yeah the society is patriarchal and doesn't expect women to speak up and are shunned when they do... but Meenu defies norms and cinematic liberties aside there are women like that in real life too.. women who walk the talk..

Not to forget the drama also focuses on birth control and as meenu has gone through the same in her own household with 5 brothers and anyone barely meeting their needs, she clearly knows what’s right and what’s not. Its not even about a village girl raising her voice.

The premise was not set for Meenu making this demand.

Her having 4-5 brothers is you presuming it bothers her. She’s never talked about it in the show. Not once. About how big her family is. Or about her mother birthing so many kids. Or if she died in childbirth. Nothing of the sort was written.

Her friends difficult birth was not what she was worried about. It was saving her friend’s life. Again, birth trauma is neither depicted by the show nor is the reason for her worrying.

The only reason this is being nitpicked on is because the drama had set its own high standard and at this important turn, it fell short. Still enjoyable of course but this was too abrupt and out of the blue. The sudden motivation to demand this specific thing is not really explained. Even if you put aside how she does it.

It happens

Look at people questioning Deepika Padukone's pregnancy, people want a woman to behave in a certain way. Village people aside, women across globe are treated in similar manner, expectations from them are as archaic as it can get

God forbid she puts on a pair of heels when pregnant, god forbid she asks questions about her future or speaks about her preference.

In USA, abortion laws have been in discussion for last few years, we have seen even in first world nations women aren't given the right to their bodies

The most important aspect of it is discussion, there should be a discussion around why, when a woman talks about birth control or family planning, it is so unrealistic? Shouldn't it be the norm?

Shouldn't women know more about these things? That's where education is important, the central theme of this drama

Drama can't change anything, it'll only put the regressive outlook of society towards women on display.

The concern is galat kya hai usme?
and why its coming as a shocker considering its the theme?

Who is saying it bothers her?
We ain’t presuming it we are seeing it as an audience. As an audience we have got access to most of the things about the drama. In the initial episodes she had a discussion with her friend regarding how a mother should be educated. She said that saari zindagi her mom gave birth, agar 4 jamate padhi hoti toh parveen banti machine na banti.
From there you know where she is coming from. It was not at all a sudden motivation and hints are there throughout. People just couldn’t get it.

Theme doesn’t mean kahin pe bhi ghussa do yar. Its such an important message tou thora sa tou behtar set up ho sakta tha? They could have really fleshed it out. Like they’ve done with her wanting to study, and why and how. Itna acha dikhaaya woh sab.

Even the people who raised this issue aren’t saying keh drama or episode is not enjoyable. It is. For entertainment purpose Bohat mazay ka sequence tha. But realistic tou bilkul bhi nahi tha. Even with someone like Meenu this was a third meeting type of discussion smiley36

You asked keh ghalat kya hai es me? Ghalat kuch bhi nahi hai. Bus thora ajeeb aur random tha and needed some build up imo smiley20

The society

Set 1 - Groom's family and groom come with intention to lie about his financial and educational background and marry the girl by feeding her lies

The groom finds nothing wrong with it

Set 2- Meenu was upfront about her wishes and he found it too much

Set 3 - Meenu's father watches everything, he knows his daughter's nature and supports her when Meenu asks to speak to the groom he goes "This is my real Meenu"

Set 4 - Girl in classroom judge Meenu for doing gandi baatein

Drama presented one sequence from 4 perspectives

On the other hand, none questions the groom for lying because men and their ways are accepted by society as a norm.

Yeah!

I was quite surprised when I saw her talk of family planning didn't sit right with many people. I didn't even think it would be the case.

Because see, when people say, she should have waited and first get to know the man,. that's really hard in arranged marriages. You won't really get to meet and go out and take time here. It's either yes or no after couple of meetings. Here anyway Meenu didn't have any romantic dreams. She is upfront, progressive when compared to other people from her family or friends. She saw how her brothers turned out, saw the lack of education, her mother Ka haal. So, she spoke about it. It's better to clear this out. Especially when she has support from her beloved father. Why would she not clear things out. Again it also highlights how, just Meenu being progressive is not enough. See how she was name called and was character assassinated bcz she spoke about it and rishta was cancelled. She will face more hurdles because of her progressive thinking in the future. That's the point. Also if someone says that she should have married and spoke about children later, how is that fair. If your partner wants something else, how are you going to come to a common ground. We see so many shows where hero/heroine hides things before marriage and everyone goes like they should have cleared this before marriage. But yahan she is doing it phir bhi it's a problem. Hehe! Again, you won't believe but there are people who live in underdevelopment places but are still progressive. Yes, it's not a norm and not common.. but it takes efforts. It's about having an agency. That man wanted more children he refused, what would they have done if they got married? If both are stubborn, divorce hojata..

I'm surprised that people didn't expect it from her. When I saw the precap I decoded it right there. Kahin muljhe ilhaam tou nahin aate? smiley36
