Okay guys, first of all sorry for replying so late. The maternity gown scene was actually inspired from the show itself. I simply had to include that. And thank you so much for the love and support.

CHAPTER 13

Bella heaved a huge sigh of relief. She looked around at everyone in turn. She had very smug, I told you so' kind of look on her face. Lastly she looked at Mahir. His face was showing a mixture of emotions but the most prominent one was relief.

B: See? I kept on shouting that I am not pregnant but no one wanted to believe me. Everyone was hell bent on proving that I was pregnant. All those symptoms... The strong urges to be sick, heavy headed feeling, dizziness... That was because of acidity. I had not been sleeping properly for last couple of weeks, I was not eating at a fixed time all of this resulted in severe acidity. The mood swings, food craving was because of delayed periods. And my periods got delayed because I was stressed. What Mahir told you all was true. We did spend the night together, but not the way you thought. He himself was feeling guilty and so he told the version wherein he looked like a culprit. But the truth is that, that day I was having very high fever. After walking in the rains for nearly twelve kms, I was exhausted. Exhaustion, coupled with wet clothes resulted in me suffering from fever. I was shivering a lot. Even after covering me with blanket my shivering would not stop. He tried everything he could think of to get down my temperature, but the temperature would not budge. So he made me swallow a tablet meant to bring down fever and when even that did not stop my shivering, he got into the bed with me. He was simply trying to warm me up. He did exactly what you would do Amma when I would suffer from fever in childhood. His intentions were as pure as yours would be. And Mahir? You are going to buy a diamond necklace for me, today itself.

After finishing her little speech Bella went back to her room. Mahir followed her. Bella heard him and turned,

B: What? What are you doing here?

M: Bella, I am so glad that you are not pregnant.

B: Oh really?

M: Bella, please, I am sorry that I embarrassed you in front of everyone.

B: You think I am upset because your actions embarrassed me in front of everyone?

M: Aren't you upset?

B: Of course I am upset; but not because your actions caused embarrassment to me. I am upset because your behaviour almost landed you in jail. The version that you told everyone portrayed you as a villain, it would have spoilt your reputation if ma had called the police that day. Duffer.

M: I was not thinking about my reputation, I was solely concerned about yours.

B: I know.

And she reached and ruffled his hair and pulled him into a tight hug which he returned.

M: So, let's go and tell them that this wedding is not happening?

Bella couldn't help but notice that Mahir was looking slightly disappointed when he said this wedding is not happening. He had turned to go when she held his hand stopped him.

B: Disappointed?

M: What?

B: Disappointed that this wedding is not happening? Be honest.

M: To be honest? A little. I mean I was not thrilled by the circumstances under which we were getting married but, I thought that finally I had a reason to never share you with anyone. I was always worried that when you get married you will have to leave this house and go. We will not spend so much time with each other. Some other random guy will have a claim on your time and attention and I would have to share that with him. I constantly feared that you will forget me and our friendship once you get married. When Amma proposed marriage a part of me was thrilled. I thought, if marriage is the only way to keep Bella with me for the rest of my life then I am ready for it.

B: Oh! Okay...

M: But now none of this matters. You are not pregnant and that was the sole basis for this wedding. So let's go and tell them that we are not getting married.

B: Okay...

They both went downstairs; Mahir was walking ahead so he did not see the huge smile that was spreading on Bella's face nor did he see the affectionate look that Bella was giving him.

He was not aware of what was going on in Bella's mind. He was actually quite broken that he would have to give up Bella to some random stranger after all. But he did not let Bella know what he was feeling. But Bella knew him better than he knew himself. She knew that he was really disappointed; actually she was quite enjoying his disappointment.

When they reached downstairs the atmosphere was quite sad. Bella noticed this and decided that she will pull their leg some more.

B: Why such long faces guys? It's party time!!! I am NOT pregnant. Why is no one happy? Amma! Appa! You should be so happy. Your daughter did not do anything wrong. Rehan put on some music! Let's dance!!!

She starts dancing;

B: Aare! Why is no one joining ma? Mahir? Come on!!

Maahir reluctantly went and joined her. Rehan and Kuhu soon followed. Soon all the four of them were dancing like there was no tomorrow. Seeing Bella so happy even Amma, Appa and Sumi ma joined them. Everyone danced for a while; when finally they became too tired, everyone sat down.

Sumi ma: Well, I guess I should call and tell Andy and Ma that wedding is not happening.

B: Wait Sumi ma! Who said anything about wedding not happening? I simply said that I am not pregnant. I never said that the wedding is cancelled.

Amma: Wait! What did you say?

Appa: What do you mean?

B: I mean this wedding is still very much on the cards. I will marry Mahir.

Sumi ma: Really?

B: Unless of course Mahir doesn't wish to marry me. Mahir?

M: What? No! I mean yes. I want to marry Bella.

And he goes and hugs her very tightly. Sumi ma clears her throat and they jump apart.

Amma: Bella how come you took this decision so suddenly?

B: Amma stop questioning and just be happy. Please. I will just tell you this; I am happy with this decision. This is what you wanted right? My wedding? So here it is. Okay, so goodbye everyone. Me and Mahir are going out. He owes me a necklace.

Sumi ma: Girl and boy are not supposed to meet before marriage.

B: Ma, please! And by the way let's postpone the wedding by a week. Please? I want to enjoy the so called courtship period with Mahir.

R: So you want to get engaged as planned but just postpone the wedding by at least a week?

B: Yes.

Appa: Then how can we let our daughter go all alone with you today? You are neither her husband nor her fianc.

M: Today, I am her boyfriend. So Appa, can I please take your daughter out on a date?

Appa: Yes you can.

Amma: But get her home before seven. Not a minute late. Got it?

M: Yes Amma.

BeHir went and touched everyone's feet and hugged Rehan and Kuhu. After having breakfast, they both went out. They first went to their family jeweller's place and selected a necklace for Bella. After having placed the order they left the shop. Once they were in their car; Bella turned to Mahir

B: So you are my boyfriend today?

M: Yes and you are my girlfriend.

B: So Mr. Boyfriend where are you taking me today?

M: Actually I did not get a lot of time to plan our first date so let's wing it as we go?

B: Not a bad idea. Let's go somewhere quiet.

M: As you wish madam. We have only one day to be boyfriend and girlfriend. So let's enjoy it. Waise, you were against this marriage till last night, the how come you suddenly agreed?

B: Initially yes, I was against this marriage. But then when Sumi ma took me to my room after finding out about my so called pregnancy, I tried to convince her, but to no avail. I couldn't sleep for a long time that night. All kinds of thought were flying through my mind. The one that stuck was when Sumi ma told me that I will not always be around to protect you, I had very confidently told her we will be there for each other no matter what. But then I remembered what you had said the other day. You had asked me, how will I guide you if I married someone and went away from this house? I badly wanted to be there for you in all the phases of your life. Then I remembered the day when we went to meet Mayur and Tanya. I remembered feeling something like dread when we left from the office. I was scared that you will like Tanya and then she will take my place in your life. I couldn't imagine sharing you with anyone. That's when I realised that this was the perfect opportunity to keep my friend forever.

M: And what about when you told me that you will ensure that this wedding will never happen.

B: Mahir, I did not want to marry you like it was some kind of punishment meted out to us for committing some mistake. That is what our marriage would have been had I never managed to convince them that I was not pregnant. I knew I wanted to go through with this wedding, but I wanted to give you a fair chance to refuse. I did not want you to marry me out of guilt.

M: So you think we will be good husband and wife?

B: Don't know. But I do know this; we will be very good partners. We understand each other better than anyone else. I know that no one will love me as much or as selflessly as you do. And neither will I be able to love anyone other than you.

M: Bella, that's true. You know this marriage has an added benefit for me? I now get to keep my best advisor, my guiding star all to myself.

B: This is an advantageous marriage for me too;

1) I get to keep my best friend with me for life. I don't have to explain my friendship to anyone.

2) I don't have to leave my parents and my brother. Ever.

3) I am not going into a family of total strangers where my only support would have been my husband. I don't have to accept any new relations in my life.

4) I will not fulfil anyone's expectations because it is my duty. I will fulfil everyone's expectations because want to.

5) Sumi ma will never taunt like other mother-in-laws supposedly do. Didn't your mother teach you anything? That's because she is my mother and has helped in raising me.

6) And the best part, I will never have to change myself. Yaaay...

M: Wow! That's quite a lot of advantages. And you what the best part is?

B: What did I miss?

M: We will never have do one thing that we hated about couples. PDA. Cutesy pet names. Shona, babu, darling...

B: Yes! We are friends not lovers. So that aspect of marriage will never hinder us.

M: We love each other, but not in that way.

B: YES!!!!

They drove away singing Yeh Dosti Hum Nahi Todenge.
