Part 13
Neil held Avni by the arms and made her sit on the side of the pool. He himself sat near her. Everyone else were in the living room and curtains were drawn to hide the poolside.
Avni kept looking at Neil with impatient eyes. She was urging him to speak up quickly. There was a time when Neil was thinking of how to begin and Avni just shook him hard as if that would spill the beans. But he is not a bean stalk so forget it.
"Avni.." Neil started but stopped as soon as Ali entered.
"Wow Avni. We are here to meet you but you are still busy... " Both of them stood up at the sound of Ali.
"Ali we were just talking." Neil tried to reason out. Though he had a neutral look Avni knew how frustrated he would be, because this was the third time they tried to talk and again another disturbance had to make it's way to them.
"Neil you guys can talk later. For now, I am taking Avni along. Come!" Saying this he pulled her by the wrist and turned around but Avni didn't move an inch from her spot.
"Ali please! I don't want to go right now. Leave us alone." Avni didn't want to hurt her bestfriend. She spoke against her heart knowing that it would hurt Ali. But there was no way she would involve so many people in her complicated situations.
"Okay Avni. As you wish!" Within seconds Ali was out of sight. Avni grabbed Neil's hand and started running upstairs. Neil followed Avni without taking back his hand. A faint smile was on his face, watching the antics of his wifey. They came straight to their bedroom and Avni closed the door. Neil was standing inside the room still smiling and watching her, hands crossed near his chest.
After locking the door, Avni turned around to see Neil and was staring at him. After which she said "What happened? Why are you staring at me like that?" Avni made a face and moved towards the couch passing across him.
"First you scold your bestfriend. Then you grab me by my hand. Then you run. Then you come to this room. I mean OUR bedroom. And then you close the door. On top of that you lock the door..." Neil who wasn't done talking was cut off by a very anxious Avni.
"What are you trying to say?!!" Neil tried to suppress his laughter and said.
"I am scared Avni. Will I be able to leave this room with my full dignity?" He could hardly finish the sentence as he burst into fits of laughter. He dropped on to the bed and was trying hard to control but he just couldn't. Avni was standing at the edge of the bed, her eyes widened and hands on the hips.
"Neil! What are you..." Avni sat on the bed sighing.
"Let me see, let me see!" Neil stopped laughing now and himself sat beside Avni and turned around her face towards him.
"Wifey! I thought blush was used only on cheeks. Not on the whole face." Again, the room filled with Neil's laughter. This time Avni also smiled a bit. But then her smile vanished as soon as she remembered what they had to discuss.
"Neil. Stop laughing and tell me about everything that happened in the last four months. Please."
Neil was about to speak when they heard a knock on the door.
"Damnit!" Neil was beyond frustrated now. He was fed up of people disturbing. He even questioned god about it. He jerked out of the bed to make the other person literally remember their grandma. Avni tried to stop him but he had already opened the door.
"What is wrong with everyone in this house? Disturbing..." Neil's tongue tied. Avni's eyes moistened. The person who "disturbed" them now was none other than Aman.
"Aman! .. Amol" Avni was so happy to see him she clearly said Aman but then corrected herself instantly in a lowered voice but was still audible to both Neil and Aman. Aman was standing with his gaze lowered. Face was nearly buried in his chest and he stood at the door like some frightened student stands infront of the principal.
"Come in Aman" Neil broke the ice. Avni was surprised to see Neil addressing him as Aman and Aman not reacting at all at it.
Aman took baby steps inside and stopped in the middle of the room his gaze still hesitant to meet his sister's. Avni was standing near the bed observing Aman carefully before making way slowly towards him.
As she approached him, Aman fidgeted in his position as if telling that he can't do this. He was on the verge of crying. She came and touched his cheeks. Tears were threatening to flow out from her eyes as well.
"Amm..an" was what she could say. He hugged her tightly and cried. She cried with him. They both fell on to the ground and cried.
"I was a very bad person. I was bad. Very bad. But I am not a demon." Aman spoke what was in his heart. He admitted all the bad he had done blindly following his grandma, but as they say good and bad are both inside a person, his heart didn't want to get the tag of a "raakshas". He wronged many people but still he wanted to rectify it. That was enough for Avni who was more than happy to get her brother back. Eventhough he did not call her sister, she knew he believed it and he would definitely say it someday.
Neil who was watching all this even felt a pain pricking his heart. But he was content to see happiness behind Avni's tears. Aman felt a bit embarrassed after he gathered himself and stood up. He excused himself as soon as he realized what he did.
Avni looked at Neil. Their eyes spoke for several minutes before Avni took steps forward.
"Is this what you did while I wasn't here? You did everything alone?" Avni sounded calm. But Neil was not sure of what her reaction to all this would be. He knew she understood everything once Aman came to the room. She wasn't showing any emotions. Her face was wet with tears from before but her look was neutral.
"I am sorry Avni. It was your battle. But she planned to kill you and.." Neil unknowingly said the only thing Avni was oblivious to.
"She did what?" His eyes widened. He knew how much Avni would be hurt by that. But there was no going back now.
"Your accident wasn't an accident Avni. It was a planned set up to kill you and the master mind was Dayawanti Mehta." Avni was dumbfounded. Her hands were stuck to Neil's chest and with each passing second his shirt was getting crumpled in her hands. He didn't stop her from doing that. Instead he let her absorb the sudden news because he knew she would later emerge stronger than ever.
