And so the characters grow...!

Hey everyone!

After my couple weeks of hiatus, I was rather prompt to catch up with the opening episode for this week and what luck was I in!!!

(On a side note/observation, Navya as a show usually does very well on Monday episodes. Trend much?!)

Anyway, no digressing from my motivation to make this post, what appealed most to me in today's episode was the character evolution shown - not just with regard to Navya, and Anant, but by some happy miracle of a chance in the friend circle too!

Here's my individual take on the penta-gang (since the sixth member aka Harry went conveniently absconding after his Friday love-guru gyaan backfired with our genteel Bajpayee getting so 'hot' ☺️ πŸ˜† )

Anant - It's been coming to him, these last few episodes. Going from hyper boy mode with his new found exhilaration (in its many nuances) to the brief stint of angst and guilt on the BB court last night of picnic, to the retreating good boy in vain, to being re-hit by fresh guilt as the boy who bottom of bottom of his heart cares for the girl, to finally being pushed beyond his limit... Anant has shown a range of personalities, and even if not all have been as convincing, today was one of his best (kudos to Shaheer πŸ‘). When he had asked Navya to take the decision on behalf of them both - over his choice between love and family - he'd either truly not foreseen her own ever-pressing righteousness, or more likely, subconsciously chosen to believe she would make an exception for him, for them. Obviously then, her 'correct' answer to the problem caused him more heartbreak than he had prepared to deal with - a package of being turned down from the one quarter that he unknowingly presumes has no business being objective about this situation, cause she's half a part of his doomed love story! If principles still had that slimmest chance of getting to his conscience, Baba's proposal of wedding with Shagun (and the ultra bizarre funda on male-female bonding *creepy*) put his denial/resistance/'khud se ladai' as he calls it was shaken for good. The final catalyst was sight of Navya crying again, her friends and their solace for her forsaken. It was interesting, and very believable to watch today's version on Anant. Who has gone from being the boy who wants to remedy his overstepping of rules by simply turning his senses off to the repercussions, to realizing his battle within is quite in vain. And the fact that he can now see Navya in his shoes, being that right girl who wants to remedy the 'mistake' makes him realize faster than ever, how futile his attempts were - and in consequence comes his big question, can she be without him, how can she, if he can't! From the start of the show (or even the trailers) Anant was portrayed as the one who would possibly fight a lot more within to withstand this complication of love. And yet, as events unfold at such pace, it becomes exceedingly plausible to imagine a boy of 19 (after all still a teen) losing impositions and then fighting choices he'd rather never make. The journey of his maturity going for a toss, and then its abrupt return - and how! - and his current revelation about the extent of his feelings... at this point of the show, or more precisely after today's episode has actually shaped up appreciably. Here's hoping the evolution continues, cause there is obviously so much drama to come! πŸ˜‰

Navya - The jittery, self conscious introvert is not entirely lost. However successful Anant maybe, at bringing Navya out of her self imposed shell, at most junctures, or all that matter anyway, she has withdrawn. On the 'bridge of love and hug', when she confessed enjoying his company, it was like a spell on her, which broke, and even though it left trace of a happy feeling, the bold moment did pass. The bolder act of breaking into boys dorm, pecking Anant... and the boldest of all given her person, responding to his note and meeting with him, and their moments of intimacy - Navya has always fought between the two halves of herself, one which wants it all to happen, and one that fears too much. From the beginning to now, she has never had one entire sequence of just letting go, the way Anant has accomplished in brief spells. Perhaps part of it is attributed to her being a girl. But the greatest part of it is on account of Navya, being Navya! For me, the best part of today's episode in terms of her character growth was how she put forth her precise feelings - however juvenile its terms maybe, they were again, from a mere over protected 19 year old - and then putting forth a genuine logic to her correct decision, even as the half of her which wants to be rid of norms still throbs inside! When she first got back to his long venting session with a mujhe ghar chod do, I half flipped assuming she was going to deny him sound reasoning, and just play the silent brooding sacrificing dumb girl again... but her elaboration of the matter, of telling him what mattered to her, how he mattered, how she had been too spell bound to see the big picture... very well done to the CVs, and the actors! πŸ‘ If I'd enjoyed the girls getting back on track last Friday, especially Navya's stint of explaining her side, explaining not justifying, today was cherry on the top. Unlike Anant, now that she is in the remedying position, she isn't just playing ostrich, but actually looking the matter square face and trying to deal with it. And even if her attempts shall be in vain in the future, she will always have proven herself an edge better than Anant in problematic situations. The weaker one who breaks down and succumbs, yet the stronger one in the real sense of resolving, and resolving 'correctically'!

Appy/Ritz - The first half of today's episode was bang on for these two. Appy, the 'crack' friend, as Ritz calls her, who can flare up with crazy tempers, and get fiercely loyal when it comes to the other side; while Ritz, the concerned, protective, but less impulsive friend. While Appy was absolutely no-no about giving Anant a chance, Ritz actually entertained the possibility that Navya may actually want to have a conversation with Anant. It was interesting to watch the difference in their defense of Navya, against Anant who they are both convinced has wronged her. Then, oddly, was the second stint Appy - Ritz, where suddenly, the roles were reversed. I found it a little hard to believe there - Ritz getting skeptical again, fine. But Appy actually theorizing in favor of the chat, er...! I might have sooner believed Appy getting into mild fireworks, muttering strange cusses for Anant and angrily wondering if he was going to dare hurt Navya again... while Ritz, internally as skeptical as Appy, trying to explain to her, exactly what Appy did in the episode. My opinion anyway... still, I'm going to complain very little, because I'm actually happy the friends are moving beyond just fillers and actually finding substance to their existence in the show in a soundly productive way. Over the last 3 episodes or so, the friend-bonds in this show have surfaced well, yay to that! πŸ˜ƒ

Ranbir - Does anyone else find this guy so awesome?! 😳 Like really! I absolutely dote on the way his character grows a little bit yet significantly more with nothing more than tit bit scenes and possibly, the least dialog. From being the one who threw Anant a challenge of falling in and out of love, to being love struck at the picnic, wording his wish of freedom in life... from being the caring boyfriend, to being the calm support of a friend, to not just Anant, but indirectly Navya as well... Ranbir and his quiet ways have the making of everything a side hero should have - even a lead, if for a moment this story wasn't AnYa-based! He's the kind who will not get into arguments with any of the involved parties, yet, in his solemn ways urge his friend, his girlfriend, and whoever else, to do the right thing. He's that man of few words, who will take only a sentence to make his point, and in the least aggressive of ways! Yeh, you figure, I'm a high pro-veto on this character! And the actor, while we're at it, who does a fine job with the little space he manages to scarp for himself.

And phewww! that's to my long essay, lol! Happens, when ones been away from venting about TV shows and such for a fortnight πŸ˜† If you read and agree/disagree, do chip in your two cents!

*edit* - did I forget to say what a relief it was to not have nosy/annoying/passive family members feature in today's episode - wohooo!

Your post saved me the trouble of writing one on today's episode..You basically said everything I wanted to say and much more!!πŸ˜›
Seriously speaking when Anant was shown falling for Navya I thought the creatives are hell bent on ruining his character by making him look so "high on candy"..But looking at his actions ever since his epiphany in the picnic I have to say Anant's character has evolved beautifully over the course of the episodes..It all looked a bit OTT during the initial love phase, but then again young love is supposed to be like that only..Anant has taken huge steps towards Navya and away from his principles recently..Telling her he can't live without her, saying his family won't understand their love for one another..He does not blame himself for falling for her any more..He knows what's happened between him and Navya is not a mistake..That is huge development..πŸ˜ƒ
Navya will shine when her moment comes..She has always been like that hasn't she? Always seems like the coward, meek one in the relationship but the majority of bravery has come from her side..When time comes she will tackle both her relationship with Anant and her family beautifully..There's one thing I really wanna see in the storyline..We know Anant has to fight his family for his love..But I want Navya's famly to understand her feelings, I want them to realize falling in love is not a sin..I actually want them to support her..That would actually be refreshing to see..
Again absolutely beautifully written post..Do post more often..πŸ˜›

Hey there, JZee! 😊 I'm Aimin.

Firstly, can I just say yes, yes and yes to everything you have written? πŸ˜† Reading this was pure pleasure and food for the brain. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the characters. 😊 & here's my (additional) 2 cents of it.

Here's my individual take on the penta-gang (since the sixth member aka Harry went conveniently absconding after his Friday love-guru gyaan backfired with our genteel Bajpayee getting so 'hot' ☺️ πŸ˜† ) Have you noticed frequent breaks on Harry's part? He was MIA during the engagement as well. Frankly, I don't miss him much even though he fired up Mr. Bajpayee, as much as I love it when Anant takes on the avatar of the angry young man (and I love it so!). Raged Anant is quite irresistable. 😳

You're spot on about the character development of everyone in the gang. Now that I reflect on it, pretty much everyone on the show has matured beautifully, character-wise speaking---everyone, that is, except our resident psycho Baba.
& the crazy Banaras duo.
Don't even get me started on them.
...Oh well... pretty much more than half of Anant's family is utterly nuts and no one can do anything to save them. Whole lot of narrow-minded people. But let them be. At the moment, I feel like rejoicing after watching today's amazing episode. πŸ˜†

The whole car scene played out realistically. Cliche, yes, to an extent considering the dialogue, but yet was unbelievably refreshing. I'm interested to see how these 2 are going to approach the situation now that they both have started to feel that nothing can be done to make things better and no decision is going to satisfy everyone. It's the most heartbreakingly darndest thing to watch, them having to battle with their love for each other and love for their respective families.

A lot of people are saying that Navya and Anant are no more the same people that we saw in the trailers. I humbly beg to differ to this. On one hand is Anant, warring with himself and all the things that he has believed in probably for as long as he can remember, while on the other hand is Navya, introverted and gentle, whose father is scared that she has been subdued into submission.
But we know his fear is unfounded.
She will always have proven herself an edge better than Anant in problematic situations. So true!
Isn't it slightly ironic (& very intriguing) that Papa ka Navya has more sense in the most dire of situations than Guru Baba's traditionally brought up Anant? In the heat of the moment, when they nearly got carried away with their emotions and almost kissed, Navya pushed him away just in the nick of time. & again today, one would think that they would turn to each other for some sort of comfort, ANY comfort, in the deeply hurt state they were in. Whatever the situation, Navya still didn't let his hand rest on hers.
Can it still be said that love changed them (in an incredibly short period of time btw, and the argument stands anyway), that they're not the same people anymore?

All these little things and their selflessness today show that they are in essence still the Anant and Navya of 2 months ago who are, though, on the way to becoming adults and making life-changing decisions all by themselves.
Here's hoping the evolution continues, cause there is obviously so much drama to come! πŸ˜‰ Cheers to that! πŸ˜†

Also, another lovely touch to the pair's characters: The beating around the bush when they talk about love (or approach it, anyway). The 'I love you' moment still hasn't come. I actually like the fact that they haven't come around to profusely professing their feelings for each other even if they now have to make this hard decision. Some people don't really verbalise everything that comes to mind and given the fact that Navya and Anant are more on the silent side, maybe this is more appropriate and suitable for their personalities. The slightly awkward, halted confessions with now averted, then stolen glances are much more endearing.

Coming to Appy and Ritz., initially I thought they were going to be wall flowers and like you, I was pleasantly surprised to see them (and Ranbir) gradually becoming more of substance. I'm going to say this, though, I hated Appy in the previous week, which was probably her function there. Hate-inducer. >_>
Same here. But, truly, ignorance is bliss. πŸ˜†

I think I should stop my lengthy rant here. O_O
After I mention Ranbir, of course.
Agree to everything you said about him.πŸ˜† I thought Anant was going to be the man of few words in the show but considering how wordy he has become recently, the title officially goes to Ranbir.

Anyway, who wouldn't love a strong, silent man? Count me in on the Ranbir love, he is such a sweetheart! 😳

Looking forward to more posts from you!

While part of his OTT phase was easy to put by as 'boys will be boys', there were sections which either lacked quality script, or quality execution and fell short. But looking back now, to me, the overall development seems like a plan, like the CVs weren't just hitting flukes, which is quite honestly much relief. Too many shows get sacrificed at the altar of TRP's and public demands!

Anant has taken huge steps towards Navya and away from his principles recently..Telling her he can't live without her, saying his family won't understand their love for one another..He does not blame himself for falling for her any more..He knows what's happened between him and Navya is not a mistake..That is huge development..πŸ˜ƒ Yup, huge is one word (: I don't think its been a jump though - unlike his high on candy phase as you call the previous one. This was building up since the BB court night, from all consequent times that he chose to avoid and hurt her, and from all the Baba sessions... The absolute high point of the episode today was watching both of them get all their truth out of their system, even sans the traditional I Love You!

Navya will shine when her moment comes..She has always been like that hasn't she? Always seems like the coward, meek one in the relationship but the majority of bravery has come from her side..When time comes she will tackle both her relationship with Anant and her family beautifully..There's one thing I really wanna see in the storyline..We know Anant has to fight his family for his love..But I want Navya's famly to understand her feelings, I want them to realize falling in love is not a sin..I actually want them to support her..That would actually be refreshing to see.. aah! that is one side to it. I wonder what it would be like if a reasonable man like Navya's dad (for all his concerned inhibitions) tries to reason it out with the likes of Center Shock Baba and his equally pissing rigid elder son aka Anant's dad.
Again absolutely beautifully written post..Do post more often..πŸ˜›

Thank you for your comment - appreciated much! And I shall strive to post, as and when the episode compels. Hopefully, that can be often enough!!!

Hey Devika,

Thank you so much for the comment, and I'm glad you liked my post (:

You're right about the way Navya as a show delves into the most routine of relations and brings out the all-too-familiar nuances of them - its the repetitive deja vu feeling! And although, I'm not always on the same page with the CVs, I have to admit their efforts have been decent enough by far. Especially after today's episode, I feel like they have a plan, and that is much solace!

Again, thank you for dropping by (:

Raged Anant is quite irresistable. 😳 - aah! That now is a generic statement, if you ask me. Raged heroes (often synonymous forms of alpha males) are the most bewitching of the male species πŸ˜† Well, when one isn't in the direct line of fire!

You're spot on about the character development of everyone in the gang. Now that I reflect on it, pretty much everyone on the show has matured beautifully, character-wise speaking---everyone, that is, except our resident psycho Baba.

Don't even get me started on them. - oh geez yes. Today was happy sans them. 🀒 although, Center Shock Baba is an awesome psycho. Like awesome. He creeps me out of his place in the screen, even more than vulnerable An-Ya move me! But lets leave it at that
...Oh well... pretty much more than half of Anant's family is utterly nuts and no one can do anything to save them. Whole lot of narrow-minded people. But let them be. At the moment, I feel like rejoicing after watching today's amazing episode. πŸ˜†

The whole car scene played out realistically. Cliche, yes, to an extent considering the dialogue (ditto you) but yet was unbelievably refreshing. It's the most heartbreakingly darndest thing to watch, them having to battle with their love for each other and love for their respective families. Exactly. Speculations for what to expect ahead are many, and I hope the CVs will serve that cause well. Rebellion has to come sooner or later, I hope there can be conviction in portraying it. That's not the end. If and when Navya does actually become a part of the psycho Bajpayee home, the journey thereon will be hell ride part 2!!! But that's a major if and when.

A lot of people are saying that Navya and Anant are no more the same people that we saw in the trailers. I humbly beg to differ to this. I don't disagree with the changes in the two lead characters from when the promos were first aired, but technically, I believe that's the whole point. Showing the change in them, with time, and more importantly, with situations. They have changed, for good/bad depending entirely on perspective, but either way, they haven't come to belie the big picture of who they are. Its only the surfacing of latent nuances of them, with their advent in each others life. Simple, and believable, as that!

All these little things and their selflessness today show that they are in essence still the Anant and Navya of 2 months ago who are, though, on the way to becoming adults and making life-changing decisions all by themselves.

Thanks for pointing it out. I realize I didn't make explicit mention of the same, but I'll say now belatedly, that I did notice as much, with your kind of approval too. This is not their I love you moment or situation. This is their confronting and testing time. And much more than the three magical words, will be a more precise and candid admission of their intentions, to serve their cause... The I Love You can be saved for a happier day, whenever! πŸ˜†

>_> ... LOL @ hate inducer. Sure, she was being a tick, but I reckon that was the purpose. I have to admit I'm not sure why that was necessary. She could be possessive/imposing without being more than occasionally dumb, with abrupt sparks of brightness! In that respect, today was a breath of fresh air - to the extent, that we (you and me, and maybe others) had a hard time dealing with her sudden burst of wisdom, lol!
