Chapter 9: The Proposal

Author's Note: This is a relatively shorter chapter, cause I didn't feel like mixing this along with the wedding because of its immense significance. Please join me in thanking my beta Soumya, for a wonderful job! This chapter is dedicated to all my friends at the adda, who convinced me not to stop this FF. Jenny, Tanu, Aanchal, Namrata, Geeta, Urmi, Usha, Pooja, Soumya and EVERYONE else at the adda, you guys ROCK! I'd also like to thank all those people who PMd me, and those of you who made accounts to specially interact with me.

(Anjali's house, Kanpur)

Navya laughed as she saw Anant getting reprimanded by Bua Dadi. She was absolutely delighted to be near him, even though she was not allowed to do so. It seemed as if God himself couldn't bear to see those two separated, which is why they were meant to meet at the same wedding!

"Didi, aapki mehendi ho gayi." said the girl who was doing Navya's mehendi.

"Thank You!"

Navya walked off from there, as Nimisha's mehendi had finished long ago. She was feeling really hungry, but since her hands were full of mehendi, there was nothing she could do except sit down in a corner, and wait to go home so that someone could feed her. As she sat down, her gaze fell on Gautam, who was feeding Renuka. She noticed that most of the husbands were feeding their wives, and those who were single had a friend or cousin to feed them. She wished that she was home, so she could have asked some of her cousins to feed her. But since this was an opportunity to be near Anant, she didn't mind at all, and she began to look around the room to find him.

Anant on the other hand had realised that Navya was not going to be able to eat because her hands were full of mehendi. Which was why he took a plate, and began to fill it up with all the food that he knew she liked. Once he'd done so, he found her sitting alone in a corner of the room, whilst staring at the mehendi in her hands and smiling. He walked over to her, and when he was near enough so she could hear him, he backed her and pretended to be eating, while he was actually talking.

"Navya, chalo mere saath."

"Anant! Koi humein dekh lega!"

"Navya, maine kaha chalo! Tum bas mere peeche peeche aa jaao." said Anant authoritatively. Whenever Anant spoke with such authority, Navya just couldn't bring herself to refuse anything that he said, so she hesitantly got up and followed him.

Anant led Navya to the back porch of the house, which was beautifully decorated. He led her to a swing, and asked her to sit down, as he tore a piece of roti, dipped it into some sabzi and tried to feed her. Navya was visibly surprised to see this.

"Anant! Yeh tum kya kar rahe ho?" asked Navya in astonishment.

"Tumhare haatho mein mehendi lagi hai naa? Toh tumhein khane mein takleef hogi naa? Lekin jab tum mere saath ho, tumhein koi takleef nahi hogi! Isiliye, main tumhe khana khila raha hoon." replied Anant sweetly, pushing the food in her mouth.

Navya opened her mouth to eat the morsel of food, all the while staring at him. As he was about to feed her another bite, he noticed that she was silently crying. He hurriedly kept the plate next to him and wiped his hands with some tissue, and inched closer to her, putting his arms around her.

"Kya hua Navya? Kyun ro rahi ho? Kisi ne tumse kuch kaha?" asked Anant rather worriedly.

"Anant, tum mujhse kitna pyaar karte ho! Mujhe bhooka bhi nahi dekh sakte!" sniffled Navya.

"Hey Bhagwaan! Kya karoon main is ladki ka?" said Anant with a laugh, as he pulled her closer to him. "Meri paagal ladki, tum sach mein kisi bhi cheez ke liye ro deti ho! Main apna vaada kaise nibhaaoon? Navya, main tumse pyaar karta hoon, aur yeh sab toh mera farz hai naa? Tumhare saath poori zindagi bitana chahta hoon, toh thodi practice abhi se kar raha hoon! Aur main hamesha se tumhe khana khilana chahta tha!" said Anant with a wink.

"Tumne kuch khaya?" sniffled Navya, as she slightly pulled away from him.

"Tum toh kha lo!"

"Nahi! Saath mein khate hain theek hai? Tum thoda khud khaao, thoda mujhe khilaao, theek hai?"

"Jaisa aap kahein Ma'am!" said Anant with a laugh, as he began to feed her again, while he too grabbed a few bites in the middle.

Both of them were laughing and talking, and just enjoying each other's company. Once the food was done, Anant kept the plate aside, wiped his hands and stood up, to Navya's surprise.

"Anant, jaa rahe ho?"

"Tumhare bina? Kabhi nahi! Voh main erm'" said Anant, hesitatingly.

"Kuch kehna hai Anant? Baith ke baat karte hai naa?" said Navya with a sweet smile on her face. To her immense shock, Anant went down on his knees.

"Anant! Yeh tum-" Navya was not allowed to complete her sentence as Anant covered her mouth with his hand.

"Mujhe bolne do Navya, phir tum bolo. Navya, tum jabse meri zindagi mein aayi, toh maano meri zindagi badal gayi. Mujhe nahi pata tha ki pyaar kya hota hai. Tumne mujhe pyaar karna sikhaaya. Tumse pyaar karke, meri jaan mein jaan aa gayi. Main zindagi se kuch nahi chahta tha. Ab sirf yeh chahta hoon ki tumhare saath har pal, har lamha bitaaoon. Bhagwaan se bas yeh hi maangta hoon ki tumhari aakhon mein kabhi aasoon naa aaye. Navya, main tumhare saath apni zindagi isiliye nahi bitaana chahta hoon kyuni main tumse beintehaan mohabbat karta hoon. Main tumhare saath zindagi isiliye bitaana chahta hoon kyunki tumhare bina ab main nahi jee sakta. Voh ek hafta, jab hum alag the, toh tum nahi jaanti main pal pal kitna tadpa hoon. Ab aur nahi tadapna chahta." said Anant in a low voice, as he pulled out a box from his pocket. Navya was staring at him, tears cascading down her face.

Anant reached up and wiped the tears from her face, and kissed her cheek.

"Navya Mishra, kya tum mujhe is duniya ki sabse badi khushi dogi? Kya tum mujhse shaadi karogi?" said Anant, as he opened the box, to reveal two very intricately designed bangles.

Navya was too shocked to even think of replying. Anant realised this and continued.

"Main nahi jaanta kab, kahaan aur kaise. Main sirf tumhe vaada kar raha hoon ki kuch bhi ho jaaye, main tumse shaadi karoonga. Yeh mere parivaar ke khandaani kangan hain. Ghar ke har bahu ke paas yeh hai. Maa, Chachi aur Bhabhi. Main yeh tumhe dena chahta hoon, is vishwaas se ki tum mujhse shaadi karogi."

*"Lekin Anant, koi nahi maanega!" said Navya with a smile, although she was still crying.

Anant wiped her tears and said in reply, "Tum maan jaao Navya, baaki poori duniya ko main mana loonga!"*

"Anant..main duniya ki sabse lucky ladki hoon, ki mere paas tum ho." said Navya while staring at Anant.

"Toh kya tum mujhse shaadi karogi?" said Anant in fear, cause she hadn't answered him yet.

Navya stood up, and so did Anant. She smiled at him and hugged him as tightly as she could, considering her hands were full of mehendi.

"Of COURSE main tumse shaadi karoongi, idiot!" said Navya gleefully, while not letting go of Anant.

Anant was absolutely delighted to hear that, and he hugged her even more tightly and lifted her up. Navya squealed when he did so and begged him to let her down, but he just seemed to twirl her around the place.

"Navya, tum nahi jaanti main KITNA khush hoon yeh baat sunke!" gushed Anant as he let Navya down. He pulled out the bangles and was about to put it on her hands, when she took a step back, much to Anant's astonishment.

"Anant, abhi nahi. Mere haathon mein mehendi hai. Kal, shaadi ke samay tum mujhe yeh pehnado, theek hai?"

"Theek hai! Lekin kal pakka! Aur haan Ma'am, apni mehendi to dikhaaye, jahaan pe aapne humare naam ka A likha hua hai?" said Anant with a wink.

Navya laughed and showed it to him saying, "Tumhe dhoondna padega!"

Anant laughed and pulled her down to sit with him. He put his arms around her waist and rested his head on her shoulder, as he closed his eyes and savored the moment. Navya laughed and kissed his cheek, which prompted him to hold her tighter.

At that very same moment however, Renuka came out and saw them.

"Navya! Anant! Tum dono ka dimaag kharab ho gaya hai kya? Aise yaahaan pe baith rahe ho? Agar koi aagaya, toh tum dono kya karoge? Accha hua main aagayi! Anant, abhi tumhari maa yaheen pe aa rahi thi, shukar maano ki maine tum dono ko yahaan pe aate hue dekh liya tha, aur Sugandha aunty ko main rok paayi. Ab yeh sab chodo, aur chalo! Navi, ghar nahi jaana kya?" said Renuka, as she severely reprimanded them.

Navya and Anant got up, gave each other a loving smile, as Navya left with Renuka. As she went out of the door, Navya turned back, smiled at Anant and blew him a kiss. Anant smiled to himself, as he realised he was going to marry the love of his life. With this thought in mind, he put the box his pocket and went out of the room.

Disclaimer: The two sentences written in between the two stars (*) have been taken from the episode where Anant proposes to Navya. I just LOVED that dialogue, so I had to put it in my proposal scene.
