Distance Makes Us Stronger Part V

As the youngest Pandya brother, Krish always faced a whole host of problems. Yes, he loved being coddled by his family, and he rather enjoyed "manipulating" the feelings of his family members (mainly Shiva) to get away with things. However, despite those perks, he faced many, many problems. His family often forgot to include him in their many family hugs, he was not the third wheel but the seventh wheel in their house, and they frequently bullied him into doing things he didn't want to.

Like Shiva and his request for Krish to tell Raavi jokes every day.

At first, he had fun. He loved looking up jokes for his bhabi. Even though she wasn't laughing as she used to, she still seemed a little happier. But then, when his other bhabi became involved, he started to become a lot more wary.

Shiva specifically told him to tell no one about his request. And well... he wasn't going to go against Shiva. His brother had too much dirt against him, and he had less dirt on Shiva. For what it was worth, the only "secret" Shiva had was that he was in love with Raavi.

And that wasn't a secret. The whole family knew. For months. Yet Shiva and Raavi were purposely playing dumb or were just absolutely clueless (and Shiva kept saying he had difficulties reading the atmosphere sometimes). And as much as he wanted to lock Shiva and Raavi in a room so they could talk out their feelings, his Dhara bhabi told him that he should leave them to their own devices to discover their feelings.

He was fine about all of that.

But those two were so frustrating!

Eight months after he was sure Shiva had fallen in love with Raavi (he witnessed many things from Shiva scribbling Raavi's name on one of their audit papers, to Shiva whispering Raavi's name whenever he thought he was alone, to Shiva looking for Raavi in the room)... and these two were still not together!

Instead, he was working overtime to find jokes. And now his Rishita bhabi, who'd watched him laugh on his phone one too many times, thinks he has some secret girlfriend. Despite telling her otherwise, she just couldn't get the thought out of her head.

And now the whole family was thinking he was hiding some secret girlfriend since Rishita made it a point to tease him during dinner. Yeah, he had it rough, but he always thought Shiva had it worse. Shiva was away from his family and the store (both his first and second loves), and his now third love, Raavi. And he always seemed distant while on the phone.

But, clearly, he was wrong.

"Raavi bhabi! I can't wait to tell you the joke that I found today!"

He knew about Shiva's arrival (Shiva, Gaumbi, and Dhara bhabi had told him about it), but he became so used to telling jokes, he couldn't not tell a joke at this point. Now, though, he wished he never entered the room.

His eyes would've been spared from seeing such a sight.

Here I was thinking I had a better life than Shiva. He clearly is living the best of his life! Upgraded from being a Devdas to this...

He didn't even want to know how those two ended up where they did. Shiva was very much shirtless (hair disheveled with a warm flush to his skin), and Raavi (he didn't even want to describe the state of his bhabi) seemed just about all over his lap. Both of them sported heated gazes, and he just knew that if he didn't ruin their alone time, there would be a lot less clothing between his brother and bhabi... disgusting... So what if you're getting prasadam, Shiva? At least lock the door so others don't get jealous...

Mainly him.

He honestly hated seeing all these couples. Rishita bhabi and Dev were something else with their open displays of romance, even Dhara bhabi and Gaumbi couldn't hide their attraction sometimes, but Shiva and Raavi? For the longest time, those two were friends/enemies. He felt safe around them. He didn't need to worry over walking in on something he shouldn't have. Those two were always comfortable having him around, and his Raavi bhabi become one of his best friends (at least, when she wasn't moaning and groaning about when Shiva would come back). Even when Shiva was gone, one of his favorite pasttimes with Raavi was when both of them dressed up like Shiva and acted like Shiva.

Raavi would typically pick the red checked shirts and he would go with the yellow/greens. They would both insult each other in Shiva's characteristic dialogues and then laugh over how dumb his brother was.

Fun times.

Guess he wouldn't partake in those activities anymore, considering his Raavi bhabi seems to have caught the same fever Rishita has...

"Krish?" Raavi slipped off of Shiva with a grin as Shiva quickly tossed on his shirt. She seemed a little too happy and perky. Not at all what he would've imagined after catching them in such a position. Well, then again, at least he didn't see parts of them he shouldn't have...

Krish paused before saying, "Are you happy, bhabi, because," he leaned over to the side and glanced over at Shiva who was sending him a death glare. The words from Krish's mouth became trapped. Shiva? Why are you so angry? He turned back to his bhabi and noticed that the smile didn't escape her face. It didn't make sense to him that his brother was angry while his bhabi was blissfully happy. He glanced at the ground with a frown, "Um... what's happening?"

Despite what his family thought, he was very much in tune with the situation. He just cracked a few jokes that may or may not be appropriate at the time.

"I'm just super happy, Krish," Raavi held his hand with a huge grin. "Shiva confessed to me!"

Krish's eyes widened, "Did he? I'm so happy for you bhabi!"

Finally. These two bewakoofs finally did it. Does this mean I can tell Rishita bhabi why I spend such a long time laughing on my phone? Will my family finally believe I'm single and help set me up with a pretty girl? My days of being a seventh wheel are finally coming to an end!

Raavi immediately frowned, "Well...no, Dream Shiva confessed to me."

And that does it. I thought Rishita bhabi was crazy... Dream?

Krish frowned as he turned to glance at the breathing and very much alive Shiva sitting on the bed. Shiva shook his head with a glare and Krish nodded his head once with affirmation. He turned to Raavi with a sugary sweet smile, "Really? Dream Shiva confessed to you?"

When he noticed Shiva was relaxing on the bed, Krish leaned forward and smirked, "Did you confess to Dream Shiva?"

Raavi nodded her head, and Krish couldn't help but wryly think of just how airheaded his bhabi was. She was too easy to fool. But, that was the exact reason why his brother loved her so much. Bechara Shiva needed someone to bring him back to his childhood, and Raavi was the perfect soul for him. Bechara Shiva also needed a devious brother to meddle because at the rate these two fools were going, he'll have grandchildren before they become a couple.

"Well, do you want to confess to the real Shiva?" Krish asked with mischief. He noticed his brother stiffen. This is payback. I can't believe you're here romancing your wife while I was left all alone trying to defend myself!

Raavi's immediately flushed. She rubbed the back of her head, shyly, "I... I mean that's the plan." She immediately rolled her eyes and crossed her arms, "But it's not like I can confess. Shiva isn't even in Somnath!"

Ah, so that's where the confusion is coming from.

Krish glanced at Shiva when Raavi wasn't noticing and mouthed, "Get ready!" to his brother.

He turned to Raavi with a grin, "What do you mean? Shiva's already in Somnath!"

Raavi's eyes widened as Krish glanced over to a horror-struck Shiva. He expected Shiva to immediately confess that he was not some dream as Raavi had thought, but Shiva stayed silent, causing Krish to become even more frustrated. This was definitely not what he was planning at all. Shiva was supposed to become so scared! He was supposed to apologize to Raavi for pretending, and they were supposed to hug it out like a proper Pandya couple. These two were in love for a long time! What's the hold-up?

Okay, Shiva, you've left me no choice.

"In fact, he's in the store, right now!" he grabbed Raavi's hand, already mapping out the route to the store using the quickest shortcut. As long as he and Raavi went to the store first, Shiva would have to confess his lies. "Let's go to the store!"

Raavi was all too excited that she ran out of the room before him. Now that Shiva and him were in the room alone, Shiva glared at him, "Gadheda, I was planning on confessing to her tomorrow, on our wedding anniversary." Shiva immediately went to the almirah to grab a new shirt, "If you ruin any of this, I'll make sure you won't live to see tomorrow!"

Krish immediately frowned hearing these words. He didn't understand how any of this was fair. Shiva was definitely in love with Raavi for a long time. Instead of confessing to her like a proper husband should, they were playing one too many games. But he supposed he could respect Shiva's decision this time. Confessing on his wedding anniversary probably held some sort of significance.

Krish rubbed the back of his forehead, "Okay, I'll do my best to distract and delay bhabi." He frowned and glared at Shiva, "But if you don't tell bhabi tomorrow, I will tell her." He had a lot on the line and wasn't willing to lose.

Shiva's glare didn't dissipate, but he did eventually nod his head, "I will tell her. Tomorrow."

Shiva rushed out, leaving Krish all alone.

I wish I was never stuck between these two idiots. Why is everyone in those house so crazy? Dev and Rishita bhabi can't even keep their hands off each other, and Shiva and Raavi bhabi are so cluelessly in love... why am I always the one left to pick up the pieces?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One Year Ago...

The greatest surprise Raavi ever gave the family was when she offered to help at Pandya store. That was probably when Krish noticed Shiva glancing at Raavi differently. Prior to that, they were good friends who knew many embarrassing and useful facts about each other. They had no boundaries (not like they had any before), and they were just comfortable.

But, Krish began to notice how Shiva's eyes lingered on Raavi for a second too long. Or how Shiva's anger would flare when he noticed some man staring at Raavi for far too long while she was at the counter taking care of the bills.

What surprised him most, though, was the interest that Shiva had with everything that Raavi did. Even when old ladies were gossiping with his wife, Shiva would keenly listen with interest. Never failing to hide his smile whenever Raavi spoke excitedly about some trivial factoid. Or even how Shiva would always make sure to leave a bottle of water or a mango juice if Raavi spent too long talking.

He was nothing like the angry Shiva he knew so well. And it wasn't even the Shiva that was around Dhara bhabi...

Today was no different from the other days.

Raavi was at the store like she usually was, wearing a light blue salwar. Her hair was tied back, and she was sporting her usual glowing smile as she spoke about the latest fashions with the ladies of Somnath. Ever since she came to the store, she's been dressing a little more trendier, wearing the latest models of jewelry or clothing, and that seemed to attract even more customers.

"The beadwork on this dress is beautiful, hai na, Raavi beta?" one of the aunties that came today shoved the phone in Raavi's face.

Raavi took it gingerly and glanced down, scrolling through the images. Her nose scrunched up as she frowned. Shaking her head, she returned the phone, "It looks good..." she finally settled, trying to be as nice as she could. "But don't you think it's too much?"

Shiva was busy doing quality checks for their food stock. He reached for a bag and turned to Raavi with a soft smile.

Raavi reached for her phone and murmured, "But do you know what is beautiful?" she eventually turned the phone to the aunty's direction. "This lengha. Aren't the colors absolutely beautiful?"

Krish noticed Shiva stiffen. He dropped the bag he was holding into the bin containing chaval.

"Just look at how seemless the design is. Peacock border to the flowers," Raavi was still busy trying to entertain the idea with the aunty. And based on the aunty's expression, it seemed as though even she approved of Raavi's selection. "And then the duppata has matching flower embroidery and crystals."

Shiva glanced around the store, seemingly lost. He swallowed and immediately headed to the shelves directly behind Raavi. But despite moving around the snacks on that shelf, Krish couldn't help but roll his eyes when he noticed Shiva seemed way more interested in checking out the dress on Raavi's phone.

Shiva, if you really wanted to know more about the dress, at least do it with some tact. You're way too embarrassing...

Krish cleared his throat, dropping his work and running over to his bhabi with his signature smile, "Bhabi! Show me the dress!" When he reached his bhabi, he immediately took the cell phone from her. Luckily, as the youngest, he always had the most amount of free passes, and it seemed like Raavi wasn't even angry at him.

She simply shook her head with a smile and turned back to the aunty to continue their conversation.

Krish meanwhile ran his eyes over the lengha. It was very average looking, and he didn't even understand why Raavi was so attracted to it. But, it wasn't him buying it, so maybe he shouldn't complain.

He immediately copied the image, and went to the chats section to find his brother's number. He pasted the image and sent it to Shiva before quickly deleting the message.

He turned to Shiva whose eyes were trained on Krish the entire time. He seemed ansty. But Krish showed the screen with the chat and mouthed, "Sent it to you!"

Shiva immediately smiled with relief.

He thought that would be the end of it. But four months later, he saw the dress again. His bhabi wore the turquoise lengha with the blush pink duppata. She had matching earrings and kandans. Though he didn't like the dress in the image, he couldn't help but comment on just how beautiful his bhabi was now that she wore the dress.

The colors really suited her, and when she stood next to Shiva, who wore a blush pink dress shirt, Krish couldn't help but feel as though they complimented each other in every aspect.

Even though Raavi believed Dhara had given her the dress, Krish knew better.

Shiva spent 3 months going to thirty different stores in his free time to get a dress like this one. And when he couldn't find out, he ended up getting a custom designed dress. And he was only privvy to the information because he heard Shiva speaking on the phone with the tailor. Despite spending all that work on getting the dress to become a reality, Shiva chose to give her the dress via Dhara.

All because he didn't want to ruin their friendship.

But Krish knew better. His brother was in love. And he just needed time to realize that.

And well, up until then, he'll just record all the moments they have with his cellphone... Krish pressed the play button and couldn't help but smile when he relived the scene he accidentally caught.

Raavi was sprawled across the sofa, still wearing her lengha, and Shiva was sitting on the ground next to her, holding her hand. His thumb brushed her palm gently. He smiled at her gently, the happiness extending all over his face, "Happy birthday Somnath ka khoobsurat yuvrani." He brought her palm up to his lips.

It was the first time Krish had ever seen Shiva this peaceful and content. It seemed as though he achieved everything and anything he ever wanted in the world, and Krish couldn't feel any happier.

But what made Krish the happiest was hearing his brother say:

"I hope you achieve all your dreams... but I hope you'll allow me to be a part of those dreams as well."

Notes: So sorry! Writing this chapter ended up taking a lot longer than I intended. I know all of you were expecting to see Raavi find out the truth... Hopefully you aren't too disappointed as this is very much a filler chapter. I never intended for her to find out the truth in that room. In the next chapter, she does find out! As for when the next chapter will be out... not too sure. I'm going to aim for 10 days from now, but it just might be 15-20 days depending on how stressed I am... Either way, I hope you all enjoyed!
