Himesh attack
On the menu today are three 'Aces': Apne, Awarapan and Aap Kaa Surroor. Here's presenting a preview of what is in store for you
Piyush Roy
He's a music director, a crooner of nasal gems (ahem!) and music industry's desi Style Bhai. (Just for the record, he doesn't wear any designer label but sports a look designed by Rupa, the sister of Aap Kaa Surroor director Prashant Chadha) But can he act? We'll know today when finally the Himesh Reshammiya fever will be unleashed on Bollywood big screen. About Aap Kaa Surroor, Reshammiya says, "Contrary to popular rumours it's not my story but it's a thriller revolving around a guy called HR who's framed in a sting operation in a foreign country. But it will reveal to all my fans and viewers why I am always so intense and never laugh"

It will also reveal his "phenomenal" pairing with Mallika Sherawat, who is the film's negative lead "with a full fledged 35 minute role for which she wasn't paid Rs 1.5 crore," he says. The Making of Himesh Reshammiya Meanwhile here's your guide to get the HR look: He is superstitious enough to not reveal the number of his caps, jackets, balis and beads. "My look is all courtesy Rupa, who gave me this get-up before Aashiq Banaya Apne and it has stayed on with me ever since," says Reshammiya. Caps - I have never really bothered to count the number of them though my favourite is the red cap that I sport in the Aas salam-a-lekum song. In the film for the first time you will see me remove the cap for a few seconds in the song Mehbooba o mehbooba . Hair - Yes I was bald at one point of time but that's nothing to do with my sporting a cap all the time. Now I have had a hair transplant done and it's hardly a big thing. The thinning areas were covered in just a matter of four hours. Beard - My stubble too is part of the signature Himesh look but it's not that I don't shave. Then I would have had a six-feet long beard in no time as my beard grows really fast. I trim it twice a week. Earrings - It's the third major component of Rupa's initially conceived look along with the cap, beard and the jacket but I can't reveal the number of earrings because of superstitious reasons. Jacket - I guess all colours suit me though denims are a personal favourite. The nasal voice - I have gone hoarse telling all through the last one year that I don't have a nasal but a high-pitched voice. But the media and the critics have been going on and on about it. So much so that now even I have accepted that chalo I have a nasal voice, so what? PS: For the film, the microphone has been replaced by the gun .

"Aaj ek maa ka janmdin hein aur aaj hi ek abhineta ka janmdin bhi hein," says a spirited Himesh Reshammiya.

Coinciding his acting debut with his mother's birthday, Himesh is anxious yet excited about the D-Day. His Bollywood flick Aap Kaa Surroor - The Real Luv Story , directed by Prashant Chadha and produced by Vijay Taneja, hits the screens worldwide on Friday.

The last few months have been a roller coaster ride for this singer as he steadily rose in his celebrity status. While critics said that his chart-busters are similar to the point of being indistinguishable, fans proved otherwise as each of his compositions were big hits.

Himesh Reshammiya's voice, once cited as unique, has been the target of criticism as many find his voice to be nasal. Rising above all of this, Himesh finally went ahead with his Bollywood dream of being an actor.

SPOTTED:

Himesh was first noticed in Bollywood for his work in the film Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya by actor Salman Khan. Later, Himesh also composed music for several Sallu-starrers.

Himesh has developed his own unique style of composition, based on pop and techno beats, with a lot of English words thrown in.

His most popular albums so far have been Tere Naam and Aashiq Banaya Aapne . Following Aashiq Banaya Aapne , he scored music for a bunch of Emraan Hashmi films like Aksar, Dil Diya Hai and the most recent Good Boy, Bad Boy. Jhalak Dikhlaja and Soniye from Aksar have been two of his biggest hits.

STYLE CHECK:

Creating waves with 36 everlasting hits in a span of just one year, Himesh realised the lack of facilities and opportunities for any music lover in the nation.

Hence, Future Group, the force behind successful retail brands and formats like Pantaloons, Central, Big Bazaar and Himesh Reshammiya have joined hands to co-create a brand called M3, acronym for Mega Music Movement.

This brand and movement will be supported through a host of initiatives. First among these is the HR School of Music.

A hi-tech music school for amateurs, aspiring professionals and the gifted. Spread over 25,000 sq ft, eight schools are planned over four metros in the first phase.

FASHION BRANDS:

The second initiative is to give expression to music through the creation of a fashion label branded M3 retailed at Big Bazaar. The label will be designed along four lines Suroor, Jhalak, Aashiq and Jhoom .

"These are emotions that a young India relates with," says Himesh. Starring opposite Hannsika Motwani as his heroine, Himesh Reshammiya intends to live up to the image of a rockstar.

"The intensity in my acting is my USP. People need to give me chance to prove my mettle as an actor. Today is my turn and I would never let down fans who finally 'made' me," signs off Himesh.

Himesh Reshammiya ditches his cap, wears a Burqa

The man whose hate community membership in Orkut is outnumbered only by soap queen Ekta Kapoors did finally take off his cap. And no, it wasn't for a shower. That has to wait.
For now he decided that he has a million fans ready to swarm him on his visit to a dargah. So he did what his equivalent, Michael 'my nose is like a butterfly' Jackson, once did in the Middle East - wear a burqa. Nothing wrong with it, except that the 36,500 members of the Himesh Hate Club and the general public had a good laugh at his photos which appeared in almost all the leading news papers the next day. On top of it he had to issue an apology for 'disrespecting the burqa'.

I think the next time he goes to a surgeon for a nose job (to improve his voice that is), he should try a better disguise like the one shown here. I'm sure people wouldn't notice.

Mallika singing Himesh's praises!

------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------
Abid, Bollywood Trade News Network

Mallika Sherawat and hotshot music composer, Himesh Reshammiya, have formed a mutual admiration society, it seems. The bearded music director-cum-singer-turned-actor is ever so grateful that the sexy actress agreed to work in AAP KAA SURROOR, his first film as a hero.

In fact, Himesh looses no opportunity to express his happiness about the fact that Mallika's name adorns the cast list of AAP KAA SURROOR.

On her part, Mallika Sherawat openly declares that she is the biggest fan of Himesh Reshammiya's music, as a smile breaks on Himesh's serious lips.

Meet all nervous actor Himesh
By Subhash K Jha

A lot has been written and said about Himesh Reshammiya's relationship with his composer-father Vipin Reshammiya. In fact recently the senior Reshammiya came on television to share screen space with Himesh on the talent contest Sa Re Ga Ma Pa.

For the first time in public Himesh broke down and wept like a baby. "Everything I know about music I learnt from my dad. Today I'm living out his dreams. My success is for him more than for myself."

What about this rare show of emotion in public?

Himesh laughs, "In my movie debut Aap Ka Surroor I don't only cry, I also laugh. People seem to think I'm incapable of showing emotions in public. It's nothing like that. I do hurt,I do cry and I do express emotions. And the film will prove it. I'm specially emotional about my parents,"

In fact Aap Ka Surroor is being released on Himesh's mother's birthday.

"That's right. June 29 is my mother's birthday. And my acting debut is also on the same date. I've timed the release of Aap Ka Surroor to coincide with my mother's birthday. It's a son's gift to the most important woman in his life. That's why I don't mind if two other big films are being released. My film has my mother's blessings."

Bollywood Wishes Himesh Good Luck
Thursday 28th of June 2007 Bollywood's celebrated singer Himesh Reshammiya makes his acting debut Friday with 'Aap Ka Surroor'. The industry wishes him good luck ahead of the film's release:

Riteish Deshmukh: 'I'm a big Himesh fan. I've already booked the tickets for my friends and me for his film. I'm really looking forward to his film. I wish him all the best.'

Vipul Shah: 'For Himesh to be accepted as an actor, is a big challenge. But I also know Himesh has risen from the ranks and so he knows what it takes to be successful. He's a clever man and a canny musician. I'm sure he has covered all bases before becoming an actor. I wish him all luck.'

Suniel Shetty: ' 'Aap Ka Surroor' is going to be a massive hit ... a blockbuster. Nothing can stop Himesh. His critics can say that he sings through his ear, nose or throat but it makes no difference. Audiences adore him. I've seen how they react to Himesh abroad.

'The man is a phenomenon and everyone is just waiting to watch him on screen. Himesh will be a big success as an actor. He's hardworking and he has an attitude, a deadly combination. I'm a big big fan of him and I wish him all the best.'

Javed Akhtar: 'My best wishes are with him.'

Kangana Ranaut: 'Though I haven't seen him as an actor, I've seen what he can do as a singer and a composer. Himesh is a rock star. I want him to be the first successful singer turned actor since Kishore Kumar.'

Vikram Bhatt: 'The film's music is very good. The publicity is fantastic. It will begin very well and that's half the battle won. As an actor it's premature to comment on Himesh. It will all depend on how his ability as a musician is showcased. I believe he plays a musician. That's home turf for Himesh, hence not tough at all.'

Suneel Darshan: 'Looking at the fantastic advance booking for 'Aap Ka Surroor'. At the single-screen theatres, the film appears to have succeeded in the first round. Himesh's film comes on the same Friday as a huge multi-starrer ('Apne') and a branded product of a media favourite (Emraan Hashmi's 'Awarapan'). Himesh's extraordinary advance booking is an eye-opener.'

Pritam Chakraborty: 'I sincerely wish him all the best. I hope his film does well because he has worked really hard on it. Though it may not open that well in the multiplexes, it will definitely get a roaring opening in the single screens.

'But my prayers are with 'Awarapan', which opens with Himesh's film. Not only because I'm associated with it, but also because director Mohit Suri has done a fantastic job.'

Himesh Reshammiya apologises
New Delhi, June 28 (AP): Singer-turned-actor Himesh Reshammiya apologised for offending religious sentiments after visiting a Muslim Sufi shrine disguised in a burqa, a news report said on Thursday.

''If I have committed a mistake, I apologise for it,'' he told reporters outside a shrine dedicated to a mystic Islamic Sufi saint in Rajasthan.

Reshammiya, who is a Hindu, had gone to the shrine of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti on Tuesday to seek blessings for his debut feature film ''Aapka Suroor,''. But huge crowds gathered in front of the shrine to watch him and he wasn't able to enter the shrine, the reportsaid.

He returned later dressed in a burqa.

Hundreds of people of all faiths visit the shrine in the city of Ajmer everyday.

The Anjuman Committee that runs the shrine said that Reshammiya's apology had been accepted.

Last year Bollywood actor Katrina Kaif created a controversy when she was photographed visiting the shrine dressed in a knee-length skirt.

Himesh makes up with Boney Kapoor

------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------
Abid, Bollywood Trade News Network

The cold war between producer Boney Kapoor and music director Himesh Reshammiya seems to be over. Boney was not happy with Himesh, as he had gone ahead and picturised 'Tanhaiyaan', a song that he had recorded for Boney's MILENGE MILENGE, for his own film, AAP KAA SURROOR.

Since MILENGE MILENGE has been long in the making, Himesh assumed that Boney would not use the 'Tanhaiyaan' song. When AAP KAA SURROOR commenced, the composer-singer and debut-making actor felt that 'Tanhaiyaan' suited a particular situation in his film. Not just that, Himesh went ahead and got it picturised. But he did not take Boney into confidence. Obviously, Boney was livid. Reportedly, Boney took up the matter with T-Series, which holds the audio rights for AAP KAA SURROOR. He even contemplated going to court, in a bid to get justice.

However, Himesh came around and apologized to Boney Kapoor. Quite graciously, the producer was quick to forgive and forget. And so, 'Tanhaiyaan' will now be seen in AAP KAA SURROOR, releasing tomorrow. Himesh has even got expensive ads published in renowned trade magazines, thanking Boney for his generosity

Abhijeet lashes out
Thursday, June 28, 2007 11:43:44 am

Singer Abhijeet has lashed out at rival talent hunt shows, judges and other personalities of the Bollywood music industry
Singer Abhijeet doesn't seem thrilled with the idea of reality checks. And this phase isn't restricted to him alone with his new past time being lashing out at others.

With his new found fame as talent contest judge, Abhijeet seems to think it's the perfect platform to impart wisdom on the working of the rival talent shows.

"Some contestants think they can get away by doing mimicry. They are making fun of the judges and indirectly abusing the judges. So that is not a talent," he said.

Thanks to the drama involved in such talent shows, Abhijeet manages to get his share of controversy too. The latest buzz is that he has been sued by Bappi Lahiri for his caustic remarks. But that's not really stopping him either.

News is that music director Bappi Lahiri is planning to sue Abhijeet for his insulting remarks
"I don't want to take the name of people, who've destroyed the reputation of the music industry. Those who lift other people's tunes should be put behind bars," Abhijeet said.

His tirade of words doesn't spare the other two judges of a rival show - Ismail Darbar, who believes that singers shouldn't be judges, and Himesh Reshammiya.

"What authority does anyone who has done only two films have?" he questions. "They don't even have experience of hundred or two hundred recordings. They should not even be permitted to judge any talent hunt or contest."

Abhijeet is a self-promoted one man army out to combat the evils of the industry, as he puts it. But considering that his career is not really flying high as well, we wonder if all that bitterness is simply a result of pent up frustrations.
