Part 02:
She sighed as she wrapped the shawl tightly around herself and settled on her chair beside the window. Picking up her cup of tea, she sipped it gently and lost herself in the beauty of nature outside.
It has been 5 years since the day her marriage broke. 5 years since she spoke with anybody from her family. 5 years since she left her home with a resolve never to return. It hadn't been an impulsive decision though. True she had picked up her bags and left her house just after returning from the mandap. But coming to Shimla wasn't a decision taken then.
She had moved to her friend Shweta's house from where she left for Shimla two days later.
Flashback:
It was a dark, stormy night and Raavi could feel her own emotions swiveling out and thundering in the sky, leaving behind a void she never could fill. When she had walked out of the mandap, she had held her head high. She hadn't shed a single drop of tear till this moment. But now she could hold on no longer even as she collapsed on her bed, a withering mess. Sobs left her mouth which grew louder by the minute but the thundering storms outside did not let the wails of her pain escape the room. They remained confined in the room, just like it did in her heart.
"Why Dev? Why?" she screamed out, raw pain thumping in her broken heart, tearing her apart from within. With the numbness gone, she felt pain with even more intensity which left her insides burning. Excruciating pain manifested into bubbling rage even as she clenched her fists tightly, her sharp nails digging into her palm, cutting through her soft, delicate flesh.
That's when she registered the presence of a ring on her finger and looking at it, the plethora of emotions pummeling within her broke out even as she harshly tried to pull it out of her finger. But the size being inaccurate, the ring refused to budge from her finger. Enraged she stood up and moved towards the door. Placing her hand on the edge, she slammed the door repeatedly on her hand, uncaring about the pain it caused, till the ring broke into two pieces.
Great, even the ring was a fake one!
Wait, the ring was fake?
It hit her in a moment of epiphany that all the rituals performed with Dev weren't done genuinely! Her ring was fake, her Sangeet hadn't reached completion, her mehendi had been ruined due to allergy! None of it was ever true!
This brought her crashing down on the floor. She could bear it no more! What had she done to deserve this? Why her? Why only her?
Her parents left her, her best friend Shiva abandoned her, her Mausapa left her and now even Dev did? Why? Was it so easy to let her go? Was it so difficult to stay with her? Was it so impossible for a person she loved to stay with her?
Her tears continued to incessantly flow even as her entire body shook due to the intensity of pain she felt. After a few hours of sobbing her grief and heartbreak, she stood up. She wasn't going to fall weak. Raavi had enough of this now!
She could never forgive Dev for this betrayal nor could she stay here any longer. She had lost enough in this place already. She dint want to live here for a moment more.
And that was when she decided, she would go to Shimla. Her friend Manish lived in Shimla. She could go there.
Flashback ends
It was a tough call surely but she had to take this decision for her own sanity. She no longer could stay in the place which only reminded her of the people and things she lost.
"Raavi, make sure to keep yourself warm baccha. It's snowing heavily outside" Archana hollered from downstairs.
"Done already Bhabhi" Raavi said with a smile.
Archana was a lovely and warm lady. She was Manish's wife and hence her Bhabhi because she considered Manish her brother. Archana had been her pillar of strength since the time she had come here to stay with them. She had been with her always, whenever she needed support.
She sighed and placed her empty cup on the table beside. Picking up the half read manuscript, she continued her work.
She had recently taken up editing as a job along with sewing which she had started to pursue to keep herself occupied so that her mind wouldn't wander to those painful alleys of her being, which was true even now. Because though she showed she had moved on, a part of her was still in the past, still holding onto false beliefs and illusions. The only way to stop herself from delving into that part was by distraction and that was what she had been doing all these years!
Khaali Sheeshe Bhi Nishaan Rakhte Hain,
Toote Huye Dil Bhi Armaan Rakhte Hain,
Jo Khamoshi Se Guzar Jaye,
Wo Dariya Bhi Dil Mein Toofan Rakhte Hain.
