Ramya thanks for this lovely thread...it took me to my days in Madras.I started reminiscing about my past.

Though I was not born in Madras, spent most of the important days of my life in Madras. So Madras is close to my heart; yes it was Madras then not Chennai. Schooling college everything I did in Madras..

The first thing or place come to my mind when I think of Madras is Mylapore, kapaaleeshwar temple,(which was closest to my school), a crowded market around it and Arupathimoovar festival.😛

Then comes beaches...though Marina is many peoples favorite I like santhom beach which was nearer to my house..not much crowded [then].

How can I forget about shopping ..As Ramya said there were not many malls then...Spencers plaza, fountain plaza..only these 2 I remember...but nothing can match the shopping at Ranganathan street and pondy bazar. Now I have moved to a different city but still never miss any opportunity to visit Madras and roam around pondy bazar and panagal park..

I have many more sweet memories linked to Madras but need another thread to share everything...he he he. it will become more of a suyapuraanam then..😆
