Mumbai, June 29 (IANS) Composer-singer Himesh Reshammiya has dedicated his first film "Aap Kaa Surroor", releasing Friday, to his mother and says it is a son's gift to the most important woman in his life.

He is releasing the film on his mother's birthday.

"That's right. June 29 is my mother's birthday. I've timed the release of 'Aap Kaa Surroor' to coincide with my mother's birthday. It's a son's gift to the most important woman in his life. That's why I don't mind if two other big films are being released. My film has my mother's blessings," Himesh told IANS.

Anil Sharma's "Apne" starring the three Deols - Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby - and Mohit Suri's "Awarapan" are releasing with Himesh's debut vehicle.

A lot has been written and said about Himesh's relationship with his composer father Vipin Reshammiya. In fact, recently the senior Reshammiya came on television to share screen space with his son on Zee TV's talent contest "Sa Re Ga Ma Pa". For the first time in public, Himesh broke down and wept like a baby.

"Everything I know about music I have learnt from my dad. Today I'm living out his dreams. My success is for him more than for myself."

What about this rare show of emotion in public?

"In my movie debut 'Aap Kaa Surroor', I not only cry, I also laugh. People seem to think I'm not capable of showing emotions in public. It's nothing like that. I do cry and I do express emotions. And the film will prove it. I'm specially emotional about my parents."

RLD men burn Himesh's effigy, try to disrupt film screening
Varanasi, June. 29 (PTI): Rashtriya Lok Dal workers today tried to disrupt the screening of singer-cum-actor Himesh Reshammiya's film 'Aap Ka Suroor' at a theatre here, accusing him of hurting the religious sentiments of the minority community by visiting the Ajmer dargah wearing a burqa.

The RLD activists led by one Iqbal Ahmad congregated at the Saajan theatre and burnt the effigy of Reshammiya and posters of the film, shouting slogans against him.

The protestors also tried to disrupt the screening of the film before a police team rushed to the spot and persuaded the agitators to call off their stir.

Reshammiya had visited the dargah of Sufi saint Khawja Moinuddhin Chishti in Ajmer earlier this week wearing a burqa to hide his identity and later apologised for the same after objections were raised by some people.

The 'A' list: Why 'Aap ka Suroor' will be the ace in the pack
After Hours Correspondent
Thursday, June 28, 2007 19:35 IST

'Awaarapan', 'Apne' and 'Aap ka Suroor'— which will be the ace in the pack?

'Aap ka Suroor' is the hottest film

The Deols' 'Apne', Emraan Hashmi's 'Awaarapan' and Himesh Reshammiya's 'Aap ka Suroor'—it's 'three much' of a choice for audiences this week.

Read latest news at DNA
'Apne' is a complete family film. With the three Deols coming together, the movie will be a major attraction for their fans. But with the family positioning, it might lose out amongst the youth.

'Awarapan' doesn't seem that promising. The only known face in it is that of Emraan Hashmi. Normally, the music of any Bhatt movie always catches up. But that doesn't seem to be the case here.

'Aap ka Suroor' is undoubtedly the hottest film of the year. The promotion has been extremely aggressive and hard-hitting. The hype created, especially on television, hasn't been hitherto seen. Also, in terms of advance booking, 'Aap ka Suroor' is far ahead than any of the two movies releasing with it. —Amod Mehra, trade analyst

All three movies belong to different genres. 'Apne' is a movie soaked with emotions and promises a brilliant performance by Dharmendra.

'Awaarapan' on the other hand, could give Emraan Hashmi's career a new lease. The film is actually meant to white wash his earlier mistakes. It could be an eye opener for people who think Emraan to be a bad actor.

'Aap ka Suroor' has a good opening and we do have a reason to watch it—simply to see how Himesh acts! —Taran Adarsh, Trade Guide

After burqa row, Himesh film screening disrupted
30 Jun, 2007 l 0012 hrs ISTlTIMES NEWS NETWORK

AJMER: When Bollywood sensation, singer-composer Himesh Reshammiya, entered the dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti in a burqa on Wednesday, many people thought it was a publicity stunt for his film, Aap Ka Suroor , that released on Friday. But, far from increasing his popularity, Reshammiya's actions seem to have boomeranged.

Angry activists of the National Students Union of India (NSUI), affiliated to Congress, disrupted the screening of the film in a cinema hall in Ajmer on Friday.

The NSUI activists also forced the closure of the cinema hall and asked viewers who had turned up for the first show to leave. NSUI district president Naurat Gurjar said demonstrations against the singer were also held.

Later, they burnt posters and cutouts of the film shouting slogans against Reshammiya. Gurjar said men wearing burqa was unacceptable as it hurt the religious sentiments of people.

Moreover, he noted, the trend of men in burqas as disguise was dangerous as the dress could conceal criminals and terrorists as well.

In another development, the dargah committee, which looks after the shrine's administration, and the Anjuman, which is the elected body of representatives of khadims (servers), have also voiced their displeasure and served a notice on Qutubuddin Saki (a khadim) - who helped Reshammiya to pay obeisance - asking for a written explanation.

Saki was also reprimanded by the Anjuman. Nazim of the dargah Ahmed Raza has said the shrine administration must be informed beforehand about the visit of a VIP or celebrity so that adequate security could be arranged.

Aap Kaa Surroor — The Moviee
The Real Luv Story

Direction: Prashant Chadha
Cast: Himesh Reshammiya, Hansika Motwani, Mallika Sherawat
Rating: *1/2

Read latest news at DNA
Let's get two things out of the way. Himesh Reshammiya is no actor. And the music of the film is no big deal.

Having given himself the chance to act in a feature, one wonders why Himesh didn't pay any attention to the fact that the storyline should at least be interesting if not convincing—never mind if it's real or not. What you get here is the usual tale—boy loves girl but can't tell her, boy is falsely accused of murder and girl almost married off to another man.

Himesh plays himself, a world class singer HR, who, on a concert tour in Germany has two things happen to him. He meets and falls in love with his event manager Riya (Hansika Motwani), who does absolutely no event managing post meeting him. Secondly, he is accused of murdering a TV reporter who was doing a sting operation on him.

For the rest of the film then he spends his time either trying to convince Riya's father (Sachin Khedekar) that he is the right guy for his daughter or he tries to find the actual murderer.

There are some rather hilarious scenes on the way, one in which his business manager tells him that if his nose is cut (like in naak katjayegi) how would he sing and another when on the run from the police, he is suddenly assisted by three Mumbai rickshawallahs, who run amuck amongst the dumbfounded German policemen.

If only the rest of the film had been in the same vein, light and funny. Instead it gets all serious and heavy and even Mallika Sherawat's 'Mehbooba mehbooba' number, which comes after the film is over, can't save it.

On our second Bollywood review is finally the film everyone and their mother have been waiting for. It's a unique moment in the history of world cinema.

The monument is called Aap Kaa Surroor-The Movie, The Real Luv Story or some such. It could have just been called Himesh Reshammiya, The Fully Intended Miscarriage Of A Movie Star.

Most of us knew what to expect here of course. But you know what, my two-word review still is: NO WAY.

And if it's really a true story as claimed in the poster, then Himesh bhai, our country singer is actually the world's greatest rock star. He flies a private jet. He drives in the middle of a huge limo convoy. The goras of Germany just can't get enough of him, neither can Mallika Sherawat.

If the story is true again, Himesh bhai is jailed for murdering a reporter who did a television sting operation on him. It's a conspiracy. But never mind all that. Never mind even the Bombay auto-rickshaws chasing cars in Europe. Never mind other causes with no effects and effects with no causes. Never mind the supposed love story.

The true conspiracy in this film is actually directed against Himesh Reshammiya, the actor. Hear his spoken voice that's dubbed to sound a vague cross between a cow's moo and a horse's nay. Listen to him sing the Gayatri Mantra and the track Darde Dil Darde Jigar solo over a guitar.

Watch him awkwardly gesture throughout, and smile once. You'll be convinced the makers of this movie don't like him too much. This is the lamest joke played on one man for this long. I am told the filmmakers have even considered a sequel to Aap Kaa Surroor, if this one does well.

Mmmm… that was our heart-felt 2-second silence on that possibility. Really, not fair that a whole nation must laugh on a poor soul with a baseball cap.

I just watched the film, and I am still not sure if I actually watched it. Already, it seems a blurry figment of my own nightmare. When I recover, I'll tell you more.

Movie Review: 'Aap Ka Surroor'
by Debtaru De

A cap, a nasal twang, a microphone held perpendicular to his nose, chartbusting songs, and a frozen expression – You have to be a no-TV-no-Bollywood person to not known whom we are talking about!

After ruling the music charts for a record period of time, Himesh Reshammiya is now back. But this time, in front of the camera for 'Aap Ka Suroor', his maiden venture as an actor.

The film is, of course, named after the Singer's best selling music-album 'Aap Ka Suroor'. It had a never-ending promo (close to five minutes!) when it was launched last year.

With weeks left for its release, the capped wonder is her with an abbreviated promo for his film. 'Aap Ka Suroor': The Moviee, with its tagline "A Real Life Story", is touted as the music man's own tale of unrequited love.

It is set predominantly in Germany. The promo opens with a shot of a window overlooking German high-rises and heritage buildings.

A cap rests on a windowsill – potent image as the Reshammiya rumour mill has assured us that the secret behind The Cap will be revealed in the film.

Cut to a shot of the singer-turned-actor in all-white – as opposed to all black – on the streets of Germany breaking into 'Tere Bin' in trademark nasal twang.

The leading lady of the film, debutant Riyaa (also in Simi Gerewal white) is then introduced.

In between, there is also a shot of couple of choppers hovering in mid-air. The promo ends with Himesh doing a Salman – bare-bodied, surrounded by thousands of screaming fans, singing one his popular tracks.

The man entrusted with the task of adapting Himesh's life to celluloid is Prashant Chadha, who has directed every music video of the singer.

Himesh the producer has pulled out all stops – he airlifted a rickshaw all the way from India to Germany! With Himesh as music director, 'Aap Ka Suroor' is sure to rock the music charts; the box office could be a different ball game.

The film also has the unique distinction of having tow endings – a happy one and a tragic one. The icing on the cake: 'Aap Ka Suroor' will have bare-all babe Mallika Sherawat in a negative character for the in her career.

Moreover, the buzz is that she is looking really hot. 'Aap Ka Suroor' marks the move of yet another singer to the silver screen. Will Himesh be able to do what arch rival Sonu Nigam could not?

He tells his own story: Ever wondered why Himesh's music videos often show him as a sad lover whom his woman because of some misunderstanding leaves, and ever wondered why Himesh looks so glum all the time.

The answers will be given in Himesh's first and forthcoming movie 'Aap Ka Suroor'. Sources saying that the movie's story is roughly based on Himesh's own life and his romantic relationship with a girl

There has been secrecy surrounding the leading lady of Himesh's first film as an actor 'Aap Ka Suroor'. So far, the heroine was being promoted as a newcomer named Ria.

Now, it is learnt that the girl is none other than Hansika Motwani, the child artiste who was seen in a TV serial and few films just a few years back. In a short span of 3 years Hansika has evolved from a child artiste to a grown-up girl.

No Kiss: There is no kiss between Himesh Reshammiya and Mallika Sherawat in the film. It is not because Mallika had any objection to kissing him, but because the film's story does not allow for such a scene.

Also learnt that Mallika has charged a whopping fee for her role in the film. Responding to this, Himesh says Mallika has been paid what she deserves. However, he refused to disclose the amount.

Mallika is getting more noticed than Himesh's heroine Hansika Motwani in 'Aap Ka Suroor'. The reason is Mallika's role of a temptress and her song 'Mehbooba Mehbooba' in the film.

Wrong Chord: Himesh was in trouble… again! This time is an Islamic Organization that has taken offence to the words "assalaam vaalekum", a song in his debut film 'Aap Ka Suroor: The Moviee'.

A section has objected to the sacred words being used in "places of pleasure" like the disc. The words "Dua karoon sajda karoon yehi main kahoon assalaam vaalekum" are sung by his character at a music concert.

Mallika's raunchy dance: The highlight of the movie will be the cult song "Mehbooba Mehbooba" that will Mallika doing a cabaret act like Helen in Ramesh Sippy's movie 'Sholay'. The song will be shot in a very stylish way.

The initial portion of the song will show Mallika dancing against the backdrop of tents (like Helen's song). For this portion, designer Ashley Rebello has designed a gypsy skirt (with frills) and a tiny, colorful blouse for Mallika.

The later portion of the song will be shot in a lavish set-up depicting the interiors of a casino. For this portion, Rebello is designing a translucent black gown for Mallika. Predicted Ratings: 5/10
