happy, after a month and a half, he decided to move out of the Pandya niwaas for the sake of his sanity.

He had broken down in front of Suman, confessing all his feelings. Suman agreed with a heavy heart but had requested him to stay at Hardik's so that she could watch his activity. He didn’t want to agree but he couldn’t refuse Suman. Gautam had made arrangements for him to stay at Hardik's. Hardik traveled mostly which left Shiva alone eventually giving him the much-needed solitude.

This was not the first time that he was in a difficult situation, the only difference this time was the fact that none of the family members except Suman stood by him. Rishita was rude and cold towards him, he could clearly see that she felt disgusted about him, he had heard her screaming at Dev to stop behaving like his junglee brother. These things further made him feel worthless for Raavi.

He would call Suman twice a day and her comforting words calmed him down and made him feel sheltered. Another month and a half passed and the whole Somnath wondered of his existence until they saw him picking up sacks in the store. Dhara and the family expected something to change but Shiva remained the same. Sometimes he would think to give up and fall on Raavi’s feet, apologize and take her back to Pandya niwaas as to please the family but he just couldn’t because her happiness mattered despite his sadness.

Today, he was here in some stranger’s house yearning for love and comfort from his loved ones. A lone tear escaped his eyes as these memories flashed. His body ached and forced him to rest.

Raavi

That day she had signed the divorce papers with a heavy heart, her only worry was the fact that she was going to lose the family she loved the most. Her mausapa’s expectations from her would shatter. She chose to marry Shiva only for her mausapa. He believed that Shiva was a nice guy and hoped the marriage would work, but he had no idea that he was wrong. This divorce was going to strain his relationship with his sister which he mended after years but Shiva gave her no option. She couldn’t put up with him further. Her maasi was happy that her daughter was free from Shiva but also was worried about society and how they would treat her. Her mausapa was guilt-ridden after learning about their fights, but he hoped everything would be fine if they were given their space.

Raavi chose to work as a distraction from her sorrow. She went on to attend interviews, she failed in two of them but made it up with her third attempt. She found it quite hard to adjust to a completely new atmosphere, she had to meet new people every day, had to befriend some, had to work hard, make a place for herself. It did serve its purpose, a complete distraction from the Pandya family and her pending divorce from Shiva. The Pandya family was still warm to her and treated her like family, she was still allowed to go there, she had all the liberty just like she had prior her marriage. She missed the family and thankfully they still loved her. She went to Pandya niwaas after Krish used to assure her that Shiva was not home, Rishita and she bonded better than before and were more like best friends.

Suman was the only one who never faced Raavi or never welcomed her. Raavi didn’t like it but she had expected it.

The first month flew by with her busy schedule, the next two months were not the same, she grew fond of Shiva, she felt sad and guilty for him, she was trying to understand him from far. The reason for this change washer friend Amayra.

Amayra was a junior at her college but she always came to Raavi for help with her assignments. She was a sweet girl who lived away from Somnath, she was studious and hated gossips. She always lived in her own world with books as her best friends, Raavi had never liked her sitting alone and always called her for hangouts. Amayra liked Raavi because she reminded her of her elder sister Anahita. She knew Raavi had a crush on Dev but ended up marrying his brother Shiva. Her marriage was the talk of her class but she had no idea how her relationship was with Shiva. From all the little she heard, she assumed Raavi lived a happy married life. Amayra met Raavi at the workplace and was thrilled to have her there, they bonded much more after working together.

They spoke about their college memories, childhood pranks, and many more but Raavi never commented about Shiva. It was a casual day at the office, Amayra and Raavi settled on their chairs for lunch.

After gathering some courage Amayra spoke –

“Tum bohot lucky ho Raavi”

Raavi- Kyun? Tujhe aisa kyun laga?

Amayra- Bohot pehle se lagta toh tha, abhi bata rahi roon!

Raavi-Aisa kya hua?

Amayra- Woh, uss din humara group chat pe iske baare mein discussion ho rahi thi.. Kuch din pehle Rahul aur unka gang, Somnath ke mandir aaye the na? Wahan, Rahul tumhare pati ke baare bohut kuch bura bole jaa raha tha, lekin jab Rohan ne kaha ki tum Rahul ki crush thi, tumhare pati ne usko peeta aur wahan ek dum mast waala action sequence hua. Tumhara Shiva tujhe leke kitna protective aur possessive hai, she went on blabbering dreamily. That was the first time she had listened to that gossip because it involved Raavi.

Raavi – Kya? Toh isliye usne Rahul ko maara? She wondered. She felt quite happy as Amayra spoke, she wished it was true.

She further confirmed from her friends. This was a new revelation to her. She thought Shiva had hit him due to his insecurity, but Amayra told her the other side of the story, she didn’t know if she had to be happy or sad. She felt guilty, she hadn’t listened to Shiva. Only if she maintained her cool there, maybe the fight wouldn’t have worsened. She supported her friends, she called him out for being junglee, she made a joke out of insecurity, did that trigger him? was that why he was rude? She questioned herself. It disturbed her, she thought of her friend’s words about him, they mercilessly shamed him in front of her but she remained silent just not to create issues. It would have pricked him hard, she felt tears rolling down her eyes. These thoughts kept lingering in her mind despite work, she could never understand her Bhoothnath.

After that conversation, Amayra asked about her married life and her memorable moments, though she conveniently diverted the topic, her mind took her back to those days when they had something, which she was sure was not love, maybe an attraction phase. The whole day she spent thinking how he had always been a savior for her, how he protected her. A small smile appeared as she thought of those days only to disappear after the memories of their huge fight.

Amayra and Raavi had few other colleagues more like a group, they were close and hanged out together. Raavi admired Ritika, a fellow colleague who was talented and fashionable, from what she saw she was truly a beauty with brains. Amayra hated her, when Raavi casually asked, she said she never liked Ritika because one of her friends was at loggerheads with Amayra. It was a very normal thing but her mind thought otherwise. Is this why Shiva never liked her? Was it because of his hatred for maami? She questioned herself but she chose to shrug it off.

Three whole months after their fight, they never spoke, they hadn’t even seen each other despite living in Somnath. But Raavi’s mind was occupied with Shiva’s memories. Every small to a huge fight, childhood to adulthood. She never thought of him like this, even when she lived with him under the same roof.

________________

Shiva opened his eyes; it was almost afternoon. He slowly got up to leave the room, he saw the same girl waiting for him already. Her eyes were bright, she looked happy, she came closer and gave her hand introducing herself. Shiva hesitantly gave his hand while she spoke, “Anahita”. Shiva looked surprised yet confused. She was quick to understand and continued “Haan, haan, main hi hoon Anahi. Kaise ho Shiva?” She asked.

Shiva smiled happily; it was almost the first time he smiled after 3 months.

Shiva- Anahi, tu idhar? Kaisi hai? He was pleasantly surprised seeing her after years.

Anahita – Kaisi lag rahi hoon Shiva? She giggled. Bohot acchi hoon, tu bata, tera kaise chal raha hai, sabtheekh?

Shiva – Haan. Woh chod. Tu idhar kya kar rahi hai? Matlab tu yahan kaise. Tu toh Ahmedabad gayi thi na, yahan kab aayi aur tu us ped pe kar rahi thi?

He pounced on her with questions.

Anahita – Please baba! Shaant, shant. Batati hoon. Papa ke transfer ke baad hum sab Ahemdabad shift ho gaye the na, wahan pe maine apna UG complete kiya aur phir hum log yahi wapas aana chahte the. Iss ghar aur inse judi hui yaadein, ise hum bhool hi nahi paaye. Actually, Siddharth bhai aur Amayra toh yahan bohot pehle aagaye the. Main toh abhi kuch din pehle yahan aayi thi. Ab tu bata, aadhi raat ko Somnath se itni door tu kya kar raha tha?

Shiva was listening to her with excitement, he smiled and then said – Maine pehle poocha, tu aadhi raat ko wahan kya kar rahi thi?

Anahita – Tere dosti ka natija tha!

Shiva – Maine kya kiya?

Anahita – Kal mera din accha nahi gaya toh, gayi thi apne favorite waali tree ke paas..

Shiva smiled with amusement. Anahita was his classmate in his 5th standard, she lived in the city closer to Somnath but did her schooling there, she joined in the 4th standard in his class but he never bothered about her. It was during the beginning of their 5th standard, she and Raavi fought over a pen, the fight was a small one but Shivaenjoyed every bit of it when Anahita yelled at Raavi. They then bonded over their mutual hatred towards Raavi. Those were the days they would sit and plan to prank on Raavi.

Raavi was the reason for their friendship and he fondly called her Anahi. He was the same at school too, with shabby hair, loose shirt but that was never a barrier to his friendship with Ahani. Shiva even took Anahi to his house and introduced her to Dev to annoy Raavi. Their plans mostly worked leaving Raavi irritated and frustrated. Shiva had his best friends but Anahi was a little more special, he taught her to climb trees and also told her that he would always come and sit there when he was sad. Anahi liked the idea and they both would sit on the tress when their least liked Maths teacher scolded them for not doing their homework. But that was also the period when Raavi and Dev’s friendship increased. Raavi got a lot of time to spend with the Pandya family as Shiva would be away with his friends and Anahi. She left the school when they were in their 8th standard due to her dad’s transfer. He missed her badly but got used to it as he grew. They never remained in touch but their memories were always beautiful. He was surprised that Anahi still remembered the ‘tree’ and spent time with it when she was not doing very well.

Shiva – Sacchi, tu abhi bhi yeh sab karti hai? He laughed, he took a pause, and then continued, Tu ne mujhe pehchana kaise? Matlab, itne saal baad dekh rahe hain, main toh nahi pechchaan paya!!

Anahi – Kya karu, puraani adat jo hai.. Aur tujhe pechanne ka sawaal, Amayra ne apna UG Somnath ke college mein kiya tha, ek din aayi thi main Somnath. Wahan maine sab ko dekha, tujhe, Gautam bhai, Dev, Krish, Dhara di aur Raavi, yaar Raavi kitni khoobsoorat hai!! Matlab, sach mein woh toh Somanth ke sabse sundar ladki ban gayi hai. Usko dekh ke bhi accha laga, usne mujhe nahi dekha par maine sabko dekha. Aur tu, tu toh Pandya storepe kaam kar raha tha, boriyan utha raha tha, pata hai mujhe kitna accha laga?Tu apne dukaan mein kaam kar raha tha, tera poora parivaar sath tha. Pandya Store tera sapna jo tha, ab toh woh finally tum sabko mil bhi gaya.

Shiva – Haan, Pandya store ko kuch bhi karke apna banana toh tha! Ab Somnath aayi thi toh aake baat toh kar leti, aise bina baat kiye kyunaayi?

Anahi- Tu busy tha Shiva, disturb nahi karna chahti thi. Accha, mujhe yeh bata, tu Raavi se abhi bhi jhagadta hai?

Shiva – Itne dino baad tu mujhse mil rahi hai, saari baatein uss Chipkali ke baare mein?

Anahi – Pehle toh, tere baare mein poocha na, aur waise bhi, ab jab humare bachpan ke pranks ke baare mein sochti hoon na, toh hasi aati hai, bechari Raavi ko bohot pareshaan kardi na? Waise tum dono, dushman se dost bangaye hain ke abhi bhi dushman ke dushman hi reh gaye?

Shiva – Uske aur mere beech ki dooriyaan kabhi kam nahi ho sakti Anahi, he said turning to the other side, a lone tear falling from his eyes.

He quickly wiped it and diverted the topic. Anahi understood he was not in a state to talk about Raavi, from what she knew of Shiva, he would have loved to rant about Raavi but his answer was not convincing enough, he meant much more than he said. She decided to give him his space, she took him home, introduced him to her family. Anahi’s family was a beautiful one, her parents were very friendly and treated Shiva like their own, her brother Siddharth reminded him of Gaumbi, the responsible elder one, Anahi was the middle child, she had her own benefits, the younger one was Amayra, she reminded him of Krish but she was a little more studious and mature compared to him. He spent the rest of the day there after informing Hardik, who promised to inform his family. The day passed in peace, a pause from his sorrows, Anahi and Shiva promised to remain in touch, Siddharth even offered him a drive to Somnath.

****

She went to close the windows when she saw him standing on the balcony and staring at the wide sky. She never had a glance of him since they separated and they preferred that. But since Shiva shifted to Hardik’s she would rarely see him on the balcony as their houses were quite closer. When they met, Shiva would immediately break the moment and go back, it usually had no effect on her but things were changed now, she had no hatred or anger on him, it had disappeared into the thin air. She in fact tried to see Shiva, she wanted to apologize, she wanted to talk to him. She knew it was too late, she had still not forgotten the shame he brought to her but she wanted to apologize to him at the right moment when he would be in a state to listen.

His deep eyes, his dark-brown orbs did something to her. She saw him that day too, but there was a very visible change, his eyes beamed with happiness, she knew he was happy about something as she heard her maasi complaining about Shiva being happy that day. His eyes conveyed the same. Her heart pounded with joy seeing him that way. Everyone in Somnath knew what he had become in these three months, she wished he would remain happy forever and if anything was under her control, she would do that to make him happy. She slowly closed the window to not disturb him and went to her bed with a smile.

______________

It was already five months, a month more, Shiva and Raavi would be officially divorced. But the last two months were quite different, Raavi had become confused over everything, she seemed gloomy, she looked sad and lost in thoughts. Prafulla and Jagat tried their best to comfort her but nothing worked, she hated everything, she felt incomplete. She had become independent, she worked for herself, earned enough, she could buy anything for her maasi and mausa, she had the love and affection from the Pandya family but it was not it, something kept bothering her, it was him. She wanted to talk to him, if not at least pick a random fight. She purposely visited the store when he was around, she would ask him to pack which he would just pass on to Dev. What hurt her was him addressing her as a mere customer. He remained calm when she came and had no reaction. She would keep trying to gain his attention but he paid no heed. She tried falling on purpose but everyone except him came to her help before him. She knew she missed him; she was slowly realizing her mistakes. She yearned for forgiveness but she knew he was stubborn, despite so many attempts, she failed to speak to him. Dev took advantage of Raavi’s feelings and spent time with her explaining all good about Shiva. Dev always felt guilty for Shiva and Raavi’sseparation. He wanted them to solve their issues and cancel their divorce while the others had given up.

Meanwhile, Shiva had become much better, he had changed positively, he mostly visited Anahi’s place. Anahi and her family became his happiness, they made him feel like family. Anahi had become his personal consultant and mentor. She sensed a tinge of sadness when Shiva was around, after a few attempts, she got her way and made Shiva speak. He poured his heart out, his sudden marriage to the sudden divorce, all his sadness. She patiently listened to him, she felt horrible for what he was going through. Shiva was hesitant as for her to judge him, but she was still his very own Anahi.

Anahi was a practical thinker, they spent hours talking every day, Anahi eased his pain. She could easily feel his inferiority complex. She counseled him for the same. It was awkward for Shiva but he liked to listen to her, she would talk things from a different perspective. She had just completed Bachelor in Psychology, she never imagined that a lively firecracker likeShiva would be dealing with such issues. But she was more than elated to be able to help him in any way. She also learned a lot from him both personally and professionally. Pandya family was known for its happiness and unity but it was definitely not what it seemed. The family had its own problematic issues like physical and emotional abuse. From what she had seen it was a very common thing in a rural household. She was taken aback when she learned that Dhara and Gautam hit him ruthlessly for his mistakes. It hurt her to know that Shiva’s idols were wrong in his case.

He had distanced himself from his own family, he was just too exhausted to be with them, he truly felt lost, he loved them but chose to maintain distance. Gautam and Dev gave up on their silent treatment and tried engaging in more conversations but the roles had reversed, Shiva spoke very little in reply and continue doing his work. Gautam broke down seeing his brother that way. The family felt as if they lost their Shiva in the process of trying to make him the perfect husband. Dhara very much regretted her stupidity, she realized she should have rather spoken to him than being silent, she shouldn’t have let him leave the house. He only spoke properly to Suman and Krish, he mellowed down but a glimpse of the fun-loving Shiva was visible only when he was with them. With Anahi’s help, he had even managed to convince Suman to stop using her danda. This was the first time Shiva had asked for something from Suman. Suman was equally hurt when she had known that Dhara had hit her sons. She assembled the whole family and broke the danda, promising to never hurt anyone with it. She made the others promise that they wouldn’t behave violently with anyone for any reason.

Shiva had mentioned Anahita once to Krish but the blabber-mouth made it the talk of the house. He often asked about Anahita to Shiva in front of everyone. The family feared Shiva being in love with Anahita. Dhara and Gautam soon found out that Anahita lived away from Somnath. Hardik shared his piece of information about Shiva often traveling outside the city. Dev had informed Raavi about Anahita but she chose to ignore it as she believed Shiva could never befriend a girl, falling in love was far away. She never thought it was the same Anahita she was at loggerheads with as a child.
