part 2;
not the best writing but i’m a little tired, wanted to get the next part up though. i promise we’ll end with a bang, or at least try to?
Veer didn’t want to argue with Bani for two reasons: one, she was not well and two, he felt nice that she wanted him. Bani was willingly asking him to sleep next to her and he wasn’t going to say no. Veer went to his side of the bed and lied down, “Bani I’m here, I’m not going anywhere. Get some more rest, we have the Navratri party tonight.” Bani nodded and slept facing away from Veer but after some time, she couldn’t get sleep as she kept worrying about him and the dream she saw. She turned over to look at Veer who was sleeping on his back, wide awake, thinking. Bani scooted closer to him and Veer noticed her coming closer, wanting to sleep in his embrace. Veer lifted his arms and enveloped her in, as she put her head on his chest. Veer was filled with so much joy, Bani suddenly warming up to him meant so much to him but he was still unsure if this was her or the effect of the ras.
“What are you thinking about?” Bani asked him, almost whispering.
“You. I’m always thinking about you Bani. But tell me, what’s on your mind?”
“You.”
“That’s a lie.”
“I wouldn’t be here, right next to you, if you weren’t on my mind.”
“Why am I on your mind?”
“I’m worried,” Bani said, now whispering.
“About what? Does this have anything to do with the dream you had?” Veer asked concerned.
“I’m sorry I didn’t realize you were gone sooner. I’m sorry I didn’t come to save you. I’m sorry for what you had to go through,” Bani said dodging the question.
Veer played with her hair, “You have nothing to apologize for. You didn’t do anything.”
“Who did?” Bani asked wanting answers.
“You won’t believe me. Besides, I like having you here and if I told you, you’d be upset with me again,” Veer said tired.
“Was it Jay?”
“How do you know?” Veer asked surprised.
“I think he was the one who poured mayavi ras in the pool. I know I’ve not believed you before but, I just couldn’t believe he’d do any of this. Part of me really wants to believe that he didn’t but, I don't know anymore. I told you earlier, it feels like everything’s about to crash.”
“Do you remember everything you said earlier, sweetheart?” Veer wanted to know if she said what she said under the effect of the ras or if she meant it.
“I was under the effect of the ras but, I wasn’t lying. I meant every word I said Veer.” He didn’t say anything after and Bani dozed off. They peacefully slept in each other’s embrace that morning. Bani was tired of lying. Veer came into her life as a storm and he completely changed her world. He isn’t what she idealized but he showed her the love she had always craved, the ones she had read about, the unrealistic fictional type of love.
Eventually, in the afternoon, both of them finally covered their sleep and woke up. Veer went to take a shower and get ready first as Bani took some more time to rest. When he came out, she went to change and get ready. Bani came out with her pink chiffon sari and Veer couldn’t take his eyes off of her.
“Veer, stop staring! I’m yours anyways, it’s not like I’m going to go anywhere.”
“We need to talk. Why are you doing this to me?”
Bani was confused, what was he talking about? “What do you mean? I’m not doing anything.”
“Bani, you told me earlier you wanted me to make you mine, then you sleep next to me, and now you tell me I’m yours. I’m not going to be able to deal with any of this if I know that you don’t mean it.” Veer was almost positive that Bani didn’t mean what she was saying. But Bani meant every word, she realized how much he meant to her the last few days. She simply wanted to be his wife.
Bani came closer to Veer and put her arms around his neck, “I mean every word I say, you should know that because you know I don’t lie, especially not to you. I meant it when I said I wanted you to make me yours, I slept near you because I wanted you close, because you're mine.”
Bani had suddenly gotten very protective over Veer. There was this fear of losing him that she couldn’t deal with. It scared her and pushed her over the edge to the point where she realized it would be better to give in rather than keep lying to Veer and herself. She still had to sort Jay out but she was scared, she wanted things to get better between Veer and her but there was so much to figure out with Jay and on top of that, Veer didn’t know she was a naagin. The whole situation was an absolute mess.
“I’m yours, always,” Veer responded. Bani smiled at him and they left the room for the hall where the party was about to start. It was mainly the family and a few outsiders coming. Of course, with outsiders came Mayuri. She buzzed in like a bee suddenly as they were greeting guests and started flirting with Veer in front of Bani.
“Veer, should we dance?”
“Mayuri, don't you have Ponky to dance with?” Bani answered for Veer.
“Bani, it’s just one dance. Chill,” Mayuri responded.
“No, he’s reserved all of his dances for the night with his wife. Don’t bother,” Bani said rudely and Mayuri rolled her eyes before leaving.
Veer was absolutely amused, “Sweetheart, meri teekhi mirchi, I’m all yours. Aaj raat ke liye aur puri zindagi ke liye bhi.”
“I don’t know what her problem is, roz flirt karti hai tujhse. I’m going to kill her one day I swear,” Bani fumed.
“Offo, meri gharwali relax. Bani, usse mera koi rishta tha hi nahi aur aaj tak nahi hai. Dil ka rishta tou bilkul nahi hai so you have nothing to worry about.”
“Hamara rishta kya hai? What’s our relationship Veer?”
“Rooh ka rishta hai Bani, you have nothing to worry about, ever. I will never look at another girl because I have you.”
Bani took a step closer to him, she had chills hearing the love he had for her.
“You owe me a dance sweetheart,” he told her. Bani obliged and they picked up their sticks before going on the dance floor. Lahu munh lag gaya started playing and it felt as if the dance floor cleared up for them. They started slow, moving with the beginning of the song. Then, once the lyrics started flowing, Veer pulled Bani closer, caressed her face with the stick and twirled her before bringing her back in.
Lahu munh lag gaya
Lahu munh lag gaya
Soya tha nas nas mein
Ab ye jag gaya
Aye lahu munh lag gaya
They separated and started to do some more dandiya moves, hitting the stick, twirling and then coming closer.
Labon ke chhoone se
Khwabon ke kone se
Labon ke chhoone se
Khwabon ke kone se
Bachke sab se lab se lab
Ye rag se rag gaya
This went on for most of the song and after that, they went on through the night dancing with each other. Eyes locked and focused on each other, not a care in the world. However, they didn’t realize that it was only a matter of minutes before their lives changed. It was only some time before Bani’s world would come crashing down. She thought she was ready for it, but when a truck hits you, you can never be ready for how much it will actually hurt you and that’s exactly what happened with Bani.
