1. The Corporation of Madras was established in 1688, making it the oldest municipal body in the Commonwealth Nations, outside Britain itself.

2. Chicken 65 was invented in Chennai. Thebfamous Buhari hotel, introduced it in 1965 and hence the '65' in it's name.

3. There is a 450 year old banyan tree covering an area of 40000 sq ft, right in the heart of Chennai. The famous Adyar Banyan tree in Theosophical society gardens is considered to be one of the largest banyan trees in the world. The main trunk however was damaged irrecoverably by a cyclone in 1989. Fortunately, its numerous aerial roots which had taken root over the years,continue to grow.
