@dmg Yes. Top institutes are there which do not ask for donation which is good. But as u said before the ratio to the students is very less.

In my state of TN, there are possibly one 2 or 3 colleges under govt which is good. There is no entrance exams for engg in our state. So the criteria is based purely on marks. The cut off(which includes, Maths, Phy, Chem, CS) is taken for 200. Only students who get 200 or 199..get thru to the top colleges..whereas the others just by 0.5 difference lose out and end up paying lakhs to get into the next big college.

Another issue is the private and govt colleges. With so many private colleges which do give good placement, students join there paying heavily with the hope that they will get a job which pays high and hence money spent can be compensated. Max students get job too..but are not able to sustain in it

@Shwets
Got ur POV and couldn't help but pity those stats its really a shame that deserving students suffer
Well regarding ur other point on Jeet spending lavishly on Raavi and ignoring Raashi's future
But really that is the way parents think.Paternal love is not like loafs of breads which can be equally divided into all children.If PJ care about Raavi so they do about Raashi and they can't divide their love in two for them.Rather it is double and so are there concerns and sufferings.
And they always believed in Raavi and never took her as less intellegent than Raashi

@ dmg & swets

U both raise valid points. V indians r spoiled by our parents as they try to give us everything whether v diserve it or not.

Jeet pinky should also look at raavi's ability to cope with studies . If she cant handle studies pressure or other type of ... Then what ? Parents r left with huge payments & raavi's looking for other courses .

One thing I sort of liked abt americans is they let kids take out student loans which they have to pay back once studies is over . This also maks them aware abt life long commitment to both studies & payments of loan . I have seen parents make contribution to loan & its in kids name so value able lesson.

To me seemed raashi is smarter than raavi . But as said before huge loan in raavi education is one thing but more than raashi , its sunny who gets the after math of 2 student loans

@dmg Yes. Parents love their kids and will do anything. If JP decides to spend on Raavi..they will do for Raashi too.

But let me tell u an incident. I know a family. They have 2 sons. First son did Engg thru free seat and wanted to do MS in US. The father took loan for around 20lakhs and sent his son. The son studies there but due to recession cud not get a job. Here the interest rates were shooting and the father had to sell his house to fix the loans. But still the loan remained. Now the 2nd son who also did Engg thru payment seat wanted to do MS in Singapore. There was a huge fight then. Parents ended up spending fr 2nd son also. And they were in huge financial crisis as the father reached retirement age. They are still paying loans. But both sons now are earning.

Now who is responsible for whatever happened. Sons or father?

@Nets Yes. If children want to study in big institutions they have to take up responsibility.

Here in the show, I dont find Raavi capable enough to crack those exams and handle the pressure in college henceforth. Raashi can do it. But again that will mean the parents are showing difference

I was thinking about making a thread for this topic, good that I found one.

Yes, education expenses have skyrocketed in recent times, even schools are much expensive nowadays. Almost seems impossible for a middle class person to provide good education to the kids. Medical field seems quite expensive, I mean 12 lakhs p.a. is huge! Engineering is not that expensive. MBA is expensive too. As already said, top government institutions are generally the best and have less fees too as compared to private institutions. But the main problem IMO is that they are much lesser in number than students, which results in a cutthroat competition. Government needs to do something for this too.

As to the dreams and money, one dreaming high should try their best to get admission in the government institutions. But still, they have such a scarcity of seats that only best of best can get admitted. And good private institutes are costly. In that case, they should take the education loan, which they can pay off later after job. Because educating 3 kids isn't an easy feat nowadays. Loan is the only option unless you are rich.

@FT Everyone wants to jump into Engineering now. Students dont even think whether they will be able to study properly. Parents dont think whether their child will become a good engineer or not.
Gone are the days where Student say I want to become engineer. Nowadays we here them say I want to study engineering in a big college. Can u see the difference.

Very few are able to live their dream. Even if the college fees is not huge..hostel fees, food and others do come up.

On what basis is education/student loan given? I seriously want to know.

@Shwets
It's sad what happened with that family.But if he did MS in US he should have got a job despite recessions had he been a good engineer but maybe he wasn't which brings me to ur other point that people madly enter engineering without knowing their intrests and most end up in such situations
