I am sure Jenim or Hopeful will come back with a more detailed update,
here is highlights.

Looks like Murali and his pair got eliminated on last week.

first pair out was Kavitha and Bharath (to those of you who watch Arase,
he is the one who comes as Doc's son, right?). they had a good
improvement this week than they had on their intro round. Thye danced
well and got good comments from all the 3 judges. Lawrence also pointed
how they cried last time and how difficult it was for the judges to make
them smile, but this week they were SUPER. 👏

Scores : M: 9 J: 9 L: 9 = 27

Navash . Julie: Navash danced very well, but Julie was a little bit slow, but
she had great expressions. Its seems Julie had a accident day before with
a motorbike so they re - arranged their dress to cover up her bandage.
Got good comments, Jambo master pointed out, one of them dance well
while the other has good expression, they should make sure that both of
them have both this.

scores: M: 8 J: 8 L: 9 = 25

Absara - Adithya
Their starting was good, but the boy was kind of slow and missed a few
steps. girl covered up his mistakes 😆 everything else was good, their
dress, coordination etc, but the boy danced without shoes, Mumtaj
pointed that out.

Scores: M:7 J: 7 L: 8 = 22

Last coupe Ossein and Nivetha (the other girl couldnt tale part so she is
replaced)
Gril danced okay while the boy missed a few steps and he was not in the
same tempo like he used to be on last round. background dancers
outstanded them, esp the kids so all of the judges praised kutties and
Lawrence master went to rhe stage to applaud them 👏

scores: M: 7 J: 9 L. 7 = 23

according to the scores, Absara and Adithya are eliminated this week, but
Aruna devi and the few others made comments against it cause the
judgement should be based of the dancers, and not the group dancers.
they were kind of against JohnBabu masters scores, he gave them 9 and
one of them talked it on a rude manners. somehow, Lawrence master
explained its not wrong to point out, but the way they did was wrong, so
no elimination this week cause of that. but he had a guilty feeling and
wanted to apology to Murali cause they were eliminated last week.
Mumtaj made protests, if Murali and his pairs didnt got another new
chance, then she wont come back either 😆 J and L was kind of
confused cause they cant take bake their judgment but later agreed since
it was new year so everyone should get a new chance and wanted
everyone to forgot the whole thing and start fresh 👏

Lawrence master didnt get his usual 10 min, but he said he was okay with
it, cause the constants are also like his family so he was happy his time
went to them for a good case. he also said students should listen to their
teachers 😆

Anyway, I think the judges was not rude or anything like that, they
managed the situation unlike some "people" did last time 😉

Meli,
fyi Simran announced at a press conference that Mumtaz was one of those responsible for the murder of her cousin. Rs. 50000 worth jewellery and other things were missing after the murder.
Ever since, I've not liked Mumtaz.

Meli - First of all thanks for the update. Your almost comprehensive update, makes another update superfluous 😉 Still, I'm gonna log in my comments on this show.

There may be a lot of reasons why one may or may not like Mumtaz. But I've totally loved her so far, for her candid judgement on this show. "Summa Nethi adi" comments and judgement from her! She barely misses anything in the contestants' performance. Her very good observation, expression, choice of tamil words (despite being a Mumbaiite all her life till she entered the tamil industry a few years ago) her boldness and particularly not rehashing some other judge's comments - she has a style of her own!

Lawrence master pathi kekkave venaam. He's simply great! The way he peacefully solved the issue at the end, between Nisha and JohnBabu Master was just too good.

I feel the program managers and SunTV simply made the promos look as if this was going to be a very controversial episode. They did succeed in getting the audience curiosity up. In reality though, this episode was nothing when compared to the Simbu, Prithvi galatta of Jodi #2 😆 .. Thank God!
Just like Meli and Thamizhan observed, the situation was brought well under control by both parties (the Judges and the contestants who complained from the audience).

I missed the show last week. Didn't know it was a Disco round. The songs were all picked from an era when Disco was a craze. 'Twas quite nice to hear songs from the 80's.

Even before Umar and Nithya's (the last pair) performance ended, I was thinking why on earth would they keep on showing the back-up kids performance (and the kids took the limelight by dancing splendidly in the front, for most of the performance, instead of being just support dancers). The stage looked very busy at that time with so many dancers. It was very distracting and definitely took away the "performance" time from the actual contestants themselves. Mumtaz e-x-a-c-t-l-y reflected my views. JohnBabu awarded 9 marks to this pair, and he also said this is for the total performance (and not just based on contestants dance). Like ArunaDevi and Nisha (these were contestants who danced last week) I was also ticked off by this. The scores should only be based on the jodi's performance, costumes, props etc and not based on the supporting dancers, as well.

I think JohnBabu was upset, that the other contestants were questioning his judgement, esp Nisha. There seems to be some ego offended as well. ArunaDevi raised some valid questions - that the scores should only be judged on the pair's peformance and nothing else. Nisha said that it is not fair to award 9 to Umar/Nithya as the pair was even talking briefly during the performance. Anyway, the issue was very ably resolved by the judges in total, esp. Mumtaz and Lawrence. Since it was decided that there were won't be any eliminations this week, Mumtaz was right in saying that it would only be fair if they bring back Murali and Rishitha who were eliminated last week - if not she will back off from being a Judge. Every one agreed and they brought Murali and Rishitha on stage - Murali seemed quite happy at the decision, but Rishitha didn't look too happy - may be she still has some grudge!

So, there will be one more Round 1 and no one eliminated so far. The Judges reiterated that they won't be lenient any more (like this episode) and they will not hesitate from axing people from the next show onwards.

In all, being a cynic that I am, I can't shake off the feeling if some of this drama could have been choreographed. At some point, I really felt that way(when Mum said she won't be a Judge on the show anymore unless....etc etc - just that line - definitely that was set up by the Director of this show to spark some controversy and mainly for the sake of the promos 😆 )

But it did look real when Lawrence explained to JohnBabu not to take Nisha's comments at face value b'cos she was not Tamil (she did have a mallu accent) and probably did not mean what she said - He also explained to Nisha that JohnBabu was right in feeling offended being the experienced Dance Master he is. In the end, he made both of them shake hands and the girl seemed quite relieved that Lawrence eased the tension between her and JohnBabu, amicably.

For the last few weeks, they are showing some glam dolls performance during break time. They are OK. What they can do instead, is to bring the little kids who danced this week to give their performance during the break. That would be more appropriate to showcase their talents as opposed to the kids dancing during prime show, which was overshadowing the contestants performance itself!

But I have a feeling that the choreographer purposely got too many back-up dancers and the kids on purpose for the last pair, b'cos the girl was too inexperienced with her dance. I caught her slipping while dancing two times. May be too nervous and not enough practice.. The girl who she replaced earlier was just tooooo good. I wonder why she backed off from this show?!

Meli you have put in all the detils in the update so there is no need for furhter addition.Anyway I kept on hopping from Sun tv to Kalaingar tv cos both were telecasting the dance show at the same time.
Lucky nothing melodramatic happened. 👏 👏 to the judges.

Just a piece of info. In KTv there is a programme called Vanthutangayya Vanthutanga. It is a dance show making fun of Jodi No1 season 2.A look alike of Simbu is one of the judges and he is called Jambu 😆 He will act and behave as how Simbu did Jodi No 1.The lady doing Sangeetha's role is called Mangeetha 😆 The dance master's role is done by one comedy actor .Don't know his name.Since all the three shows clash I am unable to watch it fully. But they really made fun of Simbu. 😆

Jagdu are you talking of the actress Monal.I thought she committed suicide after a tiff with her boyfriend.Though I don't like Mumtaz, she is doing quite a good job as a judge. But I think she should avoid doing the acting stuff and just concentrate on judging. 😆

Jenim you are right. It was just a gimmick by Suntv to woo viewrs.I too felt it was all a set up by the director of the show.Come on this is a dance programme not a serail.Vijay Tv adopted this tactic and why must Sun tv copy this.Recently I noticed Suntv copying all the hit programmes from other channels. For that matter Kalaingar is not far behind. In fact both are having same kind of programmes, looking like Siamese twins 😆

On the last jodi, I too think the kids were cleverly used to camouflage the dancers shortcomings 😆 .Maybe the rules should be made clear so there will be no miunderstandings later.

Oh Hopeful.. appadiya? Siamese twins..aa, Originality-ye kidayadhuppa inga.. Either they copy hit shows from US/UK or copy among themselves. That way, Vijay TV's Program Directors are some what more creative..

Since Maanada (Kalaignar TV) is a popular show, I wonder why SunTv would telecast MM2 also at the same time? Won't their TRP be up if they switched it back to saturday, so there won't be any clash between these 2 shows revenue?

Yeah you are right about Monal - Simran's sister. It was a suicide because Brinda/Kala's nephew Prasanna (not actor Prasanna) dumped Monal after an affair with her. Simran who flew back from Canada during her shooting of Panchatantram was told certain things by her relatives. The short tempered and grieving Simran didn't waste any time and quickly called for a Press Meet and blamed Prasanna for the suicide. B'cos Simran was abroad, her relatives seem to have called Mumtaz's Manager at that time when they realized Monal was dead.. No they didn't call the Police first! Then they blamed that Mumtaz's manager took Monal's cash and so Simran was all pointy fingers at that Press conference.

The revengeful Brindha released to the Press, Simran's very close pictures with a Canadian dance assistant during the shooting of PanchaTantram. They also leaked that Kamal and Sim got very close during the film's shooting. Definitely, the Dance master sisters were very evil at that time, by protecting their nephew and speaking ill of Simran and Monal. It was well known in the film circle of Monal's affair and Prasanna subsequently dumping her.

Eventually, Simran learnt that she can't survive in the film industry by earning the wrath of the dance master sisters and she gave in. She called for another Press Meet and apologized openly to the sisters and to Mumtaz as well. This was all very well known at that time and a lot of gossip feed to fill tamil mags for weeks.

Yes Jenim, I find Vijay Tv has more original programmes and also of different genre to suit all.Vijay tv has improved tremendously in recent year.
I too am wondering why Sun tv changed the programming time.Maybe they are over confident cos of the new judges. Oh I forgot to mention that Manada Mayilada actually started at 7 yesterday. But their 1/2 hr news is at 7.30 so it continued after 8 .Looks like kadumayane potti among the two😆
But Manada Mayilada has the star factor and it is into the semi-finals stage. Now I know why the promo was aired 😉

thanks meli for the detaied info, im still trying to catch the names of the contestants. in singapore, we just saw murali and rishita, the first couple to be eliminated. rishita was blamed by mumtaz saying she brought the whole team down and when the announcement was made, poor murali was pulling a long face together with rishita.

and jagdu, i did read about that interesting piece of news when it came it. seems nagma was blamed for it cause her real name is mumtaz or something? nagma then denied it and forwarded it back to this mumtaz lol.
