Chapter 6

After having her lunch in the canteen Avni completely forgot about the note thanks to srishty bak bak
She returned back to her cabin and sat down and was about to log in to her laptop when the peon came to tell her that vidyut is waiting for her in his cabin

Avni: ok u go

Avni quickly saved her presentation on the USB and headed to vidyut cabin.

Vidyut who was busy talking to one of his client on the phone saw Avni walking in and gestured her to sit down

She waited for him to finish and till then took his laptop to load the presentation from her USB

Once vidyut finished he got up from his seat and moved to sit down next to Avni.

Avni: I managed to finish the presentation but with the last slide I'm not quite sure

Vidyut: let's check it together he said loading the first slide and both were discussing while vidyut was telling Avni the other information she could add in other slides

Avni: perfect I'll do the changes then

Vidyut: not now

Avni: y?

Vidyut: because Juhi just called and she wants u to meet up with her and also ali had asked u girls to help him with the things for the reunion

Avni: but it's only 2pm

Vidyut: I know but u know we can't rely on traffic.

Avni: ok ok I'm going stop with all the excuses as I no u can't say no to juhi since she is your boss She said hitting his arms playfully

Avni called Juhi who told her to meet at Ali cafe.

Vidyut saw Avni leave the office and made a call to Dd

Vidyut: Dd Avni has left she will probably meet Juhi at Ali cafe

Dd: ok I will leave in a bit but Vidyut?

Vidyut: I know what u want to say he said cutting Dd off

Dd: y r u doing this all of a sudden

Vidyut: because Juhi is hiding something and Avni has told her she can't let me know. If they r hiding something means it's not a small thing

Dd: ok I will see what I can do

Vidyut: Dd?

Dd: don't worry I won't tell anyone it's between me and u he said smiling.

Vidyut: thanks yaar.

Avni and Juhi were sitting at ali cafe while he was busy serving customers.

Juhi: avni last night vidyut asked what we were talking about in mishti room

Avni was a little shocked

Avni: how did he know

Juhi: because of mishti but luckily mishti didn't hear us clearly and told vidyut something else

Avni: what did she tell him

Juhi: about how i told u that I was going to call u and inform u that Neil has came

Avni: thank god.. both unaware that mishti has told vidyut something else

Avni: I received a note again today

Juhi: what did it say

Avni told Juhi what the note said

Juhi: Avni we somehow need to figure out who this person is I mean u have been receiving these type of notes since second year of college and u still continue to receive it after all these years

Avni: its not easy this person writes different address on the parcels that i use to receive and whenever I go to that address i only get one answer and that is nobody sent a parcel from the given address.

Dd who had reached to the cafe in a disguised look was hearing Avni and Juhi talk

Ali: so girls what were u talking about he said joining Avni and Juhi

Avni: about when u and Riya r getting married.

Ali: u seem to be in a hurry

Avni: of course I wouldn't want u to make my sister wait for so long

Dd left from there and went outside the cafe he called vidyut and told him whatever he heard.

Once cutting the call vidyut decided to ask the receptionist if Avni received any parcel or envelop but he stopped thinking what if anyone tells Avni that he was enquiring

He left his cabin and went to Avni cabin and closed the door without anyone knowing

Vidyut: Avni received a note as Dd said he started to check her drawer and table but there was no luck.. although Dd told him what avni had told Juhi that was written in the note he wanted to check himself

He stood there with his hands on his hips when his eyes fell in the dustbin which had nothing but a scrunched up paper he took it out and opened it to see that it was the same note that Dd mentioned about

Vidyut: what r u hiding AM

At 5 ali had closed the cafe early as it was time him and his friends will have a get together after a long time Avni Juhi and Riya had decided to make snacks while Dd had came and was talking to Ali

Avni : I'll go and place these bowls outside
Avni left to go

Riya: ok. Juhi pass me the cheese please

Juhi: here

Avni came out with the bowl and went to place it on the table. when she turned around she bumped into Neil and was about to lose her balance but Neil caught her on time holding her by her waist... both were in a dip position lost in looking at each other... completely forgetting their surroundings.. Neil was about to lift his hand to move a strand of hair from Avni face when their moment got broken by mishti

Mishti: ANGEL!!

Hearing mishti voice avneil came out of their staring mode and Neil pulled Avni up

Avni: thanks she said without looking at Neil and quickly went to mishti while Neil looked at avni walking away and thinking about what happened few secs ago.

Meanwhile in the kitchen

Riya: Juhi how do u think Avni and Neil will behave with each other as they r going to meet so many years since their break up

Juhi: Avni and Neil already met yesterday at my place. Vidyut bought Neil to our place to give me a surprise and after that Avni came

Riya: omg it must have been awkward for both right. Did they speak to each other

Juhi: kind of but both did say hello to each other. Riya nodded to see Avni walking in with mishti

Riya: mishtuuu baby she said running to mishti and picked her up kissing her cheeks.

Juhi: bacha who bought u here

Mishti: I came with papa and that uncle who came to our house yesterday.

Juhi and Riya looked at avni

Riya: Avni u ok

Avni: Haan I'm fine she said faking a smile.
Her heart was still beating fast still thinking about how Neil had held her to stop her from falling while her hands were on his shoulder.

Ali: my lovely girls come on vidyut and Neil have also come

Riya: just need to garnish this last dish and then done.

Meanwhile Dd and Neil hugged

Dd: long time Neil it's great to have u back he said breaking the hug while Neil just smiled at him.

Neil: thanks yaar... how is your detective agency going?

Dd: all good yaar.. by the way I must say these stubble actually suit u...now I'm the only one left in our group he said to see vidyut and Neil Laughing at him

Riya came out followed by Juhi, ali and mishti who was in ali arm while avni came out .. all sat down Avni regretted when she casually looked up to see Neil sitting opposite her.

Ali: so finally our group is complete after a long time

Dd: exactly thanks to Neil we all got time to meet otherwise one of us could never make it due to our schedule.

Juhi: Haan u r one of them as u r too busy been a detective.. Dd smiled when Juhi said that and looked at vidyut from the corner of his eyes.

Ali: aur madam u? Don't see u at the cafe that often he said looking at avni

Avni: what can I do my boss gives me a lot of work that I hardly get time.

Vidyut: oh really? He said raising his eyebrows at Avni while she gave a cheeky smile.

Dd: so Neil how is your business going in abroad

Neil: pretty much well.

Riya: u r planning to stay back right

Neil: for now yes

All this while avni kept herself busy with mishti as she was trying to avoid any type of communication with Neil

Mishti: I want juice and cookies

Juhi: I will go and get it

Avni: no u sit I will go and get it for her she said getting up while Juhi sat back down. All got busy talking

Avni was pouring orange juice in a glass when she heard the person who she was trying to avoid

Neil: Avni?

Avni was getting juice for mishti when she heard Neil call out her name. At first she stiffened but slowly she took small deep breaths and turned around slowly

Avni: do u want anything from here...She said trying to speak normally although from inside she was really nervous

Neil: no

Avni was about to turn around again when she heard Neil speak.

Neil : can we talk?

Avni looked at Neil

Avni: about?

Neil: about u and me he said straight forwardly

Avni: ok... Avni was surprised she was about to say no but blurted out yes and cursed herself in her head.

For the past 5 mins both were sitting near the pond and finally Neil broke the silence

Neil: Avni I know things didn't end well in the Past...After our break up we didn't communicate that much except me asking u what was the reason

Avni: Neil y r u brining thi... but she couldn't continue as Neil interrupted

Neil: no let me complete it has been so many years since we broke up. We both r mature and have moved on somewhere in life. I agree that u broke up when I never wanted to and after that there was no communication between us two since u came back to Mumbai.

Avni: come straight to the point Neil. Neil smiled from inside as somewhere Avni still knew him well enough

Neil: we both could behave cordially right. Just because we broke up years ago doesn't mean we should be uncomfortable around each other...We could still be friends just like before.

Avni in her head: what do I do god if I say no then it would surely raise doubts in everyone mind as to y I don't want to have any type of contact with Neil and if I'm close to Neil then... no no I can't let that happen maybe maintaining a cordial relation would be better all I will have to do is keep my distance

Avni: I guess u r right. We r mature enough and could at least maintain a cordial relation she said coming out of her thoughts.

Neil: I thought it would be hard to convince u

Avni: y? She blurted out

Neil: don't mind but u were the one to break up so thought u wouldn't want anything to do with me.

Avni: and u? She said in a trance. Neil turned to look at avni... both continued to look at each other. For a sec Neil felt like it was the old Avni in front of him. He looked away

Neil: First yes I somehow wanted to be in contact with u. The break up had affected me.. I was just not able to come in terms with the reason u gave for the break up( its mentioned in the intro part if anyone doesn't remember) .. but slowly i realised I can't just sulk I had my family and friends who were concerned about me and somehow moved on.

Avni felt a sting in her heart which bought her out of her trance when Neil said that

Avni in her head: if only I could tell u how hard it was for me to see u in that state

Neil: but past is past right we both have moved on in our life he said looking at avni again to see her lost in thoughts

Avni felt butterflies in her stomach just with a mere touch of Neil hand on her shoulder she looked at him

Neil: what happened?

Avni: nothing. So um it's all sorted right

Neil:. Yes I just had to let this out as I didn't want any type of uneasiness between us.

Avni: hmm... she said getting up to leave while Neil watches her walk away

Neil (to himself): when I held u from falling for a sec I saw some type emotions in your eyes which use to be there for me when we were dating.. and right now your words were saying something else and eyes were saying another story ...y am i getting a weird feeling that u have something big hidden inside u

Meanwhile at the table

Dd: what do u think ..would they have spoken?

Vidyut: I guess so Neil said he wanted to make things clear with AM

Ali: in a way it's best if they talk and forget about the past.

Riya: it must be hard for Neil as he never wanted to break up with Avni as it took him a while to cope up with the break up

Juhi: it was not easy for Avni too she blurted out which made everyone look at her surprisingly especially vidyut

Juhi: I mean I agree she broke up with Neil but even for her making that decision would have been hard right she said

Dd: that is true also.. Juhi breathed a sigh of relief which didn't go unnoticed by vidyut.

Vidyut: whatever it is when they come back let's not ask them anything as it
May make things awkward between them

Avni stopped for a sec she felt as if Neil was saying something to her. She wanted to turn around and look at him but dropped the idea and walked back to where the others were sitting

Neil also got up and walked quickly and soon was behind Avni

Dd: look here they come. Both sat down in their seats

Ali: ok so I'm going to make an announcement

Neil: what announcement.

Ali: I'm planning to Marry Riya

Riya eyes popped out

Riya: what...what ..did...did u just say

Ali: that im planning to marry u

Riya: babes please pinch me she said to Avni

Avni rolled her eyes and pinched riya

Riya: u seriously want to marry me?

Ali: no I just said it like that he said
rolling his eyes

Riya :aliii

Ali: of course yaar

Riya: without any proposal

Ali: what is there to propose we both love each other and planned to get married some day

At that time neil looked at avni

Flashback

Neil: avni

Avni: hmmm she said caressing neil hair reading a book while he was laying on her lap

Neil: how would u like your proposal to be

Avni: what? She said moving the book away and looked at Neil

Neil: well after few years time I plan to propose u and to make it the best proposal its important to know how u would want to be proposed

Avni: neil we r only in the first year of college and u r thinking about all of this.

Neil: so its not a crime to plan for the future right he said getting up and sat facing her

Avni: no its not but... she said stretching on the word 'but' with a naughty smile

Neil: what but

Avni: but what if I don't want to marry u I mean just imagine if I find someone else much better or my family don't agree with our relation she said getting up hiding the naughty smile

Neil: oh madam I am not going to let someone take u away from me and about convincing your family that is not a hard thing I can win their hearts easil he said getting up

Avni: really?

Neil: really he said pulling avni closer to him

Avni: neil?

Neil: hmm he said stroking her cheeks with his nose

Avni: even if you propose in a simple way that would be the best proposal for me she said wrapping her arms around his neck.

Neil: but I will try and make it the best proposal

Avni: i know it would be the best proposal as u will be with me

Neil: and also the one to propose u

Avni: nei...

Neil: shh he said not letting her complete

Neil looked at avni in the eyes and then at her lips and avni knew what he wanted and closed her eyes. Neil took that as a signal and closed the gap between their lips.

Flashback end

Ali: neil r u listening NEIL ... NEIL

Neil: uh sorry what were u saying he said coming back to present and looked at everyone looking at him along with avni

Ali: where were u lost have been calling u for a long time

Neil: sorry was just thinking about something from the past. he said looking at ali and this time avni looked at neil knowing he was remembering their moment

Ali: see this mad girl wants me to propose I mean think I directly asked her to marry me and she still wants me to propose

Vidyut: so propose what is a big deal in that

Ali: big deal? There is no big deal

Riya: then propose after that I will say yes

Ali: fine if this is the case then wait for my proposal.

Misthi: mama I want to sleep. Juhi took mishit and placed her head on her shoulder patting her back.

Riya: lets see how well your proposal is

Avni: can we change the topic please u can continue your proposal talk in private she said rubbing her forehead

Dd: how about we play truth and dare

Riya:nooo

Ali: yaar if mishti was awake then I would have played the music but can't do that as it will disturb her sleep.

Riya recieved a call from Ashish

Riya : hey chachu what's up

Ashish: hey beta I tried calling Avni but her phone kept going on voicemail so thought to call u to tell u that let all your friends knows that it's Neela bday the day after tommorw and all r invited

Riya: ok chachu I will let all know. Shall I give the phone to Avni ?

Ashish: Haan

Riya gave the phone to Avni

Avni: Haan papa

Ashish : Avni y is your phone going on voice mail

Avni checked her phone to find it switched off and when she tried turning it on she saw the low battery sign before it went blank again

Avni: papa didn't realise my phone battery died

Ashish: u seriously need some scolding on how to save your battery and only your maa can do that in a better way . It's good that u r with your friends otherwise if u were alone god knows how worried we would have been

Avni smiled at Ashish concern

Avni: sorry papa promise from next time will keep it fully charged. By the way y did u call

Ashish : I told Riya and u will get to know when she tells all your friends now enjoy see u later on

Avni: bye

Ashish: bye

Avni gave the phone back to Riya

Riya: guys days after Tommrorow is Neela Chachi bday and Ashish chachu wants all of u and I mean all of u to come for the party.. right Avni she said looking at all

Avni: hmm

Dd: of course we will be there

Avni: we will let u know the time of the party

Riya: look at this we all were talking that we didn't realise how the snacks have almost finished

Juhi: proves that we all had a great time

Vidyut: I think we al should go as we have work the next day and also let's keep a track to meet up often now

Ali: absolutely we all got a chance to meet thanks to Neil coming back and now we will meet at Neela Aunty's bday party

Vidyut texted Dd

And Dd looked at the message to see it say
"Find out who this person is that keeps sending notes to Avni

He looked at vidyut and nodded.

Neil saw the exchange between vidyut and Dd and found something odd.

Meanwhile at a place a man was sitting on a chair when someone came into the room

Guy: boss I got news that all of them r at Ali cafe and Neil khanna is back

Hearing Neil's name the man who was sitting on the chair looked at the guy

Boss: u sure about that

Guy: 100% boss he said showing his phone where he took pics secretly

The boss smiled Evily seen how Avni was no where sitting near Neil

Boss: that's like my girl keeping her promise of staying away from Neil khanna. He smirked.

Guy: now what shall we do?

Boss: keep an eye on them... the guy nodded and left the room

The boss who was in the room walked towards the wall and caressed
a big potrait which was of Avni.
