Panchamda RULED the 70s and 80s. Some of the most melodious songs from this era came from his baton.

There was a period in time (in my teens) when I couldn't look beyond his music. He was a genius, experimenting with different sounds and not afraid to break out of the mold. Though he's remembered for his Westernized tunes, the songs with strong Indian folk and classical roots that he composed have endured through the decades.

Some of his most memorable soundtracks for me are: Amar Prem, Ijaazat, & Ghar. There are several others but these have a permanent place in my go-to playlist.

This song has a special significance for me.

Hard to choose only 3 songs from a formidable repertoire but posting this one because it's Rafi + Shammi, an unbeatable combination and RDB's soulful music. Rafi didn't sing too many songs for Pancham - Kishore was always his preferred singer - but some of the songs they did together, like this one, have my heart.

@Bold: Right? There is something so intricate about the tune. And the stanzas are so differently arranged compared to the mukhda. Raf begins it at a different pitch too. This song is difficult to sing! Adding to that what's happening on screen and what happened irl (Shammi had just lost Geeta and this was his first day back at the shoot), makes this song all the more poignant.

PS: I like Wadiyan mera daman too but if I had to pick one Rafi-RDB song, it would be Tumne mujhe dekha.

Yes, Music & singing, Rafi ka jadoo, starting normal, slow hoti hai, but stanzas alag hee level pe le jaate hain, unki last line me echo ne kammal kar diya. simply outstanding.

Rafi-Pancham ke kai hit songs hain, Kya hua tera Vaada, Hum kisi se kam nhi etc, but Tumne mujhe dekha is best.

That's why I hate remix, OG song ko barbaad kar dete hain. Mukesh ne 'Kahin karti hogi', kya shandaar gaaya hai, feelings ke sath. 'Suhani Chandni Raaten; another good Mukesh-Pancham song, ye typical Mukesh song hai, lagta hee nhi ki Pancham ne compose kiya hai.

Bade Achhe Lagte hain me ek thahrao hai, a simple but difficult song, Pancham ne jyada instrument nhi use kiye, Amit Kumar ne bahut saralta se gaaya, isiliye it feels good.
